It was safe to say that Percy did not like Atlantis, he had been there a few times in his life and the place was definitely not growing on him, maybe it was all the people who felt the constant need to bow and call him "My Lord" or the hostile half-sibling who lived there. He had to give Triton credit though, his only other immortal siblings he had met was Charybdis, who had tried to make him a 13 year-old-sized lunch and the other had tried to kill him with Poison, Kymopoleia. Regardless of all these facts Percy was thankful to be in a bed, even if they were sort of redundant underwater.
He recognised the room he was in though; it was the guest room in the family wing of the Atlantean palace. He had woken up here after being tossed off the Princess Andromeda the day that Beckendorf died, seeing as a lot of his stuff was still here from the last time he visited he assumed that the room could now be considered his. Percy sat up in the bed and looked around the room, he reflected on the conversation who he had with the stranger, who he still did not know the name of. What he pondered on most though was the information about Gaia that he was told. He still wanted to reject what he had been told and believe that Gaia was just as evil as he had experienced her to be, but the woman he met on the beach was a completely different person, he knew sooner or later he would have to reveal this information and he was not looking forward to the reaction.
Just as the thought crossed his mind the door to the room swung open with a thud and two women entered, also outside the door were two mermen guards holding tridents, who closed the door behind them. Upon closer inspection of the women he recognised one but not the other. The one he recognised had white skin, glowing hair and a pretty face, his godly half-sister Kymopoleia. The other was similar in face but had long brown hair and a more tanned complexion, looking more like a Mediterranean supermodel. Kym sauntered over to him and stood at the end of his bed, hands placed firmly on her hips, while the other walked over to where his bedside table was and perched on his bed looking intently at him.
"Umm… hello Kym, you look… smaller than last time." Percy managed, struggling to find the right words. Settling on smaller due to her regular human height.
"Hmmmm… and you look less poisoned." The goddess replied, ever the tactful wordsmith. Percy thought the comment was fair enough though. He stared at her for a while and she returned the gaze with increased intensity.
Meanwhile, the woman next to him was beaming down at him and looking all over his face, before placing her hands on his cheeks and giving them a small squeeze while giggling. It was safe to say Percy found her behaviour profoundly odd. She was just getting to opening his lips and inspecting his teeth before he finally pulled away and gave her a confused look.
"Leave him alone Rhodes, he's still recovering." Kym admonished to the lady next to him. Rhodes, that sounded familiar to Percy, he had heard of the Greek island near Turkey, but this lady was clearly not an island.
"Oh, come off it Kym, I'm just excited to see my new baby brother. I have heard so much about you Percy, you're like the stuff of legend around here, Triton is sooooooo jealous." The woman, supposedly his sister, replied. She turned her head from Kym back to him, changing her pout back to a smile. Percy shifted up into a better position. "It's been so long since Theseus died." She said, a sad expression briefly showing itself on her face before once again returning to her regular happy one.
"Baby brother?" Percy questioned. Kym smiled and Rhodes giggled.
"Yeah, you're what... 17? That's practically brand new." She beamed at him, before going in with a finger to boop his nose. Percy's face during the course of the conversation had permanently been twisted in confusion and this was not doing anything to alleviate it. She eventually shifted herself, so she was next to him in the bed and leaning up against the headboard. That is when it clicked for Percy.
"Ohhhh, Rhodes the island, like you are literally the island?" Percy said, questioning himself. Annabeth would know. Annabeth… He was interrupted before he could fall into a hole in his own mind.
"Eeeep, he remembers me! Hear that Kym!" Rhodes let out gleefully. She lurched towards him and wrapped her arms around him, gripping him in a tight hug, almost rivalling Tyson. Eventually she let go and resumed her position on the side of his bed. Kymopoleia just brushed off her antics, clearly used to them.
Turning his attention to his other sister, Percy had a few questions "So I guess you and dad made up?" He inquired of Kym. She gave a curt nod and even flash a brief smile. "That's good."
Speaking of the man himself, the doors swung open once again and Poseidon stepped through, unliked the last time he saw him on the battlefield, he was in his Hawaiian shirt and shorts once more. "Lord Poseidon, god of the seas!" the guard called from behind him. This made Poseidon turn around and face the merman.
"Not in the family wing, Garry, you'll wake Amphitrite again." He scolded the merman who quickly silenced himself at the threat of a cranky queen of the seas. Poseidon made his way over to the bed, he now had three members of his family surrounding him. He mumbled under his breath, "for fucks sake Garry." He then turned his attention to Percy.
"Percy, how are you? how do you feel? does anything hurt? What happened? Where were you? Why were you there?..." Percy interrupted him at that point.
"I'm fine dad, I was just… umm… talking to Kym and Rhodes. I didn't realise I had another godly sibling." The son of Poseidon shifted in his bed once again, uncomfortable at the three pairs of eyes on him. "How did I get here dad?" Poseidon lit up at this.
"Oh! Arion found you and then contacted me, that Hazel girl helped too." Percy smiled; he would have to thank her later. "After that I brought you here, you have been asleep for some time my boy." This threw Percy a bit.
"How long?" Percy asked his father.
"Three and a half weeks." Percy bolted up and took some deep breaths. "At first we thought you wouldn't wake up. You gave us a right fright." The lord of the sea told his son. Three weeks, the realisation hit him, Annabeth's funeral, Jason's, and Leo's, he had missed them all. He didn't have a chance to say goodbye. Tears started to well up in his eye, letting one or two fall before wiping his eyes. At the sight, Kymopoleia's face softened. Poseidon and Rhodes held sombre looks on their faces for a while too. They left Percy to his thoughts for a while, the whole room remained silent for a few moments before Poseidon restarted the conversation.
"Percy, I'm very sorry about your friends, but there is something I have to tell you… it's going to be a big shock so just prepare yourself a bit." Percy ignored this and started talking, knowing whatever Poseidon was about to say wasn't nearly as important as the information he had recently received.
"They died for nothing…" Percy started, tears falling again. "They all died to stop Gaia, to stop the giants, and it was for nothing, Gaia isn't gone, I didn't kill her." Surprise dawned over the faces of the three other occupants of the room.
"What do you mean she isn't gone; we saw you kill her Perseus." Kym said to him, moving from her position at the end of the bed to the side opposite where Rhodes was. "There was that massive explosion, it was felt for miles." Percy sighed.
Percy recounted what the stranger had told him in his dream and the proceeding events on the beach, all the while his father listened attentively. His face morphing into different expressions throughout. Going from confused to shocked to angry and then back to confused. "So that's why… Jason or Leo or Annabeth didn't do anything to stop Gaia, if only I had known before, we could have found a way, a way to break Gaia's curse, they didn't have to die." Percy said dejectedly.
"I'm not sure what to say son, all I know is that this wasn't your fault, but this is all the more reason to take you to Olympus immediately. We also need to figure out who that man is." Poseidon grabbed his son's shoulder and rubbed it to soothe him. "But there is something you need to know before we go, when you fought Gaia and when you 'killed her' you burned away your mortal side, leaving only the godly side, normally this would kill someone but I think you survived because you fell immediately into the ocean below. I think it healed enough of your mortal self to allow the godly side to take advantage and seize control rather than just flat out kill you." Percy was confused at what Poseidon was trying to say.
"Okay… so what does that mean?" Percy questioned his father.
"When the godly side of a demigod takes over the mortal side, it either results in one of two things, death, or godhood, and considering you aren't dead…" Poseidon did not finish the statement. Percy was still trying to digest every bit of information given to him, he hadn't caught on yet.
"So?"
"So, he means you're a god, idiot." Kymopoleia interrupted, causing Poseidon to scowl at his daughter.
"While she could have phrased that better, she is correct, your godly side has taken over completely, you are a god now Percy, I know you wouldn't want this, I'm truly sorry Son." Percy was taken aback, he then remembered what the figure on the battlefield said.
"You won't have a choice this time"
The stranger was right, Percy never assumed the topic at hand would be godhood though. If he was a god that meant he couldn't die, he couldn't see Annabeth again, they would never have an eternity together, their eternity. He would never see her again. "God of what?" Percy asked his father.
"We don't know yet, that's why we must head to Olympus as soon as possible, Zeus wants you to receive your domains, a god without any domains is a dangerous thing, they tend to end up hijacking domains, leading to… complications and an awful lot of fighting." Percy nodded, accepting his circumstances, there was not any point fighting against it, there was nothing he could do, and he knew that. He was not sure if you could just stop being a god, and even it there were, he was unlikely to find the solution in this room. Percy swung his legs over the side of the bed and pushed himself up, before nearly falling back over onto the bed again, luckily being caught by Rhodes who helped him steady himself.
"How did 'killing' Gaia make me a primordial?" Percy asked of his father. Who merely shrugged?
"We don't know, you are one of two people to actually accomplish the feat, and the other was already a titan when it happened." Percy thought about his antagonist grandfather and how he had killed Uranus when he was younger. He thought back to the conversation with the stranger in his dream, he talked about Uranus as if he were still around, maybe he was, for all he knew before then he had killed Gaia but she was evidently alive and well, that brief conversation on the beach would be hard to explain.
It was at this time that a clearly recently awake Amphitrite walked into the room, with Triton at her heels. Percy initially had a less than good relationship with his stepmother but after having spent a bit of time at Atlantis, they had become somewhat friendly. Frankly, Percy was just glad that she was better than Hera was with Thalia, he had heard horror stories from the huntress.
"Hello Perseus, are you alright." Amphitrite asked new god. She was being surprisingly nice and looked genuinely concerned for her stepson's wellbeing. Triton behind her just huffed and nodded at him in greeting.
"Yeah, I'm alright I guess." She took that at face value and then turned to Poseidon, who grabbed a hold of Percy's shoulder and started to glow sea-green the preliminary sign of an oncoming flash, all the others in the room did the same. Percy wondered if he would ever be able to do that, it would definitely help with getting around the morning traffic in Manhattan. Percy squinted his eyes tightly shut.

When he opened them, he found himself in the throne room of Olympus, looking at the council and noticing a large number of demigods and minor gods present. At the centre of the room, as always was Zeus, except this time he was not slouching in his chair looking bored like in the rest of the council meeting, no this time he was stood up and looking at Percy with the intensity of a hawk. He looked around the room to see the various gods, many of them looked like they had not come out of the war in good condition. Apollo's arm was in a sling, Dionysus had a black eye even after two weeks and Aphrodite had chipped a nail.
He turned back towards Zeus before bowing. "Lord Zeus." Zeus for once in his life gave the demigod a small, sad smile.
"It's uncle now Percy, I'm very sorry for your predicament." Percy was shocked, Zeus had never even shown him a morsel of kindness before now, maybe Jason's death had affected him more than he had let on. Percy cut the king of the gods some slack and simply thanked him. His eyes moved along the line of seats to Hera who was looking at him sadly, trying not to meet his eyes, he glared daggers at her, she was the reason he was here at all, her damn prophecy manipulation. He had lost vital weeks with Annabeth because of her. He moved to the next seat where Hades was currently residing in a temporary throne like he did every winter solstice.
The final god he settled his eyes on was Athena, she had bags under her eyes, and she was completely zoned out unlike all the other time he had seen her. Percy decided not to catch her eye, no doubt they would talk sooner or later, but especially considering the animosity between them he decided that it would be beneficial for them both to grieve Annabeth separately.
Poseidon walked past Percy and up to his throne, giving him a pat on the back as he moved beside him, Poseidon sat down and Zeus started the meeting, as always, with a strike of the master bolt to the floor by his throne. Percy moved back to where Rhodes and Kymopoleia were standing with Triton and Amphitrite. Ignoring Zeus' opening remarks, Percy scanned the crowds in hope for familiar faces, he saw Thalia standing with the hunters by Artemis' feet. Nico stood with his father alongside Hazel. Piper stood by Aphrodite with the rest of her brothers and sisters. Frank was standing with Reyna at the side of the room dressed in full Praetor gear. Percy was glad to be rid of those clothes, he had found them extremely uncomfortable in the short time he spent at Reyna's side.
His train of thought was interrupted when he heard his name called by the king of the gods. "Perseus Jackson, it has come to the council's attention that you are no longer a mortal." This sent a murmur through the main hall and caused some whispering. Zeus stomped his foot to silence everyone.
"Yes Uncle, I'm not too knowledgeable of the circumstances but apparently it was Gaia's death that caused it." Zeus nodded. "I was actually wondering if it was reversible and that you might do me this one favour." Zeus looked sad for the demigod; he knew what was coming before he said it.
"I am afraid nephew, that that is not within our power, removing godhood has only ever been temporary in the past. Like when your father and my son were made to construct some walls for Laomedon." Percy remembered the story; Annabeth had told it in passing once. Poseidon and Apollo were made temporarily mortal in order to construct the walls of Troy.
Percy nodded his head and looked down at his feet, this was him them, cursed with immortality when he had nothing left to live for. "Percy, the fates will be arriving any time now in order to give you your domains." His father told him. And as if on cue, there were three flashes, and this time instead of three old ladies spinning fibre into long threads, there were three young, beautiful women. Immediately, one of them walked up to him.
"How did you do it… we have never been wrong in the past, why you, why now?" Percy was utterly taken aback. The three ladies had never been this confrontational previously. He recognised the fate interrogating him as Atropos, the final fate, and the cutter of threads. In her hand she clutched a sea green string of wool, recently cut. She held the string up to his eyes. "How did you do it? We talked to mother, even she did not know! Rest assured Percy Jackson, she will find out how you broke her rules." Percy was completely confused, as was everyone in the throne room.
"Lady Atropos, what seems to be the problem?" Zeus questioned. She did not answer merely looking at him with a glare, telling him to drop the subject, which he promptly did. Atropos moved back to her sisters and they all held hands until a fine mist started coagulating around them. Percy was ushered forward.
"Perseus Jackson, son of Sally Jackson and Poseidon, lord of the seas. We are here to bestow upon you your domains, they will be your eternal duty, your new beginning and your end, your doing and undoing." Percy felt the haze surround him and wind around his body, as soon as it touched him the mist turned a bright gold. "Mother, hear us, we pronounce Perseus Jackson the Lord of Time, the eternal balancer, thereby he becomes god of time, the three temporal states, life and loyalty." Percy felt the mist seep through his skin and into him. His mind went blank for a moment, completely devoid of all thoughts, before the pain brought him back, it was like his entire body was being reordered. Every fibre of his being was being changed.
Percy collapsed to the ground in a slump, letting out a painful scream, when the pain died down, he felt a tug in his mind. Like he was pulling a thread using only his mind, currently the thread was being pulled forward at an alarming speed. He concentrated his focus on the spot and the thread slowed to a crawl. Percy looked up and only then noticed the complete silence.
All around him, everyone was frozen, or it seemed that way at least. He slowly regained his footing, all the gods were stuck, mid stare at him. All the others in the room as well were completely motionless.
"Pretty neat trick! Right!" Percy turned around immediately at the voice, only to see an old man in a cheap gold suit pushing through the audience. He was the same one who had appeared to him in a dream, he ducked under a frozen demigod's extended arm and walked toward Percy.
"Who are you? what is this?" Percy asked the old man who smiled slightly. "You said you would tell me."
"That I did, well it's nice to meet you Percy Jackson, I'm Chronos." The realisation hit Percy like a brick, Chronos, the primordial of time. Chronos was holding out his out for Percy to shake, which Percy took hesitantly. "And this, is time manipulation my young friend." Chronos gestured with open arms to the room around them.
"Did you stop time?" Percy asked. Chronos stifled a laugh.
"Oh no, I can't do that, I am time itself, if I stopped it, I would cease to exist. No, you did this, and it isn't stopped, it's just going forward incredibly slowly. Here take a look." The primordial walked up to where Zeus was sitting and pointed at his eyes, which were ever so slowly moving downwards to close, he was mid blink. So that was how slowly they were going. "I get to be here with you because rather than moving through time, time moves through me, I'm always going at the speed time is." Percy was absolutely baffled. "Anyway, brief lesson in chronological manipulation, you feel that string in your mind, right?" Percy nodded. "Good, when you release your concentration, everything will go back to normal, when you pull on that string, time will go slower and maybe, eventually, you'll be able to reverse it, that'll take some practice though." Percy loosened up on the string a bit, and he saw Zeus blink a bit faster. "Anyway, I have to dash, see you around Percy, next time I'll bring the list with me."
"Wait, you can't just leave me at that! And what list?" Chronos chuckled, clearly finding the whole situation funnier than Percy was.
"Think of it like a scavenger hunt through time, I'll explain when we meet next, I suspect it might be a while though." Percy nodded reluctantly. "Oh, and don't be such a downer Percy, the future and past hold bright things for you, young man, trust me I've been there, literally." And with that, Chronos disappeared.
Percy let go of the string.
So that's another chapter, I hope you all like it, I also might update my other story Familial Retribution soon, but otherwise I plan to update this story as often as I can. I still need suggestions for pairings, so if you could leave those that would be great, I will probably just do it by popular vote, obviously there are a few limitations, but let me know if you want multiple pairings as well. Any story suggestions would be cool too!
Thanks for reading!
