Hello, this is my first fanfiction ever. I had this idea and a whole story around it.
Please review and tell me what I do wrong or good, I'm not a english speaker (french from Belgium here :))
I nod to the guardian in front of the queen's room door. Queen Vasilisa Dragomir was closing her necklace, as the last touch of her outfit.
"Ah, Dimitri, Good. All set?"
"Yes Your Majesty"
I hear her sigh. I know that she hates it when I use of her title but we're all business today. No beer with popcorn and a bad movie with Christian or Mia. Today, the Queen is meeting one of the most important politicians in Europe, Mr Dorme. A long time ago, all royals moved to the USA when The Court was moved from Romania, leaving Europe to some powerful and wealthy Moroï who "ruled" their way. They had to follow the laws of the Moroï world, had Alchemists, fear Strigoï, but the connections between the "Old word" and the new one are summed up to that. After ten years of ruling and honestly, a great ruling so far, Lissa decided that this scission inside the same people was enough. Our numbers keep dropping worldwide and we cannot afford to be divided.
As her closer guardian, I'm always the one walking with her to the official meeting room. Not that I want nor have anything else to do.
Since Rose died four years ago on a massive Strigoï attack on Court, my life is all about guarding Lissa day and night if it wasn't for my need of a little sleep. She keeps sending me away to have some rest but aside a trip to see my family after the funerals, I don't want to. Sometimes I feel like Rose would want me to. Take some time, rest, have a night with friends but honestly, my friends are all her's and Lissa's so… My rest time and guarding Lissa's time are more are less the same. Besides, Rose died protecting her best friend. What else could I do than protecting Lissa until I go joining her in the afterlife? I don't complain. The Queen is marvelous. She was my love's best friend, they knew each other since kindergarten and even shared a psychic bond for many years. Rose's death had been nothing but hard for me and her. I can't count the nights hearing her sobbing in her bed or coming by me, in the living room next to the bedroom she share with her husband Chistian so he could sleep. Neither of us slept for days after the attack. First she was just sitting in silence in the couch opposite to my chair but as time passed, we began talking about Rose, night after night. She told me of their childhood, their time away from the academy, the absurd things Rose did and the wise. Some nights she cried, and some she laughed, some she didn't say anything as I told her about our incredible 6 years of love. Months went by and we grew close. She still comes to me some nights when she can hear I don't sleep either, four years later, sobbing and needing someone who understand the immensity of the hole in her heart. Aside of my mother, she is the only person who ever saw the so called great Dimitri Belikov crying. I feel safe with her. Ever since she restored me I did but since those long sleepless nights, a bond between our broken hearts formed. She still compels me to sleep some nights when I can't take it anymore. As time goes by it happens less and less. The black hole in me will stay but it doesn't hurt so much as it did. She then requested me as her guardian for both sake and well, she's the Queen, so I am her guardian.
"Don't forget to remind everyone that they could have different manners than us. I know their guardians don't wear uniforms for example. And they could.."
"Lissa. We know." I cut her lightly "I'm from Russia remember, things are a bit different there as well . I briefed everyone." She smiles. She's not known to ramble but some time with her half-sister, Jill changed that a bit. We arrive at the meeting room and as we pass the door, I see a strange face on one of the guardian watching the entrance.
"Guardian Pierce, what's the problem?"
"oh no problem at all Dimitri, just.. well, you'll see by yourself"
Everybody stands up as the Queen makes her entrance. Council members, high rank or not visitors, that's a rule to show respect. I quickly scan the room, noticing my four colleagues from the queen's guard in each corner. In those officials meeting, visitors and council members don't need to be guarded as the queen is so heavily so that's pretty much all for the dhampirs count. Some Royals still have their own but it often is for the show of having one.
"Welcome everyone, please, sit. We are so pleased to have you here Mr Dorme" she says as she shake our guest's hand. Everybody sits but one Moroï.
What the hell? She stands there, behind Mr Dorme, looking all guardianlike. Straight face, black boots, black shirt, jeans, stake at her belt. All black if it wasn't for her high bright pink hair. She's not as tall as the average moroï and not as lean. She's not as short and bulk as most dhampir female. She's in between. Even her complexion doesn't look as pale as should be. Kind of Mia's color. The color moroï gets working and training outside. I don't really understand what's going on and I can see I'm not the only one. Lissa is all confused for a minute, looking at the girl but she quickly dismiss the shock on her face to compose a more "queenly" face.
I go standing behind her, as usual, guardian mask on my face but hell, I can't quite understand the fuck is going on here. The girl and Mr Dorme seems like everything in absolutely normal so nobody would dare to question the situation.
"All the pleasure is mine Your Majesty.I'm so pleased to be here at Court, it is a joy for me to take part of this historic moment for our people."
The meeting goes by very well. The politician seems to be a very smart man, polite, respectful, and with a slight sense of humor. He's charming everyone with his light French accent and good manners. As the meeting ends, everyone is in a perfect mood, planning some more meetings to discuss the political issues of the visit. Just moments before Lissa stands up, I see the pink haired moroi leaning to the man discreetly and nodding after he whispered something.
The man turns to Lissa
" Your Majesty, may I excuse myself, I think I need some rest, the jetlag is getting the best of me "
"of course Mr Dorme, I hope you'll find our guest rooms to your taste. I'm so sorry if I sound rude to you but, you requested only one room, and one for a guardian" she says, glancing toward Pinky, "We can check for a second one if needed"
"oh my, I'm so sorry, Your Majesty. It is always confusing for people who don't know us. I'm the one being rude here. May I introduce to you Guardian Thorne, my sister and, well, Guardian. "
Silence fell in the room. How is that even possible? A moroï guardian? A guardian Moroï? His sister?
She just stays there, perfect guardian blank mask on her face behind her brother.
"oh, hum, Nice to meet you Guardian.. Thorne." Lissa says with a question mark all over her face.
Pinky bow to the queen, as any guardian is supposed to. "Your Majesty".
"Yes, she goes by her husband's name. Seems that being my sister and my guardian is enough to bear" he add with a little laugh.
The girl says nothing, still blank face. they must be used to the chock they create around them."She will stay in your guardian's quarters as we discussed when we made the arrangements. Don't worry. Have a good dayYour Majesty"
As the two of them leave, Lissa stares at me. Like I knew and kept it from her.
"Guardian Belikov, let's go to my office" Her voice is cold. Damn, our Queen is not always a soft and sweet angel, I can hear she's pissed ignoring this.
"how is that even possible for you to ignore this!" she says as soon as her office's door close.
"well, your Majesty, .."
"Don't your Majesty me! I just looked like an idiot back there, not knowing my important guest's sister is his moroï-guardian, guardian-moroi whatever this is!"
"I swear to you we didn't know Lissa. He filed a request for a guardian's room with a different name than his. We ever saw an hint about a guardian being his moroï sister. That's ever heard of."
I can see she's scrutinizing me. She knows I never lied to her in ten years. Making things sometimes a bit complicated for the other guardians as I always tell her if there's a danger around. She sighs.
"ok. Well, I don't know how to deal with it. I'd like you to go to the guardian's quarter, just to be sure she's treated well. Feel the mood around. See what others will think of this and report me if anything goes wrong. We can't have a group of hum.. uncivilized guardians looming over her, as strange as it is."
"Of course"
"Actually, could you go see her to make sure she knows who to go to if she has anything to ask?"
"Yes, I'll go as soon as you're safe with Chistian"
"Dim"
"Please Lissa. You know"
"yeah.. I know." She looks at me, knowing the unsaid meaning of my words. Her face is so soft. She really looks like an angel like this. I smile and we resume our activities. She has a few hone walls to make to schedule the meetings of the upcoming days with Mr Dorme as check the schedule of the queen's guard. I am not the one in charge as I want to be actively in charge of her next to her. Like in the same room as much as her intimacy permits it. The head guardian of the Queen's guard spends 90% of her time in an office, checking security, planning the trips and meetings, checking guardians of the guests she's receiving. I most surely don't want that. But Guardian Byrde has become a good friend of mine over time. She knows I have to check everything, being the control freak I am with the Queen's life.
"Dimitri?"
"Your Majesty?"
"Are you ok if we go now? Christian said he had time for lunch I don't want to make him wait. The fact that he said he'd make me a pokebowl has of course nothing to do with it."
'Of course, let's go" one touch on my earpiece as I tell the guards along and we go. Her office is not far from their private space in the palace but two guardians join us on the way. We enter the private space and as soon as the door close we can hear a cheerfull Christian yelling "Dimitri, you better have something better to do for lunch because I have big plans on having a poke on her naked…"
"CHRISTIAN!" Lissa cuts him, blushing.
"Yes my love?" We can hear him chuckle. Ten years, two kids, those two are still a young couple. They know I don't mind. Well, he does know and frequently play with it, she's more discreet. But with so much time behind their doors, being there for absolutely everything in their lives from their honeymoon to the birth of Andre and little Alice, they don't really have much secrets anymore with me. Actually, my Roza did tell Lissa so much about our private life I feel I'm the one with no secrets here.
"Please Dimitri, will you check on guardian.. Thorne?" she turns to me abruptly, trying to change subject.
"Yes Lissa, right now". She puts a light kiss on my cheek. She's the only one allowed to touch me.
"Thanx. I call you when.. well. After. " She blushes as she close the door.
I leave their apartment nodding to the two guardians standing by the main entranceand head towards the guardians quarters. I don't konw if guardian Thorne will be there or if she's having lunch with her brother. He said he's jetlagged so maybe she is sleeping too? Fuck, I don't know if I should disturb here or let her rest.
As I go by the office to check which room she got, I ask the guardian if she saw her coming to her room.
"Yes he is. I know it's none of our business but Belikov, did you see her?"
"Yes I did"
"And you don't think it is hmm.. strange?"
"Of course I do. But as you said, that's none of our business and this is the guardian AND sister of an important guest of the Queen so we just go with it and try to make her stay as normal as possible"
" yes yes,of course! she seems nice by the way. She said thank you three times when I show her around, a fourth when I gave her the key, and gave me a huge smile all fangs showing when I told her to come hang out at the rest room whenever she wants "
Damn. Fangs. We didn't plan any feeders for her. I'll show her the feeder's place later. She must be in need after such a long trip. I'll explain the feeder's manager.
" You did well. The Queen really wants this to go smoothly. Let's keep the guys quiet and nice around her you know how the quarters can be at night. "
He chuckles "yeah… I'll talk to the worst, like Anton or..
"Thank you. I'll check on her you!" I say, leaving toward the guest rooms for guardians. Guest rooms aren't big, but you have everything you need for a short time. Bathroom, kitchenette, and a room with a bed, a couch and a TV. Very similar to ours. Some guardians have their own homes but a huge majority of us stays in those kind of rooms. Rose and I had our own apartments next to the palace. Even if we spent most of our time IN the palace with Lissa and Christian and often Mia, Eddie, Adrian and Sydney when they visit with not so little Duncan, Jill was often crowded there but so warm, like a big family of people who didn't have anymore. We even had a room inside the palace but well, you know, Rose is not a quiet girl. And I liked to keep our sex life private. And we liked to have a lot of it. We didn't see each other often at the beginning as she was in Lehigh with Lissa and I was with Christian. But when Lissa graduated from college and came back living at court, Christian and Lissa had a lot to make up for and so did we. That was heaven. Those memories.. at the beginning I hurt so much and now the bittersweet memories make me smile. She was so hot. So perfect. I will never forget the curve of her hips and boobs, her tanned skin, her wild hair bouncing above me when she rode me wild. God that's not something I should think of now. Focus Dimitri. It's lunch time and you're going to greet a European moroï trained as a guardian for her brother. With pink hair.
"Oh, Hi Guardian Belikov! " and tattoos. Lots of it. She opened the door, obviously just getting out of the shower. Her pink hair dripping water all over her shirt and denim shorts. "oups sorry hum… there. " she quickly pick them up in a messy bun.
"Hi Guardian Thorne, sorry to bother you, I came to introduce myself but too late obviously. "
"Oh sorry. How rude of me. Well, no need to introduce yourself, you're worldwide famous you know."
"Really?"
"Really. Your legend travelled all the way the Belgium. The god like Russian guardian who found the last Dragomir after two years of escaping every radar, strigoï restored, survivor of the biggest strigoï attack at Court known in history of time and Queen's special guardian. Hum. See? Kind of unique and we don't live in a cave so..."
She blushes slightly as I stay silent at that resume of my life "Oh my god sorry, I didn't say that to offend you. Just, so, you know, I didn't stalk you or anything, just that I know who you are that's it. So Sorry"
"No offense, That's kind of true actually so.. well, except for the god part. I don't know where that come from and seems to stick." I respond, matter of factly.
"Please, don't stay there come on in? I just arrived I can't offer you anything to drink and please don't mind the mess I'm unpacking."
"No trouble, I was just passing by to see if you need anything. " As I enter the room, I see everything tidy. I can't see the mess she's talking about. She obviously never saw a Rose Hattaway mess. Just one luggage on the bed with well-organized bags inside.
"Well, I don't think so. Thank you very much. Everybody here is so friendly and kind. That's great."
"Ok, you really should not hesitate to ask for anything. If you don't know who can help you, ask me. Here, I give you my phone number. Really anything. Question, trouble, hunger, looking for something or someone I'm your guy. If someone's troubling you, call me. I don't know how it is over there where you live but guardians here can be.. specials. Oh, and I can get you to the feeder's. They're on another part of the Court as we don't usually…hum.. need them here."
"Yeah, I know. Sorry, I don't mean to cause any trouble. My brother and I are not common around here. We are from a new generation of mixed dhampir and moroï."
"Please, don't justify yourself, I have to admit I'm a bit curious about it but I don't want to disturb you any more. You must be tired with the jetlag. Do you want to go to the feeder's now?"
"No thank you I'm ok. I'm used to stay off blood longer than this. I think I need more sleep than blood. I have to wake my brother up in an hour or so. I'll go with him. Thank you again"
"You're welcome, anything. I go back to the queen's but as Lord Ozera is back at court, they won't want me too close tonight so I can show you and your brother around."
"Ok perfect, I'll see you later so?" she smiles broadly. She doesn't hide her fangs. For a moroï not behaving like a moroï it is so strange. She seems to be really ok with all this.
"Oh, and I'm sorry if I don't speak perfectly, I'm from Belgium. The French speaking side of Belgium so, you know, I need time to adjust"
"Don't worry, I understand, my first year here after Russia was quite hard for me" I answer with a smile. Poor girl. It must be hard on her with the jetlag, being a moroi guarding her brother in aworld where she is not expected to do that, not speaking the language, away from her husband yet she's there, nothing but smile, her pink hair dripping on her shoulder and thanking me a lot too much for American way."but dn"t worry, you speak very well. And it's nice to hear this French accent, maybe I can find old reminiscent French words from school"
"oh vraiment? Tu as appris le français?"
"Un petit peu. But not enough to keep going I think" even I can hear the Russian accent in the french words. So weird.
"Maybe it will come back" she says with a grin.
"Peut-être" I say in a still very bad French. "I see you later, call me anytime "
"Thanks, bye Guardian Belikov"
"Dimitri. Call me Dimitri"
"Ok Dimitri, see you later"
She closes the door with a large smile. What a nice girl. She's quite bright, like her hair.
What the fuck Dimitri? Where is this coming from?
I laugh at myself going back to my room, grabbing some lunch.
