A Light in the Darkness: Hotaru's quirk didn't always come easy to her, controlling energy can be overwhelming, but she is determined to be the best hero she can possibly be despite all the circumstances she has against her. OCx?
Author's Note: Here is chapter 2! I used some dialogue from episode 3 (dubbed) but I hope I added in enough to make it more original. Enjoy and please let me know how I did. The next chapter should be out after Thanksgiving. I am going home to my parents for a few days (Don't worry, I am negative as I just had a test done), and won't have a computer to write and publish. The next chapter is already written, it just needs to be tweaked and edited. Anyone, here you go!

Chapter 2: The Starting Line
"I still can't believe you have a quirk now," Hotaru murmured, munching on the last bite of her blueberry poptart, her green haired friend laughing nervously beside her. "All it took was for that jerk to be in danger. Super strength, huh?"
"Yes...I guess I just needed to be under real stress or something...hahaha" Midoriya rubbed at the back of his head awkwardly, "That's what I've been working on the last few weeks. My body can't handle it right now, so I've been trying to condition it."
"I can help, if you want," Hotaru offered, throwing the poptart wrapper in a trash can as they walked past, wiping her hands on her black spandex leggings. "You already know how I train, maybe that would be beneficial to you as well."
"Really?! I don't want to bother your Hotaru-chan!" Midoriya exclaimed, blushing again at his friend's offer, wanting to take it but at the same time not knowing if he could because of the nature of his new abilities and the secrets that came with them. "Woah! Look at it!" His expression changed to pure delight as he and Hotaru rounded a corner and UA came into view in the distance. "It's so big!"
A huge building with many blue-tinted windows that almost looked like the letter H stood before both teens who had paused at the site of the school they had both been dreaming about since they were children. There was a large, brick fence and an even larger entrance, whose gate appeared to be electric, that had several designed arches that were letting other hopeful teens walk through on the way to the school's entrance exam. Hotaru watched as a wide variety of other teenagers, ranging in gender, size, skin color, and obvious quirk mutations walked past the forms of Midoriya and her, some in groups with their friends, like the two were, or alone.
"T-this is it Hotaru-chan" Midoriya clattered, drawing the taller teens attention once more, her yellow eyes locking onto his now shaking form, "We made it just in time!"
Hotaru was about to try and calm her friend when a low, somewhat rough voice, barked "Stupid Deku!" This caused the green haired teen to jump and turn around quickly while Hotaru just sighed tiredly.
"It's still too early for this," Hotaru mumbled, turning to eye her other childhood friend, the term used loosely as she wouldn't consider the spikey, blond haired boy that was currently glaring at both with narrow red eyes a friend anymore - not since he turned into a huge asshole.
"Kacchan!" Midoriya exclaimed, "Good morning!"
"Stay out of my way or I'll set you both on fire!" He barked, his eyes narrowing even further at the dry look Hotaru gave him.
"What crawled up your ass and died this morning? It's too early for your nonsense" Hotaru spoke, not caring that her words caused Midoriya to panic even more because Katsuki Bakugo, the blonde, who had just walked past them after his threats, spun back around and was stomping towards the girl who was slightly taller than him (only by half an inch).
"What did you say to me, you damn fairy?!" He barked, reaching for the collar Hotaru's light yellow jacket, as it was cold out, however the girl simply ducked him as Midoriya sprang between the two, not wanting a fight to break out between them and then they all would get in trouble and not be able to take the exam.
"K-Kacchan! Hotaru!" Midoriya stuttered, putting an uneasy grin on his face, "Let's all do our best!"
"Tch!" Bakugo spat, throwing once last glare at the two before stuffing his hands back in his pockets and stomping past, shoving his shoulder into Hatoru's as he went - the girl only smirked, not moving an inch from the impact.
"Why do you do that Hotaru-chan?" Midoriya questioned, worrying that his friend would push the blond too far one day.
"It's fun" Hotaru shrugged, not telling him that she also did it to keep the focus off of him, because she was telling the truth. Getting the blonde boy angry and watching his facial expressions was hilarious to Hotaru, he made it so easy too! "We better check in," Hotaru added, watching in amusement as Midoriya just sighed tiredly at her, seeming worn out from her words.
"R-right! We better go!" He took a step forward, his face going from determined to panicked as his feet got tangled and he tripped, falling towards the ground.
"Izu-" Hotaru started, reaching out towards her friend, hoping to catch him before he hit the ground and potentially hurt himself, however she was beaten to it by a smaller, brunette teen reaching out and causing Midoriya to float in place. The girl had short, shoulder length, fluffy brown hair, big brown eyes, and cheeks that appeared to be permanently rosey.
"Are you okay?" She asked, smiling at the frozen boy. Hotaru raised an eyebrow at the girl, reaching over and helping set her friend on his feet. He was just staring at the girl in fixation, unable to say anything. "Haha! I'm sorry I used my quirk on you without asking!"
"Cool quirk," Hotaru offered, wondering what exactly it was that she did.
"Thanks!" The girl replied, her voice high pitched. "Aren't you both nervous? This whole thing is so nerve wracking!" She continued, "Welp! We better get going. I'll see you inside!" Hotaru smiled, nodding as the girl spun around, without letting either of them get another word in, and walked towards the entrance of the school.
"Are you okay, Izuku? Or did your head just explode?" Hotaru nudged her friend, finding it amusing as she watched a large blush grow on the boy's face.
"I just talked to a girl!" He exclaimed, turning towards his friend and then freezing again.
"Gee, thanks" Hotaru rolled her eyes, smile never leaving her face.
"W-wait! That's not what I meant!" Midoriya tried to recover, his face going even redder if possible. "I-I know you're a girl Hotaru!"
"Sure you do," Hotaru teased as she began to walk towards the entrance of the school again,
"Hotaru!" Midoriya whined, running after her to catch up, wanting to apologize to his friend and scold her for teasing him at the same time.
"Don't worry about it Izuku, I know I'm not very girly" Hotaru waved her friend off, pulling out her middle school ID to hand to one of the adults currently checking students in. "Let's focus on the entrance exam, okay? We can't afford to be distracted." Hotaru took her ID back and a sheet with her name, number and room on it, waiting for Izuku to get his. Her friend's blush had calmed down quickly, a fierce look on his face as he considered her words, bowing slightly as he took his forms back. Both friends went to walk down the hall to their respective classrooms for the written portion of their exam.
"You're right Hotaru-chan!" Midoriya said, raising a clenched fist in front of him, "We have to focus! If we want to become heroes like All Might, we have to do our best and pass this test. No distractions! This is our starting line to becoming heroes!"
Hotaru smiled at her friend's determination, this is what made her believe in her friend, even when he was quirkless, because Midoriya had such a driven and kind heart. However, she couldn't resist adding one last quib, "Yes, no distractions, even from a cute girl." She let out a laugh, going into her assigned room, different from Midoriya's which was next door, as her friend froze with a heavy blush coming to his face once more.
"Hotaru-chan!"
Author's Note: Welp, there was chapter 2. What did you think? Good, bad, need more to judge? We can see some more of her relationship with Midoriya in this chapter as well as get a hint at her relationship with Bakugo as well. She doesn't put up with his attitude, and I couldn't just make them friends. Her best friend is Midoriya and Bakago treated him horribly growing up. They were friends at one point, her and Bakugou, but we'll see more and get more of that tea as time goes on. You also see her quirk in action in the next chapter as well.
Anyway, have a safe holiday and in case no one has told you today; you are important and loved.
