Chapter 2 My Name is Mary Sue

Star glanced around the landscape with no idea what to feel. On the one hand, this could probably be a dangerous situation. After all, it wasn't everyday that someone winds up in a fictional land.

But on the other hand...well, it wouldn't take a genius to realize that this was Star's dream come true. She had been a fan of the Mario games since she was a little kid. And of course, if what was said about the Transporter was to be believed, then this version of the Mushroom World was the one that she wrote about, which was a win.

Speaking of the transporter...she should probably get to looking for that, shouldn't she?

With this thought in mind, Star let out a grumpy sigh and started to make her way north. She knew exactly where she was; Stonebrim was less than a mile away. It shouldn't take her long to get there. Sure, she wasn't in the best shape, but she could still easily walk a mile.

Sure enough, she got to Stonebrim in no time flat. She smiled as she walked through, for she knew every nook and cranny of this town. The drab colors of the northern side were a very refreshing sight to see. The people bustling about were just as dreadful, and she loved it.

Interestingly, nobody took notice of Star. This upset her on some level.

"Why isn't anybody bowing down to me?" she asked out loud. "I did create this world. Granted, not from scratch, but still."

She continued to trek through the town. Everybody kept their sullen eyes on the path ahead of them. No one bothered to turn to the young woman strolling down the way, which was extremely odd. Star would have expected them to at least give her their boundless praise by now.

Oh well. She tried to not to let it bother her. Maybe the reason why she wasn't getting the praise she wanted was because these guys weren't the main characters of the series she wrote for. If that was the case, she needed to find the Koopalings in order to get some adoration.

Oh, and help locating the Transporter. That was important too, kind of.

With that, Star started to make her way in the direction of Bowser's Castle. It wasn't until she looked through a store window that she realized she was in no position to entertain an audience.

"Oh, silly me," she said out loud, "I'm wearing my pajamas!" Normally, she would feel embarrassed that she was wearing such an outfit in public, but right now she was just irritated that nobody took the time to point that out. So, she made her way to the nearest store. The first clothing store that crossed her eye was a simple little thrift store called Benny's. Star entered it without so much as a second thought.

The store was rather small, but at least it had clothes. And, conveniently, they were organized in a color coded way. Star went over to the blue section and picked out a simple shirt and a pair of blue jeans. They were rather nice, much nicer than any of the clothes she owned at home. She went up to the checkout counter, where she was greeted by a smiling Dragon koopa.

"Hi!" he said. "It's not everyday we encounter a human at Benny's."

"And it's not everyday that I come to Benny's," Star said. She handed the clothes to the Dragon Koopa so he could start ringing them up. Once he was done, he smiled at her.

"That'll be nine coins."

Star immediately felt embarrassed.

"I don't...have any money."

The Dragon Koopa's face fell a little.

"Oh. Well, that's too bad. Come back when you have some."

Star was just about to leave, when all of a sudden something occurred to her. She shouldn't need money! She was the entire reason why the Dragon Koopa at the counter was able to live and breath and talk. She went back up to the counter, took a deep breath, and started to give a speech.

"Okay, listen here, Adam…"

"That's not my name," said the Dragon Koopa.

"Whatever," Star said, waving her hand to dismiss the statement. "Do you even have the slightest idea of who you are talking to?"

The Dragon Koopa raised an eyebrow.

"A girl in her pajamas?" he said with a tone of skepticism and incredulity.

"No. Well, technically yes, but you also happen to be talking to someone far more important than that! I am StarlitDuck! I am the genius author who has so masterfully written this place down!"

As she spoke, the Dragon Koopa looked more and more frightened. However, Star didn't care. She continued on with the speech, droning on for about half an hour. But the time she was done, she was so out of breath that she felt as if he had run a marathon.

"And those are the reasons why I don't need some stupid money," Star said. "So, do you think you can give me the clothes now?"

The Dragon Koopa blinked before putting on a smile.

"Why of course!"

Star blinked.

"Really?"

"No," the Dragon koopa said. "In fact…" he pressed a button on the counter. "Security, can you come escort this young lady out of the building?"

Star gawked as she was grabbed hold of by the two burly sledge brothers dawning security garbs.

"What?" she cried. "You can't do this! I...I can give a better speech! I just started studying rhetoric in school!"

With that, the security bros quite literally kicked Star out of the building. Once the door closed, she got up and smoothed her clothes out. Things clearly weren't going well for our resident Mary Sue. It looks like she needed to find the Koopalings sooner rather than later.
