Marry You
"Are you sure you want to do this?" she asked as she tightened her grip on my hand.
"I am. I love you and I want this for us. I'm sure." I paused for a moment. "But if you're not certain I don't mind waiting. I'd wait forever for you." That wasn't a lie. It had taken us so long to get together in the first place. But she was worth every second.
She kissed me quickly. "I love you too. And I know I want to be with you for the rest of my life. And I know I said yes to this but…" She trailed off and looked down at the floor. "I mean it's normal to have cold feet right?"
I let go of her hand and wrapped an arm around her hugging her closer to me. She rested her head on my shoulder. This was my first and hopefully last wedding. I couldn't help but wonder if the certainty I felt was normal. I never felt more positive about anything in his life. "That's what so many people say. You know, they say that it's normal before a wedding to have cold feet, my love."
She had good reason to be uneasy about this decision. Everything had come together so fast. She had surprised me with a Vegas trip for my 21st birthday. Three days into the trip I surprised her with a ring and a mere few hours later there we were in the lobby of a 24 hour wedding chapel.
It had been my idea.
Flying high from the euphoria of having your true love agree to marry you and a little drunk from several rounds of champagne I spotted the chapel as we strolled along the bright lights of Las Vegas. I half expected Reggie to call the whole thing off and leave him kneeling in the street. The other half of me knew that she loved me too much to ever do that. At the very least I expected her to insist that I was drunk and force me to go to bed (I wasn't really. Well, I wasn't that drunk at least). I looked into her gorgeous, deep brown eyes which were shining in the reflection of the city lights and asked her 'why don't we do it right now'. And to my delight she closed her and said yes.
That had been almost an hour ago. Now we were waiting in the lobby of Cupid's Wedding Chapel on The Strip contemplating the rest of our lives.
"I feel so torn between wanting to be your wife as soon as possible and not knowing if this is how I want to become your wife." She said looking up to me, our fingers intertwined. "I was never one of those girls that dreamt about her wedding day down to the smallest details. And then I fell in love with you and now I have this secret vision of our wedding."
"Yeah?" I asked, the smile on my face growing. Reggie was always more of a tomboy and that only made me love her more. She was one of the guys. I couldn't picture my Reggie picking out china patterns and having discussions about lace veils. But I'd gladly do all the boring wedding things if that's what she wanted. Anything for Reggie.
"Yeah. I've just been picturing this beautiful moment between the two of us with all our family and friends there." she paused "I don't think I can do this without my dad and Otto."
"And my parents. And Tito and Sam. Hell even Lars." I said with a smile. Of course Lars was a pain but he was still my only brother. If we were doing a big white wedding I'd need him there as my groomsman.
"Maybe on the beach at night so we can say our vows in the moonlight." she said excitedly. Her dark brown eyes lit up and a smile formed across her lips. She was so beautiful, especially like this. Enlivened with ideas for our future special day. One that I would make absolutely perfect to suit her desires.
"Okay...so...we're definitely not doing this?" I asked.
"Not today." she said, shaking her head, still smiling. "But we should still celebrate today as the day we got engaged."
I leaned over and kissed her forehead. I was over the moon that we would be married someday but I couldn't help but feel a little sadness knowing that the woman I loved wouldn't be my wife today. I'm guessing she could sense it within me.
"Hey" she began softly, "Could you even imagine Raymundo's reaction to us running off to Vegas to get married?"
I snorted involuntarily. "If he didn't kill us first my mom definitely would have whomped us."
We both shared a laugh suddenly cleansing the air around us.
"So what do you want to do now, my fiancé?" she asked though the expectancy in her eyes suggesting she already knew the answer.
"Well you did say you wanted to celebrate our engagement" I said, flashing her a mischievous grin as I brought her hand to my lips. She let out the cutest giggle.
"We should! With more champagne...but back at our hotel room."
"Let's go!" I said standing up lightly tugging her up.
I couldn't stop smiling as we left Cupid's Wedding Chapel and made our way down the street. I squeezed my love's hand and she squeezed back. I couldn't wait for the wedding day and the lifetime of happiness that laid before us.
I hope you enjoyed my little mini fic. I originally wanted this story to be about them getting married in Vegas but that's more my style than the characters style so this came. And Cupid's Wedding Chapel is a real place you can get married by a James Brown impersonator there (I really wanted y'all to know that). I'm hoping to do a series of these inspired by songs that I like. The song this is based off of is Marry You by Bruno Mars. Please review if you feel inclined. Or don't I can't tell you what to do and I 100% wrote this for myself.. Disclaimer: I do not own Rocket Power. If I did these two would have at least hinted at liking each other. Just a little bit.
