[New Quest:]
[Where the Hell are you!: Find out which Universe you are in]
[-Say or Think the Fictional Title of the Universe you are currently in]
[Rewards: +50 Exp|+50 Credits|+Skill: Observe]
[Failure: Forced to wear an "I am Dumb" sticky-note on your forehead for a week]
As my vision fades back into consciousness, I absentmindedly read the new quest as I observe my surroundings. I'm fully enveloped by a thick forest, no way out in sight. The saturation of said forest is what sticks out the most; It's dark, much darker than any forest has the right to be. It's almost as if the shadows of the forest are alive, with the way they maneuver out of sight.
I reread the quest, now sure I'm probably safe from danger at this very moment. "So, what? You want me to name every fictional series I know of, and on the off chance I get it right, I'll reap my rewards?"
[Quest: Where the Hell are you!, Update]
[Guess Limit: 0/10]
…
"Me and my big mouth." I sigh as I massage my forehead. 'Today's just been a huge mess, and I'd rather find a good resting place than deal with any more of this bullshit.' "Okay, ten guesses, that's more than fair. So, what fictional worlds have a prominent forest that tends to be dark and spooky. Let's see, there's Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings…
[...1/10…]
[...2/10…]
"Dude! I'm not actually guessing! Good grief…" I pause, then sigh in reluctant acceptance. "I guess I did technically say the fictional names of those worlds… bah humbug."
I shiver goes down my spine as I look again to the looming shadows. It's not the fact that they look alive that scares me; it's the fact that they look hungry, a primal desire to consume all that stand in their path…
"I'm just gonna go…" A howl booms through the awkward silence; as my slow walking pace turns into a full on sprint. The howl sounded a tad demonic, but I couldn't tell if it actually was or if I was just hearing things. "If this is a horror world I swear to Kami I'm going to hit something…"
'Okay, Amara, think; what world do you know of that has dark spooky forests and random wolf attacks. Uh, Skyrim?'
[...3/10…]
'Drat! It's a good thing Gamer's Soul is keeping my fear down, otherwise I wouldn't be able to think straight, let alone scamper away from any kind of wolf. I'm still at around a base human agility score, and wolves are much faster than that… I just need to outpace it.
[New Skill:]
[Empowered Sprint: Lv 1[1/10]|Cost: 10 Mp/min]
[-Artificially Boost your Running Speed via Mana]
[-+10% Agi while Active]
'Okay, yeah, that could work.' I look behind me, given my sudden increase in speed, only to notice the shadows catching up. 'Fuck, I need to get faster. Alright, so 10% increase for an Agility score of 7… 7.7. If Agility can roughly be measured into meters per second, then I'm running at 7.7 m/s instead of 7m/s… and increase of, what? .7 times 60, 7 times 6, an extra 42 meters per minute?'
[+1 Wis]
[+1 Agi]
[You're running for your life, the Agility increase so soon is due to your lack of any physical training. Just remember that training your stats requires a decimal exponential increase. Nothing so damaging as anything over than 2… Those tend to spiral out of control.]
As my Agility increases, my speed increases. I don't actually have to focus to notice the shift in my speed this time, so that's great. 'Yeah, that might work… Every Active Skill requires mana to use, so if I increase my Intellect and Wisdom to high enough levels, I won't have to worry so much about keeping them up. Without leveling up the Empowered Sprint Skill, each increase to my Agility is going to increase my max running speed by… uh, 8 times 6 is 48.'I groan in understanding. 'By 6… because it'll always by a decimal increase over a minute, 60 seconds over an increase of Agility divided by 10. That will increase as the skill levels up, hopefully up to a point I can run faster than anything in this world, but that will take a while, and I don't have a while.'
[+1 Wis]
I hum in appreciation as I continue to run through the dank forest. The shadows are still gaining, but not by as much as I thought. 'Good, now I've got a positive net mana gain from using Empowered Sprint. Now to get back on track. I need to figure out what world I'm in before those shadow wolf things catch me. Observe would be a great Skill to utilize in that situation, figuring out weaknesses and stuff.'
As soon as that thought ends I have to end my sprint before I crash into a cliff face. 'Wow, that's tall… And it appears I've been chased into a small clearing, leading into the base of the cliff. Those shadow wolves clearly knew what they were doing.'
"Clever girl… Wait, shadow wolves? I'm not in the Ecchi Anime am I? The familiar forest thing? I'd rather not be turned into a Devil, thanks?"
[...4/10…]
[No, you are not in High School DxD. Or any of the other Harem Anime stuff either. I mean, the world building was fantastic, but it was ruined by the power of Oppai.]
"Pfft. Oppai Dragon. That's never going to get old. Okay, so not DxD… Let's hope they show themselves before attacking. I might be able to guess based on their appearances if they're not normal wolves."
The shadows approach, clinging to the rim of the forest. A half circle of trees, keeping me trapped. 'I wouldn't be able to develop a climbing skill fast enough to not be insta-gibbed by these wolf things.'
Another howl, this one more menacing than the other. A moment of silence, pure dread, passes; As three quadrupedal forms rise from the shadows. They appear much larger than an ordinary wolf; black and gray fur, ivory bone armour covering their faces and necks, blood red eyes, swirling like the shadows they rose from. There are 3 in total, their leader standing inbetween them.
"Menu!"
The wolves freeze, along with the rest of reality, as my perception dives to the max. 'These aren't just wolves of shadow. Bone protrusion, shadowy base forms, these are Beowolves. I'm in RWBY… Fuck!'

'Okay, if I have Empowered Sprint, I should be able to make one of those for Strength and Vitality as well, but I'll have to do it outside of the Menu, right? I can't really make physical Skills while time is basically frozen… Mental Skills on the other hand…

Well, if I time it right, I could switch between the Strength, Vitality, and Agility ones to keep my Mana high, while keeping Meditation on so I can get it to the point it'll give back more than it costs. I… should probably put enough into Wisdom to get a net positive Mp Regen rate from using 2 Skills at once. Alright, let's do this.'
[+1 Wis]
Time comes back into focus as I activate Meditation. A weird feeling of peace and serenity fills the air. 'Guess that's the Aura of Calm.' The level 3 Beowolf freezes, but shakes the feeling off, the other two follow their leader's footsteps. They start growling at each other, 'some kind of communication?', and after a while the level 1 steps up.

The Beowolf stalks closer, leaning into the ground, it's shadow contorts around it's body. I crouch, lowering my center of mass, and put my hands into fists; thumbs on the outside. I might not have any actual combat training, but I do know some of the basics. When it enters the 1 meter radius, it stops, a puzzled look in it's otherwise dead eyes. The level 3 growls again, and the level 1 shakes the feeling off. Of course, that was enough time for me to get in close jab the thing in it's neck.
[Beowolf: Hp: 41.2/50]
With my Strength and Agility increased by 10 percent, I spam some more jabs into the beast's neck while it's shocked at my attack, stuck in my grip by my other arm. 'Boy, am I glad my attack directly affect it's Hp. I'd probably be screwed otherwise.

The other two Beowolves look in anger as there pack member turns into dust. I take in a breath. '1 down, 2 to go… Sorry.'
The level 2 Beowolf is next. Now wary of my potential, it moves towards me cautiously, snapping at my heels. All that gets it is a moment of confusion due to my Aura; not that kind, and a boot to the head.
[Beowolf: Hp: 90.6/100]
It snaps out of it's confusion, just as I get another kick in. I narrowly avoid a chomp at my foot, as I take a few steps towards the cliff side. 'I can't really get a hit in, but with Empowered Sprint active, neither can it… It'll be a stalemate soon, and level 3 might just join in. I need to level up my skills fast.'
Sooner than expected, Meditation levels up, causing the increase in Intellect and Wisdom to go from 10 percent to 20. The other 3 Skills level soon after, along with Unarmed Combat.

I should be able to defeat the level 2 Beowolf if I'm smart about it… Or rush and get 10 hits in. Yeah I'll go with that. Un-Menu?'
Reality goes back to normal, so Un-Menu works… 'It's probably intent based… Anyways.'
The Beowolf circles for a bit, then charges. Since that's what I'm waiting for, I barely manage to dodge. I then Joseph Joestar my way into 10 consecutive hits into the Beowolf's side. 'Ora Ora Ora.'
"Oh… and another one bites the dust." Every time is a good time for a reference to be made, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The Beowolf faded to dust before it even hit the ground.

I turn to glare at the remaining Beowolf. It smirks at me smugly. 'Why's it doing that? It shouldn't be able to read my level or anything, so- Oh don't you fucking dare-'
The shadows around the remaining Beowolf shift into there stable forms.

[An evolved Beowolf. Leader of it's pack. It's kind of pissed at you for killing some of it's members, but impressed all the same. Someone must hate you to bring an Alpha to you so early.]
"Yeah, nope!" I yell at the Beowolves. "I'm not fucking dealing with any of you today. Like, I've been here for a good 10 minutes or so and I'm already dealing with an Alpha! Fuck this shit! VOID Portal!"
I vanish back into the empty VOID, and sigh in relief, only to notice the Beowolves had come with me. "SYSTEM! The fuck is this baloney!"
[...No one has actually tried to escape the first combat by using the VOID portal before. It seems there are still some bugs not fixed. This will be fixed in the next Version, but for now, you will have to fight them here.]
The Beowolves look around the empty VOID in confusion, before focusing back on me, the only living thing in this dimension. I sigh at the ineptitude I just witnessed, and go into my fighting crouch. Instead, my body stills; a rouge thought passing through my head. I smirk.
"VOID Space: Dungeon (Zombie)."
The Beowolves and I appear in a run down, average-looking town from my Earth, not Remnant. We're on a thin street, store's lining up both sides of the road, no alley's in sight. The Beowolves huddle together at the strange displacement, forming a defensive circle, while I do my best to find an open space. The pure silence keeps us all on edge, but the horror inducing groans somehow make it worse. They slowly but surely grow louder and numerous, until a decaying corpse shifts around the bend.

[It's a Zombie, the lowest level of Undead cannon fodder. They have various appearances, but they're all pretty weak… for an Undead.]
Then there's 2, then 5, then 10. A horde of Zombie move at a crawling pace around the corner. There ends up to be 25 in total, all ranging from levels 1 to 5. The Beowolves shift their attention from me to the Undead. I raise my hands in mock-surrender and tilt my head towards the Undead. The Level 3 growls at me but the Alpha cuffs its head. It nods to me, then howls, charging the horde of the Undead. 4 and 5 follow, but 3 stays behind, staring at me with it's hateful glare. 'The Beowolves can handle the Undead… maybe not the boss, but that's fine. I'm using them as a distraction anyway. I've got a level 3 to kill, after-all.'

"Yeah… sure thing." I breathe slowly against the wall, the adrenaline finally leaving my body, when it probably shouldn't. "I think it's because of situations like this that every User tries to game the system… Even though I intellectually know that if I die, I'd get another choice, I'm still human. I have a normal sense of self-preservation, and I don't want to die!"
I watch on as the last 2 Beowolves slaughter the last 5 Zombies. It's fast and merciless… 'Did they have some kind of bond? Something beyond what the average animal would have? That might be interesting to study once I get strong enough to protect myself.'

The ground rumbles. It's faint, but still noticeable. The 2 Beowolves turn to where the other Zombies came from, and so do I. Before us stand a hideous abomination. The Level 5 Beowolf looks to me with an understanding expression, then goes off to protect it's pack leader.
So while the most badass battle I've ever seen takes places against 2 Beowolves and a Zombie abomination, I'm just gonna set here and meditate… Because what am I supposed to do against two level tens in their duel to the death. I can't be reasonably expected to actually deal with any of that kind of stuff at level 4.
So… yeah, Meditation levels up… twice
[Mp: 154/154|26.6/min]
It's a good improvement over the base 11 and 19 respectively… Still not enough to deal with those monsters.
Of course, we finally get to the final clash. It's been a solid hour of whittling health and weird noises, but it's nearly done. They're each on their hind legs, scratching and clawing at each other. Teeth bared, bodies in disrepair… And the the mighty Alpha Beowolf falls…
[Beowolf-Alpha Hp: 10/600]
[Zombie-Fusion Hp: 100/900]

I watch, frozen in awe as the Alpha uses it's last reserve of Mp to get inbetween the blow of the monster and it's last remaining Pack. Several known and unknown emotions alike swirl within my body, my mind, my soul… I close my eyes.
(^^)
I've never felt true anger before. Yeah, sure, I've been annoyed, and the hot, passionate anger behind that. I truly believed in some topics, and when people don't believe as I do, I get kinda pissed at them. I've read some articles about some pretty terrible people, but that anger's more of a disappointed anger. I've felt the beginning of an inescapable rage, the frozen glare of a cold vexation, the faint whispers behind an anger of madness.
This was something new.
It appears that a mixture behind the suppression of Gamer's Soul, the Calm Aura of Meditation, and my own personal experiences with wrath… have combined, in a sense of the word.
The unadulterated fury the passes through me is outstanding, but after a while of thought, I do figure out why.
Those Beowolves… they acted like a pack. A real pack. A family. I did have a family, they… they were the best, even if I treated them like I treated everyone else, with that cool near-apathetic look to keep myself safe from emotional harm.
I just realized I was never going to see my family again. Never. Not in a million years, not until the end of time. Maybe if I chose once to move on, but I have a small but strong saving people thing. I'm not selfish enough to put my own needs in front of others. I don't care about my own well-being enough to give up on anyone…
And that's okay.

"I wrote somewhere, that the concepts of duality where not meant to be enemies, only a scale. Two extremes neutered by the force of Balance." The last word comes out strange, causing both beings to whimper for some unknown reason, but I pay no attention.
"I was always a philosopher. I talked about what I thought about, even if there was no one to listen. I discussed topics and theories that I knew, but I didn't understand…I never truly understood, and that's okay."
