Prologue:

Rain poured in an apathetic shower on Kai Takaishi, he knelt alone with his busted digivice in hand as his tears joined the rain drops and crashing thunder drowned out his sorrow. He was struggling to come to terms with what was happening, anyone would.

It had started as another ordinary day in his life, he awoke with his partner Impmon and joined his twin sister Hikaru and her partner Renamon for breakfast. They were all going to the old summer camp where the first adventure had begun to celebrate the anniversary of Malomyotismon's defeat. He could feel a shift in the atmosphere as the adult digidestined had been summoned by the sovereign on urgent business, as they left he and the other children remained. Kai didn't think anything of it until the adults had returned, sent the other kids to primary village and told him of a prophecy that Impmon would turn evil and that he had to be destroyed before he could influence Kai negatively.

Everything happened in a blur from that moment on, Kai immediately protested and tried to stop him but it was all a fruitless endeavor. Impmon was destroyed and the adults had damaged Kai's digivice hoping it would be nonfunctional and keep him away from the primary village as well as Impmon's egg. The only one of the adults that had realised this was wrong was his uncle Tai, but in spite of being their leader, his reason fell on deaf ears.

As Kai continued to mourn, he subconsciously squeezed on his digivice and heard a faint beep from the machine. His eyes widened as he heard another beep, it was weak, but proof that his digivice still had some life left in it. A desperate plan began to form in the eleven year old's mind. His parents, Kari and TK, had no idea that his digivice still had power. He would wait until nightfall, take his parent's laptop, and get to primary village and find Impmon's egg, of course this was easier said than done, his digivice kept beeping and he knew that he wouldn't be able to mask the noise from the rest of the 'friends and family'.

Putting his plan into action, Kai hid the broken machine and returned to the cabins, by now the other kids had heard about what had happened. Hikaru looked to him in sympathy while the others muttered behind his back talking about his crest. Fingering the Crest of Darkness he wore around his neck Kai became angry but quickly calmed himself down, his desire to save Impmon was greater than his anger at the situation. Once everyone was asleep Kai snuck towards the cabin his parents were staying in, he froze when he felt someone tap on his shoulder. He turned around and came face to face with his uncle who sadly smiled at him and handed him the laptop he was looking for.

"Good luck, buddy" Tai quietly said "I don't know if your plan will work but you owe it to yourself and Impmon to try"

"How did you know?" Kai whispered back to him

"It's exactly what I would do in your place, it also helps that I was going to check on you and ended up hearing that digivice beeping" With that, Kai chuckled and nodded before making his way to where he hid the digivice. The plan was simple, get in, find Impmon's egg, and get out. Raising his digivice to the computer screen he whispered

"Digiport, open" Sparking could be heard from the digivice but something was wrong, he didn't feel like he was entering a digital gate, before he could rethink what he was doing, Kai was sucked into the portal leaving nothing but the laptop behind.

Meanwhile, in a parallel universe

The Federation starship Titan was en route to Deep Space 9 transporting a Bajoran diplomat home from a trade negotiation with the Ferengi. Travelling at Warp 8 the ship was calm and quiet as the crew performed their duties, Captain Will Riker couldn't figure out how much longer things would be calm and quiet. Ever since Romulus was destroyed in the Hobus supernova and the Romulan Star Empire was nothing more than a bygone memory with only the Tal Shiar and small remnants of the Star Navy remaining, the Klingon Empire had begun militarising and expanding at a rate unheard of since the first Federation-Klingon war had united the great houses. Starfleet and the Federation diplomatic corps were doing everything they could to preserve peace but anyone with a brain and a pulse could tell that another Federation-Klingon war was imminent. Captain Riker was pulled from his musings as he received a call on his combadge.

"Engineering to Captain Riker"

"Go ahead" Will acknowledged

"Sir, a strange hole opened and an eleven year old boy wearing 21st century clothing fell out of it."

"Transport him to sickbay, have Commander Shon and Deanna Troi meet me there"

"Aye, sir"

Arriving in sickbay, Captain Riker and Commander Shon were astonished to see the boy they had been alerted to lying unconscious on one of the beds, Deanna was already there talking to the chief medical officer.

"Captain" Deanna smiled as she greeted her husband

"Can you get a reading on this boy?" Riker asked

"Yes, he is in deep emotional pain, and there is a deep power radiating inside of him. It seems connected to the necklace he is wearing and the device that he had been holding."

"The device was sent off to the engineering lab, we have Ceril looking over it now. We tried to send the necklace as well, but we can't remove it." the chief medical officer reported as the boy stirred and began to wake up

"This isn't the digital world, where am I?" Kai asked

"You're aboard my ship," Riker replied, "the U.S.S. Titan"

"How?" Kai asked as he began to feel his heart sinking

"That's what we're trying to figure out" Riker shrugged "Along with why your clothing is centuries out of date"

"What?!" Kai exclaimed "How is that possible it's 2012"

"Actually it's 2400" Riker replied

"Captain" Commander Shon spoke up "What about the temporal prime directive?"

"He's already here, he sees us, he knows you're not human, and we have no idea how or even if we can send him home."

"He's got a point" the Chief Medical officer chuckled "Although if it makes you feel better Commander Shon, the temporal prime directive wouldn't truly apply anyway. I did a scan on him and everything checks out as perfect health except for his quantum signature, it's different from ours meaning-"

"He's from another universe" Commander Shon realised with wide eyes

"So I guess I'm stuck here" Kai sighed

"What's your name?" Captain Riker asked. As Kai answered he realised that his quest to save Impmon's egg was a failure deciding to build the best life he could here in this reality he looked up with determined eyes and answered

"I'm Kai Eclipse"
