Well folks, I'm back with a new fanfic, this time a reaction fanfic featuring the characters of Shokugeki no Soma or Food Wars if you wanna go with the English title. But I've decided to change it up a little and have the cast react to a movie, since I have yet to see one of those for this particular series.
Now since this is a "characters react" fanfic, I'm unsure on how I should proceed next, so I will post a poll on my profile on the style of how I should write it. I ask, because I have noticed that several of these types of fanfics are getting taken down from the site. So I will ask all of you that question before I continue this story. If I have to, I'll cross post it in Ao3 and Wattpad so that I can write the actual scenes from the movie. Until then, I will ask you, my readers, on what you think.
Disclaimer: I do not own Shokugeki no Soma or Ratatouille. Shokugeki no Soma is the property of Shonen Jump and Ratatouille is the property of Disney and Pixar.
It had been a tiring day for the students at the Polar Star Dormitories. It had been almost a week after defeating Erina's father, Azami, in the fight to reclaim Totsuki from him and his dictatorial methods of training the next generation of chefs. But now they had a weekend to themselves during this transition that Erina herself had instituted for all students, including herself (with some encouragement from Hisako and her grandfather). Trying out new recipes for future Food Wars was on a few of their minds, but Yuki had suggested that they had a movie night. With some thinking, the other dorm tenants agreed to that. Even Fumio, the dorm mother, agreed to that and said that the television in the dorm living room was open for that.
But now the tenants had another problem: deciding which movie to watch.
"No!" Yuki shouted as she looked at Daigo. "We are NOT watching an action movie! End of discussion!"
"Aww, c'mon Yuki!" Daigo protested. "As if watching a romcom is any better?"
"I am not gonna spend movie night watching some beefed up guy beating up bad guys and shooting them up!" Yuki argued.
"I'm with Yuki on this one," Zenji Marui said, adjusting his glasses. "I like an action movie as much as the next guy, but I think that since we're talking about a movie for everyone in the dorm don't you think we should watch one that doesn't have stuff like that?"
"How 'bout a horror movie?" Shoji suggested.
"No! Anything but that!" Megumi cried, hiding behind Ryoko as if she would protect her from the idea of it.
"Yeah, no." Ryoko said bluntly. "Bad idea Shoji."
"What do you think Soma?" Yuki asked the dorm's resident diner chef. "What movie do you think we should watch?"
Soma simply shrugged. "Anything works for me. I don't watch that many movies, even when I wasn't working at my family's diner."
"It figures." Yuki sagged but then turned to the school's new director, Erina Nakiri. "What about you Erina? Any suggestions?"
"Hmm…" Erina hummed, thinking about it. "Well, I don't know. I haven't seen that many movies and I don't exactly have a favorite either. But I have to agree that it shouldn't be a horror or action movie."
This same conversation continued back and forth for a while. Even Satoshi Isshiki, the eldest member of the dorms, had a few suggestions that were rejected. Fumio sighed as she watched the kids of her dorm, including Erina Nakiri's assistant Hisako, the Aldini brothers, and Mito Nikumi (who had all been invited to this movie night) continue to argue over what movie they should watch. But she also noticed that Megumi, after recovering from the suggestion of a horror movie, was trying to suggest something but kept getting interrupted every time she tried.
Deciding enough was enough, she cleared her throat, catching everyone's attention.
"If you kids can't decide on a movie, then we can forget movie night." She said to them. "In the meantime, I think Megumi has a suggestion."
All eyes turned to the blue-haired girl, who fiddled with her pigtails a little bit.
"W-well, there's one movie I liked to watch when I was a kid." She said. "I liked it so much that it was one of the reasons why I wanted to be a chef."
"So it's a movie that involves cooking?" Soma asked.
Megumi nodded. "Yes. I learned a few things about being a chef from this movie and how things work in the kitchen. I think it would be a good movie for all of us to watch."
"What's it called?" Ryoko asked.
"Well, it's called Remy's Delicious Restaurant (1) here in Japan. But they call it Ratatouille in America."
"Ratatouille?" Erina echoed the American title. "As in the French vegetable dish?"
Again Megumi nodded.
"Yes, in fact that very dish plays a pivotal part in the movie near the end."
"So what's it about?" Zenji asked.
"It's about a rat named Remy, he lives in France and wants to be a cook." Megumi explained.
This caused Hisako and Erina to raise their eyebrows skeptically.
"A rat that wants to cook?" Hisako asked with some disgust in her tone.
"It's an animated movie!" Megumi quickly amended. "It's all completely fiction, but it's a really good movie."
"Well, I'm interested." Soma said with a grin. "If Megumi thinks it's a good movie, I don't see why we can't watch it."
"While I doubt that a rat could never possibly be a good cook," Erina said, crossing her arms. "I suppose I should give this movie a watch."
Everyone else made their contributions and unanimously agreed to watch it. Excited, Megumi ran up to her room and came back a few minutes later with her Blu-ray copy of the movie that she brought with her when she moved into the dorms. By the time she put the disc into the Blu-ray player, everyone was seated in front of the television either on two of the couches or on the floor. Fumio herself sat into her personal chair that she kept in the room and had made it clear that no one would sit in.
Once everyone was seated, Megumi grabbed the remote and pressed play.
And that's the intro chapter! Now depending on the poll, I will see how I will proceed with the cast's reactions to the movie.
1. This is the actual title of Ratatouille in Japan. I don't know why they call it that in Japan, but who am I to judge?
