"Your phone is buzzing like crazy, babe." Kirishima said with a mirth filled voice which turned into a full belly laugh when his blonde boyfriend grunted in frustration and snuggled closer to him. But even Kirishima's boisterous laughter couldn't mask the incessant buzzing of Bakugo's phone.
With an agitated growl, Bakugo leapt out of his warm, comfortable cocoon and grabbed his phone. He reeled his arm back and was about to slam the already tattered and cracked phone into the nearby wall. But he stopped cold when he saw the name flashing on his screen.
Kirishima watched in awe as his temperamental boyfriend of almost a year just let out an annoyed 'tch' before replying to the mystery person.
"Woah! Bro! You didn't crash your phone into the wall this time! My poor wall was also beginning to sport a few battle injuries ya know!" Kirishima said with a laugh as he wrapped his arms around the blondes slim waist. Bakugo answered with a noncommittal grunt before going back to typing.
Kirishima's eyes widened in surprise at the gesture. Bakugo usually hated anyone interrupting their cuddle time.
'Round Face' The caller ID read when the curious redhead peeked over his boyfriend's shoulder.
"Is Uraraka alright?" Maybe the brunette needed some help with homework or something. Again Bakugo just shrugged before going back to his typing.
Kirishima desperately wanted to know what they were talking about but he was too much of a gentleman to intrude so he just untangled himself from the blonde.
"You seem busy... I'll come back tomorrow Suki! Goodnight!" Kirishima said with a bright smile before leaning in and pecking his boyfriend on the lips. Bakugo finally let go of his phone and slid his freed hand into loose red locks. Pulling his redhead closer to himself.
Kirishima was surprised yet again as he parted his lips to properly kiss his partner. Deep kisses weren't particularly rare between the couple but Bakugo was hardly ever the instigator.
Kirishima watched Bakugo as the blonde stared at him with a look so full of longing. The redhead's eyebrows furrowed in worry and he slid his thumb over Bakugo's reddened cheek gently.
"Bakubabe... Is everything alright?" Kirishima asked softly. Bakugo seemed to be warring with himself about something as his eyes flickered between Kirishima's and back towards his phone. An almost guilty expressed flashed on Bakugo's face before he shook his head.
"Nothing's wrong, Shitty Hair." Bakugo gruffed out before pulling away slightly.
Kirishima wanted to argue with the blonde but he also respected his boyfriend's boundaries so he just nodded and pressed a lingering kiss on Bakugo's cheek before exiting the room.
Kirishima tried very hard to stop thinking about that weird exchange. But his mind was spectacular at doing exactly the opposite of his wishes. Torturing him with endless doubts and worries. The biggest one being;
I thought I'd get more time with him before he broke things off.
Kirishima was often described as an optimistic boy but he considered himself to be a realist. He knew that as much as he loved Bakugo, what they had couldn't last. He could never consider himself good enough to be with someone as strong and manly as Bakugo. If anything, he was just happy to get the chance to be with the beautiful blonde boy.
That was what Kirishima had had in mind when he had confessed to his straight friend. The redhead had honestly expected a brutal 'hell no'. But instead, Bakugo had turned slightly red and said that he would think about it before whacking him on the head for getting a math question wrong.
The next day Bakugo proposed that they try to go out and see where the relationship goes. That had been and probably will be one of the best days Kirishima would ever experience in his lifetime. He hadn't been able to stop smiling all day, somehow managing to grin even wider when he noticed Bakugo's red-tipped ears.
They'd figured out everything together, giving their first kisses and first times to each other. And as their relationship progressed, Kirishima began dreading the day they'd have to say goodbye all the more.
He recalled the guilt in Bakugo's expression and physically winced, as he tried to curl into a ball on his bed. It was all happening far sooner than he was prepared for. He'd thought he'd at least have one more month with his boyfriend before having to say goodbye at their graduation party. He'd even picked out a thank you card and red silk tie to give Bakugo so the fiery blonde could have something to remember him by.
His spiralling thoughts were interrupted by a loud rumble. Kirishima patted his stomach, the source of the rumbles, and decided to get some food. He didn't want to wake Shoji and Bakugo at 2:00 am with his loudly rumbling tummy.
Kirishima crept down the stairs, using his hero training to make sure he made no sound at all. He was slightly surprised when he saw light streaming out of the kitchen, accompanied by quiet muttering. Kirishima purposefully walked a bit louder, not wanting to startle anyone. Startling people in the hero course always ended with bruises and sprains or in extreme cases even fractures.
Kirishima's bright grin dimmed when he saw the object of his frustrations standing next to a brunette girl. Bakugo had frozen mid-sip, his mug hanging in the air while Uraraka seemed to be redder than usual, averting her eyes from Kirishima's.
"Um... Hey guys...?" Kirishima asked with a furrowed eyebrow as he made his way towards the fridge and pulled out a jar of jam and peanut butter.
"Babe, how're you still awake?" Kirishima asked, feeling a slight bite of the green-eyed monster when he recalled all the times Bakugo had refused to do things with him to adhere to his sleep schedule.
"Coffee..." Bakugo mumbled, his wilder sleep hair swayed as he hastily sucked up the rest of the contents of his mug.
But was his hair more mussed only cause he just woke up? Kirishima's brain supplied, making the redhead shortcircuit.
His hands had unknowingly stopped in the middle of putting his sandwich together. His mind exploring sickening images of Bakugo and Uraraka together.
He flinched like he had been slapped when he felt familiar warm hands on his shoulders. Jerking away harshly.
"Oi. What's your deal Shitty Hair? I've called out your name 3 times." Bakugo said, the slight tilt of his mouth indicating his worry. Kirishima looked at Bakugo with wide, spooked eyes before willing a smile onto his face.
"The great Bakugo-sama called me by my name and I missed it! What a waste, eh Uraraka!" Kirishima said as he grabbed his sandwich and tucked all the ingredients back into their rightful places, cheering in his head when he managed to get the sentence out without his voice shaking.
Uraraka gave Kirishima a sweet smile and laughed a little.
"Shut up Shitty Hair! I've called you by your name before." Bakugo argued, but the worried tilt didn't disappear and became more noticeable when he came closer.
"You alright, Ei? You usually sleep like the dead." Bakugo said in a low voice and Kirishima had to fight his tears.
I don't want this to end. A part of him desperately cried. But he couldn't be that selfish.
So, he just pulled his caring boyfriend into his arms for a tight hug, exhaling contently when he felt the blonde return his hug.
"I should be asking you that? You hate staying up so late." Kirishima asked in the same tone and froze when he felt the blonde in his arms stiffen up.
"Round Face wanted to talk." Bakugo offered before extracting himself from Kirishima's arms. Kirishima glanced at the two teenagers again before summoning another grin and taking a big bite of his sandwich.
"Well, I-I won't hold ya'll back! Enjoy your chat!" Kirishima spat out, the food in his mouth helping to muffle his choked up voice.
"Ugh. Finish eating then talk." Bakugo said with a slightly quirked lip and Kirishima grinned back before kissing Bakugo's cheek with his cheeks full of bread and fist-bumping Uraraka.
"Goo'night!" Kirishima spat out before retreating up the stairs and to the comfort of his room where he could break down in peace.
During the next week, Kirishima's gaze unknowingly followed every conversation Bakugo and Uraraka had in class. And by the time Sunday had arrived he was honestly done acting like the pathetic boyfriend who was probably getting cheated on and decided to face his boyfriend like a man.
"I don't know how to say this tactfully or whatever so I'm just going to come out and say it. Do you like Uraraka?" Bakugo spat his drink out, wetting the floor of his dorm room and his history textbook that laid open. They had been going over History questions before Kirishima had dropped this particular bomb.
"W-What the fuck?" Bakugo coughed out as he dabbed a paper napkin on his face and another on the textbook.
"You-you've been very distant lately. And even cancelled cuddle time to text her. Then you both are standing in the kitchen at 2 am on a Saturday night with your hair all messed up in the cute way that it gets when you either sleep poorly or we make out. You talk to her more than anyone else in class after me and even laugh with her. Like proper full belly laugh. I can't even remember the last time you did that with me Kats..." Kirishima said, tears gathering at the corners of his eyes.
"Ei..." Bakugo muttered in shock and tried to hold his boyfriend's hand but Kirishima pulled his hand away.
"I just need to get all this out Suki..." Kirishima finally looked up from glaring at the table with teary eyes and stared at Bakugo, leaving his soul bare for the blonde to see.
"I l-love you Su-Suki... So fucking much and-and... Oh God... I just want you to be happy. A-and if the person to make you happy isn't me then I will let you go. But please Tell me first ok? C-cause I-I'll need some time to p-prepare myself and please Suki... Just tell me if I don't make you happy anymore or you can't be with me cause you want to focus on your hero work or whatever! I just want for you what y-you want for yours-self and i-if I'm not in it then that's just h-how it goes I g-guess..." Kirishima was sobbing by the time he finished talking. Hugging himself tightly.
"Can I touch you now, Ei?" Bakugo's rough voice cut through the redhead's sobs.
Kirishima nodded hesitantly and melted into the rough warm arms encircling his shivering frame.
"You make me the fucking happiest I've ever been, Ei. I-I understand why you could misunderstand but Round Face was just coming to me cause she wanted to rant about fucking Deku even 6 fucking months after their breakup. Cries bucket loads of water each time too." Bakugo said as he raked his hands through familiar red locks. He fisted a handful of red hair and pulled a tear-filled face from between thick arms.
"Fucking listen to me Eijiro Kirishima. No one makes me as happy as you do. Hell! I probably wouldn't be where I am today, who I am, if it wasn't for you. You've saved me so many times. I'll never like anyone else like I like you." Bakugo said soothingly before pressing a quick peck on his boyfriend's salty lips earning him a small smile for his efforts.
"I love you, Bakugo. So much." The redhead said in way of response as he snuggled into Bakugo. Bakugo blushed a slight pink and grunted, History homework long forgotten.
Kirishima skipped back to the UA dorms, a bright grin on his face.
It was everyone's final week at UA Academy. "The week for many endings and new beginnings" All Might had dubbed it. The students had completed their final exams the day before and were embroiled in packing up the last of their things. Almost half the class had already left for their new jobs and were scattered all over Japan.
Kirishima's grin didn't diminish even as he entered the lobby and noticed the distinct lack of footwear in the shoe rack, or when he walked down the hallway that was seldom empty. He was more focused on racing towards his boyfriend's room. Another thought that filled Kirishima with joy.
Bakugo hadn't left him even 2 days after graduation.
He stopped in his tracks when he heard the familiar voice of his blonde boyfriend saying his name.
"-bring it up with Kirishima? He was sobbing cause he thought I wanted to break up with him! How was I supposed to tell him I was fucking terrified about the fucking backlash that goes with being with a man in our shitty ass society." Kirishima peeked into the common room and saw Bakugo pacing in front of an exasperated Uraraka, flinging his hands about as he usually did when he was agitated.
"Then what? You want to fucking break up with him? Bakugo. STOP BEING A BABY! You've been worrying about this ever since you found out about the public's reaction to Aizawa-sensei's marriage to Mic-sensei, 2 MONTHS AGO! So either man up and talk to Kirishima or break up with him!" Uraraka huffed.
"He was kicked down to fucking 27th at the height of his career cause he was fucking gay! How do you expect me to not be worried?!" Bakugo screeched.
"We've been having the same discussion for so long Bakugo. You fucking know you can be in a hetero relationship if you want... You also know you can be in a secret relationship with him if you want? Right now you only have three options. Break up with him, say fuck the public or making him your fucking dirty little secret." Uraraka glared slightly at the blonde who had been whining about the same thing for weeks.
"I... I don't want to break up with him... But I don't know... This is just a fucking lot..." Bakugo sighed as he sunk into the couch next to Uraraka.
"Just Fucking TALK to him you big baby...-" Uraraka was cut oFf by All Might's booming voice.
"Kirishima-shounen, What're you doing? Are you alright?" Bakugo and Uraraka's heads whipped up to see a guilty looking redhead peel himself off the wall and nod at All Might.
"I-*ahem* I'm fine, All Might-sensei... And Bakugo... I think we need to talk so come up to my room ok?" Kirishima finished with a bright grin, his eyes seemed to be glued shut.
Uraraka blinked in surprise at the redhead's reaction and glanced at Bakugo worriedly, but the blonde had noticed the tremor in his boyfriend's built shoulders, the slight shaking of his thick fingers.
He looked back at Uraraka in thinly veiled panic, opening his mouth to say something but no words would come out.
"WHAT are you waiting for! Go after him!" Uraraka yelled after a long few moments of watching Bakugo mimic a fish. That pulled Bakugo out of his funk and he raced up the stairs.
"Are those two ok? Kirishima-shounen looked very pale." All Might asked the brunette girl. Uraraka just sighed and collapsed into the plush couch.
"I don't know, All Might-sensei. I really hope they will be."
Bakugo threw the door open, panting slightly as he watched his boyfriend folding in the last of his clothes. He also noticed an envelope and tie neatly placed on the dresser.
"Ei... Um... So how much did you hear?" Bakugo winced the minute the words were out of his mouth, but Kirishima's short bark of laughter startled him out of his self-loathing.
"You'd better get better with your communication skills if you wanna land a girl Bakugo." Kirishima said with his back still turned, busying his hands with the rhythmic process of folding and packing.
Bakugo felt like he'd been slapped in the face. He gaped at Kirishima, shocked about the genuineness of the statement along with the use of his last name.
"H-Hey l-look... Ei... You know how much I like you... I-I just..." Bakugo looked at the red head's back helplessly. He didn't know how to even begin articulating his thoughts and feelings about this. But as usual, his partner jumped right in to his rescue.
"Do you see a future with me Bakugo? Cause I was just th-*ahem*-thinking about it..." Kirishima began as he finally zipped up his final duffle bag.
"Every time we talked about the future it was just me rambling on like an idiot." Kirishima's self-deprecating laugh shook Bakugo to his core but he didn't know what else to do but stare at the floor in shame.
"I remember how I wanted a 2 bedroom house with an open floor plan and at least 2 rescue dogs... You wanted us to increase it to a 3 bedroom tho, a storage room you said... You know I'd even imagined our adopted kids. Man, I was so fucking delusional... You've never even said you loved me and I got so carried away..." Kirishima finally let his tears fall, but stubbornly held onto his smile.
Bakugo felt his heart crumble in his chest as his eyes widened in realisation. He'd always thought his actions were enough to show Kirishima how much he loved him. All the breakfasts in bed or crimson riot movie marathons? Hell, he'd even gone crocs shopping with the redhead once. But he'd never said the words...
And cause of his massive fuck up Kirishima thought he didn't love him...
"Ei... no! Look I do!" Bakugo began but Kirishima cut him off by placing a gentle hand on his mouth.
"No Bakugo... You don't babe... And that's ok, I get it... Just don't lie to me about this." Kirishima couldn't bring himself to look at Bakugo so he glanced away, letting his thick arm flop down.
"I... um... I wanted to tell you that Fat offered me a-um-a job... It's in Shinjuku so it's pretty far from where you'll be working, don't worry. I was supposed to leave tomorrow, b-but um there's a train today at 3. It'll pay to get a headstart, don't you think?" Kirishima said as he picked up the last of his belongings, he'd shipped most of his stuff back to his mum's place a while back.
Kirishima took a moment to take in the room that he'd spent 3 years of his life in, observing the little scratches and marks he and his friends had left behind. He then approached the dresser and picked up the two items he didn't think he'd actually be needing after Graduation was over.
"I wanted you to have something to remember me by when we broke up..."
Kirishima said as he took Bakugo's soft hands in his own, placing the gifts in them.
Kirishima brought up one hand to his lips kissing it softly before placing his forehead head on Bakugo's.
"You didn't do this man... You didn't make this decision, I did. I was the one who forced you into this relationship in the first place... So don't beat yourself up about it. You're going to be the number 1 hero and I will never become the anchor that holds you down. You're meant to fucking fly Suki." Kirishima said softly as he pulled away from his blonde boyfriend, well ex-boyfriend now.
"Goodbye, Bakugo... Feel free to drop by if you ever come to Shinjuku."
Bakugo was shocked stiff for a solid 10 minutes before his brain finally allowed him to unpack the emotional moment he'd just had.
'...it was just me rambling on like an idiot.'
'You don't babe.'
'...something to remember me by when we broke up...'
'...forced you into this relationship...'
'Goodbye, Bakugo...'
Bakugo could feel his heart shattering as his brain tried to process what just happened. Slowly the disjointed pieces in his head began making sense again.
Kirishima thought Bakugo didn't want a future with him.
He thought Bakugo didn't love him.
He fucking prepared something to give Bakugo WHEN they broke up.
He though Bakugo was going to break up with him...
Kirishima left Bakugo.
The one thought that blazed in the front of his brain was the sight of Kirishima walking past him and out the door with tears streaming down his face.
Bakugo blinked out of his daze and glanced at the barren room he stood in. A room without Kirishima. There was no stupid muscle clock hanging on the wall, no army comforter, no random hoodie flung on the chair. It was just lifeless.
And Bakugo couldn't live like that.
He couldn't give up on the childish dream he had of him giving a speech as the number one hero while Kirishima sat in the audience with their daughter, cheering and clapping. A simple tungsten ring gleaming on the redheads finger. He couldn't give up on their 3 bedroom home or their future dogs.
He couldn't give up on Kirishima.
This thought finally spurred the blonde into action. He bolted out of the barren room and came across All Might as he dashed into the common floor.
"Might-sensei, Do you know where Kirishima is?" Bakugo panted out.
"Kirishima-shounen, sprinted out the door crying and tore off on his bike. Is everything ok?" All Might asked worriedly, but Bakugo had already busted through the front doors. Half flying and half running.
He continued on, flying out of the front gates of UA as well, before spotting Kirishima's red bike. He could make out the quivering of his boyfriend's (Bakugo refuses to call Kirishima his ex. Ever) shoulders, as he got closer and closer to the redhead.
"EIJIRO!" The Blonde yelled as he flew over a couple cars and landed on the footpath. Kirishima's head shwivelled in shock at his name being called out by a familiar voice. He veered as close to the sidewalk as he could before pulling to a stop. A lot of civilians had also pulled their phones out, excitedly taking pictures of the heroes Red Riot and Dynamite (GZ).
Kirishima blanched and immediately wiped his tears away, slinging a friendly arm around his ex.
"Hey Bakubro! What do you need?" Kirishima asked as cheerfully as he could even though he was dying a little on the inside.
"No." Bakugo said as he pulled away from the half hug. He then raised the items Kirishima had gotten him and exploded them. Kirishima felt another tear slide down when he saw that.
"Wow. Y-you could've just said you didn't want it... You wanna forget about me that badly?" Kirishima asked sadly, turning to rest against his bike. He suddenly felt his face being encompassed by soft, sweetly scented hands. The redhead looked up at Bakugo, his lips parted in shock. And Bakugo was never one to let an opportunity of by. He tilted the Kirishima's head slightly before gently kissing him. Pouring every ounce of love and affection he couldn't verbalise into the kiss.
Kirishima's eyes widened in shock as he pulled his Katsuki closer to himself by the waist. He could faintly hear the gasps and cheers of the public but at that moment he had more important things to pay attention to. The pair of young lovers pulled apart completely flushed and out of breath.
"B-Bakugo..." Kirishima muttered out in utter confusion as he looked at Bakugo with puffy red-rimmed eyes. Bakugo gently rubbed a finger over a puffy eye.
"Yes, I want a fucking 3 bedroom. But not for storage. I want to have a fucking child with you Shitty hair... I want everything you fucking want and more. You knew we'd break up? You fucking forced me to be in a relationship? Who the fuck do you think you are? I do whatever the fuck I want and I want to spend the rest of my fucking life with you! You fucking think you're, what, holding me down or some shit? You dickwad, you're why I am who I am! You made me fucking capable of loving someone!" Kirishima gasped at the last part, glancing into Bakugo's eyes to ascertain the legitimacy of his claim. But He couldn't find any signs of deceit in the Vermillion orbs, only sincerity.
The 18-year-old gulped nervously and pulled back.
"We can stop right now, Suki. We can say it was just a dare or something! I-if this becomes the reason you don't become the number 1 hero... You'll resent me for it. I can live with being your friend but not you hate me for stealing your future..." Kirishima said tearfully, resting his forehead on his love's shoulder.
"Stop trying to give me an out dickwad! Becoming the number 1 hero is always going to be my goal but I'm going to get that title on my own terms. I'm not going to be a fucking pussy and lose the best thing in my life. Being number 1 is my future... but so are you Ei... I love you too fucking much for me to even consider any other options." Kirishima choked out a laugh at the Bakugo-like response.
"I love you too, Suki... So much..." Kirishima said with a blinding grin growing on his tear covered face.
"You could've at least kept the tie though... It was kinda expensive." Kirishima teased lightly making Bakugo groan.
"Fuck your tie Shitty Hair. Now get your ass moving, have to make sure everyone in Shinjuku knows you're fucking taken." Bakugo said gruffly as he pulled out of their embrace and sat on the bike while Kirishima looked at him in astonishment.
"You're coming with me?" The red head asked before sniffling loudly, his nose and cheeks almost the same colour as his hair while his eyes still remained wide open.
Bakugo glanced at the excited expression the redhead was sporting and a rare soft smile filled his face.
"Of course I am Ei. I'll have to buy somethings before we reach there though." Bakugo had barely finished his sentence when he was crushed in between two thick arms.
"Heck Yes! Holy shit! I'm going to introduce you to everyone there! They're gonna love you so much! Not as much as I do but still!" Kirishima chirped excitedly before pulling away and swinging his leg over the bike and revving the engine.
Bakugo chuckled at his puppy-like boyfriend before swatting him on the head.
"You sappy cheese-ball." He gruffed out through his chuckles making Kirishima's grin grow even wider as he sped towards the train station, barely even noticing the numerous phones pointed in their direction.
As it turned out, Bakugo didn't even need to go to Shinjuku to proclaim his existence.
A youtube video depicting their moment, tears and all, had gone viral. Garnering millions of views in a single day, a number that didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.
Kirishima couldn't stop grinning as he read through the comments, the overwhelming support pouring in was so unexpected to both the pro heroes.
Bakugo had taken to grinning softly and giving obnoxious replies when Kirishima (who was cuddled against the explosive hero) read out his favourite comments to the blonde man.
"Another win for the dynamic duo, Dynamite and Red Riot. The currently number 2 pro hero Dynamite and his husband, the number 7 pro hero Red Riot managed to rescue 28 hostages being held by bank robbers last night..."
"Rene! Turn that off please and come eat! We have grandma Mitsuki's chicken Parmasean~" Kirishima called out for their 8-year-old daughter who insisted on watching the news every time her fathers were mentioned for their heroic feats.
"Come on brat! You have the real thing right here!" Bakugo said with a grin as he scooped up the little girl and began tickling her, eliciting loud giggles.
"But you both look so much cooler there!" Rene snarked as he poked her tiny tongue out at her father, glancing over to her papa who was dressed in a frilly red apron as he pulled the chicken parm out of the oven.
"Oh reallly!" Bakugo said with an evil grin before tickling the undersides of her feet, the most ticklish spot on her body.
Kirishima laughed at the familiar scene in front of him as he placed a couple plates and cups on the table as well.
The past 20 years with Katsuki had been the most fulfilling of his entire life. They definitely had their challenges with the minor but always present homophobia, to their very busy lives as pro heroes, but they always managed to overcome every problem life offered.
They had built their own hero agency DynoRiot from the ground up, adopted the most beautiful baby girl and 2 dogs. They'd also built a gorgeous homely 3 bedroom house with their own hands, and lost of help from their friends. And Katsuki had finally realised his dream to be the number 1 hero multiple times. The number 1 hero rank fluctuated between pro-hero Deku and Dynamit every year. The public had taken to calling both of them their number 1 hero.
At age 38 the couple had fulfilled almost all the dreams they'd drawn out for themselves in high school. But every time they accomplished one dream they would just dream up another...
Humans really are incredibly greedy creatures. Kirishima thought with a chuckle as he ushered his husband and daughter their dining table.
Now their dream was to watch over their beautiful little girl as she grew up to be the amazing women they knew she'd become.
And after that dream was fulfilled maybe they could retire and grow old together in the house they built.
Or they could just dream up something else.
