No one in the intelligence unit would argue that the case that they just closed was their toughest one yet. The sky outside the district was already dark by the time they finished the paperwork they did for the case. "You guys can go. I can clear up the board," Jay offered as he just had desk duty for the day since he was just on his tenth day of recovery from a gunshot wound that almost cost him his life. Everyone's tired eyes turned to Jay and all they could do to respond to his offer was a nod. They all got their coats and made their way downstairs to head home. "I'm gonna stay," Jay hears Hailey's soft voice echo through the now silent bullpen. This made him turn around to find Vanessa by Hailey's desk. Being too exhausted and wanting sleep more than anything, Vanessa gave her best friend a nod as she zipped up her coat. She quickly made her way down the stairs to try and hitch a ride home with Kevin. Now, Jay and Hailey were the only ones left upstairs. The blonde stood up from her seat and walked towards the crime board. "You should rest," Jay suggested with concern in his voice. He knew how tired she was just from working this case. She shouldn't be staying for him. "I'm good," Hailey says as she starts to take the pictures off the board and placing it into a storage box on Jay's desk. He watched her tired body move from the board to the table. "Hailey…" The brunette starts to say, but he quickly stopped when he watched Hailey turn and face him. "You were just shot, Jay. I'm helping you," Hailey says in a stern voice that didn't allow any room for argument.

Jay was recovering from a gunshot wound, not blindness. He could clearly see that something was bothering Hailey. He had an idea of what was bothering her, but he decided not to jump to conclusions. "Alright," Jay says as he puts his right arm up in surrender. Both detectives did their tasks in silence, while stealing glances at the other when they were not looking. After a while, they finally finished. Jay picked his coat up from his chair and tried to put it on with one arm. "You know, I can help you, right? Cause that's a thing between us? We help each other out," Hailey says as she helps Jay with his coat. "It's more of you doing the helping rather than me," Jay says with a bashful smirk on his face. Hailey just smiled at him as she finished helping Jay. As a result of Hailey's helping hand, both their bodies were just inches away from each other. The two felt the heat that radiated from the other's body. The atmosphere of the room was filled with an unfamiliar tension that drew them to each other. At the same time, their eye contact intensified. Before she finds herself drowning in his viridian eyes, Hailey cleared her throat and gathered her composure. "You're not driving with one arm, I'll give you a ride home," she offered. "Ok," Jay shyly agreed as he looked at his desk pretending to check anything that he might leave behind before they go. "You good?" she asks. "Yeah," he replied, nodding his head as he shrugged off the warmth that slowly coursed through his chest.

After a while, Hailey and Jay were on the road on their way to Jay's place. The ride was quiet. The feeling Jay felt was still there, he couldn't seem to let it go. He was in the passenger seat beside the driver's where his partner was in. As Hailey focused her attention on the road ahead, The man couldn't help but steal quick glances at the woman who made his stomach churn with butterflies. His confusion grew as he started questioning himself again. Ever since his stay in the hospital, he kept getting this feeling inside of him. A feeling that keeps drawing him to Hailey. Why was he feeling this way? Weren't he and Hailey just partners? As Jay continued to question himself, he didn't seem to realize that Hailey just parked her car by his place. Hailey turned the ignition off and looked at Jay by the passenger seat. "You ok? Does your shoulder hurt? I could drive you to the hospital if it does," Hailey asked with concern in her voice as she saw Jay's troubled look. Her mind just suddenly dived into all the negative possibilities of why he looked so troubled. "I'm good," he reassured her. This didn't convince Hailey at all. She looked at Jay while still being worried that something was bothering him and he's just not telling her. "Alright," Hailey said as she turned to open her door. "What are you doing?" Jay asked with a hint of panic in his voice. He didn't know why he was panicking at even the slightest. He just knew that Hailey was getting out of her car to go up to his place with him.

"Jay, I'm helping you," Hailey says as the nagging voice in her head continued to tell her to help the man in front of her.. It wasn't the pressure of being partners that made her feel like she needed to help him. Instead, it felt as something that she was supposed to do naturally. She couldn't put into words but helping Jay just felt so right and brought a different kind of warmth to her heart. Maybe it was already like that ever since before, but she just didn't see it. "Hailey," the said man snapped her out of her thoughts. The look on his face told her she doesn't have to do it, but Hailey didn't let him finish as she says, "I'm helping you, end of story." Then, she quickly got out of the car and walked around it to the passenger side. She opened the door for the brunette and they both made eye contact. "This makes me feel very vulnerable," Jay confessed. Hailey smiled as she moved aside to let Jay out of the car. Once they got up to Jay's place, Hailey immediately started helping Jay around the house. She hung their coat by the rack and made her way to the kitchen. "Hailey, you don't have to do that," Jay says as he watches Hailey go through his cupboards and refrigerator in search of food for dinner. Hailey stops hustling around the kitchen and turns to glare at him to stop worrying about her. Jay only sighed in defeat and made his way to the refrigerator. He opened it and took two beers out. He opened one and handed it to Hailey. "You know we can just get take out," Jay suggested. Hailey gave him another annoyed look, but her eyes showed the real story. Her eyes that she would stick with him no matter how much he tried to make her go away. They showed him feelings that she refused to convey. Sentiments that leaked out from the box she seemed to lock them in. This only fed his curiosity and longed for an answer to the questions that swirled in his head.

After Hailey ordered their food, she and Jay sat on his couch with a beer on each of their hands. Hailey watched as Jay switched the channels on the TV as he tried to find a show that Hailey would like. She stole glances at him when he wasn't looking. Now, she was looking at Jay. She observed how his facial structures moved. She noticed how his brows seemed to furrow a bit as he concentrated on choosing a show for them to watch. She began to notice how his hairstyle of being slicked back, suited him very well. Her eyes travelled from his eyes to his thin lips. Unconsciously, she wondered of the sensation of his lips on hers. Would it be soft and gentle? Would it be fiery and passionate? Or would it just feel like a whirlwind of emotions? Her eyes grew wide as she just realized what she was thinking. It was real. The feeling she felt in the hospital when Vanessa told her 'it's because you love him', it was real. It was love. With the moment of epiphany that she was stuck in, the world around her became a haze. While Hailey tried to digest this new knowledge, Jay finally found a show. Hailey found herself staring at a wide smile from the man she held strong feelings for. She was sure he was proud of finally finding a show that she would like, but she couldn't help feel a growing warmth in her chest seeing the way his eyes crinkled when he wide-eyed staring at him. "Hey, you ok?" Jay asks. His smile disappeared and was immediately replaced with a worried look. Hailey was brought out of her thoughts by Jay's question. 'She lightly shook her head and said, "Yeah, I'm good."

"Hailey, I'm not blind," Jay countered. "Yeah, sure, you're not," Hailey replied. Frustration took over Jay. He was annoyed at how adamant she was in hiding the thing that seemed to be bothering her. "Hailey." Jay stated with a serious tone and stared deep into her cerulean eyes. Hailey couldn't stop the shivers she felt that ran through her spine as she heard the way her name rolled off his mouth. Hailey hesitated. She didn't want to ruin what she had with Jay. Despite all her fears, she knew she wouldn't be able to keep these feelings to herself with the way Jay looked at her with utmost didn't want to waste any more time telling Jay this. The phone ringing at the hospital already took an opportunity from her, so she decided not to wait anymore. Life was too short to wait, especially for them. "I'm in love with you, Jay," Hailey confessed. The room went quiet. Hailey waited for Jay's response to her blunt confession. Her anxiety started to grow as each moment passed of Jay just being silent. As Jay gets over his initial shock at Hailey's confession, and says, "I guess I'm really blind to not see how much I also care about you." Hailey chuckles at Jay's response, "I guess we both were." There was a sudden awkwardness between the two. The sound of the doorbell broke the tension between the two as their food arrived. "I'll get it," Hailey says as she gets up from the couch and makes her way to the door. She gave the delivery a tip and closed the door. Jay was getting up from the couch as he followed Hailey over to the kitchen. Hailey placed the food on the counter as she watched Jay approach her. Both her hands were on the counter, keeping her from giving into her burning desire to just run up to Jay and crush her lips against his.

All of a sudden, Hailey felt Jay's soft touch on her left hand. Her eyes grew wide with his touch, then their eyes met. Both had the same intense desire as the other. They both wanted the same thing and they knew that. Jay's hand travelled up to Hailey's face as he tucked a loose strand of her golden hair behind her ear. "I was dumb for waiting too long," Jay confessed. "Yeah, you were," Hailey teased back as her body slowly relaxed, knowing that Jay felt the same way. Jay moved closer and then his lips finally met Hailey's. Hailey set the food aside and hopped onto the counter as she and Jay continued giving into their desire. Their lips met again as their lust for each other grew, their tongues danced for dominance. Jay then moved to give butterfly kisses on Hailey's neck. As Hailey blushed on the sudden contact on her neck, she suddenly pushed Jay away. Jay stared at her in confusion, wondering if he did something wrong. "How about the food?" Hailey mumbled with her hands on his chest. "The food can wait," Jay says with a smirk, then he gave a soft peck on Hailey's cheek. As Jay tried to lift Hailey from the counter, Hailey burst into fits of laughter as they both realized that Jay couldn't carry her with just one arm. "I told you, you can't do stuff with one arm. You need my help," Hailey teased as she hopped off the counter, took Jay's hand, and brought him into the bedroom. The dark night sky took its time to turn into a bright sunny day.

The next morning, Jay slowly stirred to life as he felt the heat of the morning sun touch his bare chest. He moved his right arm around on the bed, but his eyes suddenly opened when he didn't feel Hailey by his side. "Hail?" he calls out with a groggy voice. He looked around his room and found no sign of Hailey. He got up from his bed and saw the clothes on the floor making a path to the bed. He spots his boxers on the floor and puts it on. He made his way out of the room and he immediately saw Hailey in the kitchen. She was wearing his shirt from last night. "Hey," Jay greeted Hailey. "Good morning, chuckles," Hailey says with her signature smile on her face. Jay chuckles and asks, "Platt tell you that?" Hailey smiled and nodded, "It's cute." Jay finally arrived in the kitchen and he could finally see what Hailey was cooking. Eggs and bacon, his favorite. He leaned by her side. "I'm cute," Jay says. "Yeah, you are," Hailey smiled as she agreed.
