Warm sunlight peeked through the thin bedroom curtains as they brushed the smooth skin of a man laying on his bare chest. He slowly began to toss and turn on the soft mattress until his eyes began to flutter open. His right hand patted the right side of the bed as if he expected something or someone to be there. . Feeling that there was nothing there, he instantly sat up on his bed. "Hailey?" his groggy voice groaned. Jay looked around the room but he still couldn't find the woman he was looking for.

A small seed of worry began to sprout in him. Pulling the sheets over, Jay's ears picked up the muffled sound of the toilet's flush. This was followed by the sound of rushing water. After a few moments, the bathroom door opened and a blonde walked through it. "Jay," the blue eyed woman says with a hint of surprise in her voice. "Hailey, you ok?" Jay wondered what was going on with her since he noticed how tired her eyes looked. "I'm good," Hailey gave a small grin to reassure him . Jay stood from the edge of the bed d and walked towards Hailey. He cupped her face in between his hands. "Are you sure?" Jay asked. "Yeah," Hailey said with a mild tone of annoyance. Jay's calloused hand caressed Hailey's soft cheek and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "It's our day off, wanna go for a breakfast date?" he asked. A smile grew on Hailey's face and she nodded her head.

The couple finished getting ready for the day and walked out of their house. It was a pleasant day to go out. The cool breeze of fall grazed their faces as they strolled down the short pathway of their front yard. "Where do you wanna go?" Jay asked. He looked back at his girlfriend and their eyes met. He couldn't place his finger on it, but he knew that something bothered her enough to take away the usual flare in her eyes. "Hail?" Jay called out to get her attention. Hailey's eyes snapped into focus. "Yeah?" Hailey responded, clearly not hearing Jay's previous question. "Where do you wanna get breakfast?" the man repeated his question. It bugged him that she wasn't telling him what was troubling her. He tried to think of what it was. It might be because it was early in the morning and she just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or was it something else entirely?. "We could go anywhere," Hailey finally gave a reply to Jay's question. Her body had been feeling strange lately. It has been a few days since she began getting queasy sensations every morning when she awoke. Although she had an idea of what this may be, she shoved her thoughts to the back of her mind.

The soft chatter of the customers saturated the atmosphere of the coffee shop. The barista's occasional loud calling of a name would silence these chatters like each of them just heard an important announcement. While her lover got their orders, Hailey sat by the window near the entrance. Her eyes wandered from the shops opposite the cafe to the people walking by. Her previous thoughts began to surface again. Even though she was almost certain of it, she couldn't accept it. Not with this job. Not when they weren't ready for it. "Black coffee" a brunette says as he places a full paper cup in front of the blonde. He took a seat opposite the blonde woman and his eyes landed on hers. A frown appeared on Jay's face. 'She's been out of it since this morning'. "Hail?" he asks with concern laced in his voice. She merely turned her head to face him. "Are you sure you're ok?" her partner asked. "Yeah. I'm good, Jay," Hailey reassured her partner again, but she, herself, didn't even know if that was true at all. For the rest of the day, Jay's concern was still met with the same answer from his partner.

It was nearing lunch time, Jay left to get them some lunch as Hailey stayed home due to her nausea. The sound of the doorbell ringing echoed through their silent home. Hailey slowly made her way to the front door. "Hey, V," she greeted as soon as she was met with the brown eyes of her best friend. "Hail, are you sure about this?" Vanessa asked her best friend. Moving to their kitchen, she took a box of pregnancy tests out of a paper bag. "Have you talked to Jay about this yet?" Vanessa asked further when she didn't receive a reply from the other woman. "Not yet," Hailey responded. Vanessa's head snapped towards Hailey, not expecting the answer she gave. "Why?" she asked in confusion. She knew Hailey and Jay would talk whenever the other was going through something, so why wasn't Hailey talking to Jay about this? "Because I'm scared that he might leave me," Hailey muttered. Vanessa stood opposite her best friend in disbelief. There was no way that Jay would leave her because of something like this or for any reason at all.

"And I'm not really sure that I'm actually pregnant," Hailey stated, somehow trying to convince her subconscious otherwise, but she knew there was life forming inside of her. "I'll always be here," Vanessa smiled as she handed the box Hailey asked her to buy. The blonde gave her a grateful smile. She took the box of her hold and walked herself to the bathroom. The door closed and Hailey knew that her life was about to change. Her phone that showed a timer counting down from 5 minutes was set beside the test that she just took. Only a few seconds had passed but Hailey felt like she'd been waiting for hours. As her fears and worries began to engulf her, her phone's alarm tone bounced off the walls of the bathroom. She hit 'cancel' on her phone and the alarm's sound faded. It was time to face the part she dreaded the most - the part where she'll have to look at her results. She picked up the test from the counter and looked at it. There were two lines across the tiny display on it. Those lines confirmed what her subconscious had known all along. She's pregnant.

Hailey opened the bathroom door and she saw Vanessa seated by one of the dining chairs. "So?" she asked as Hailey sat beside her. "I'm… pregnant," Hailey mumbled. Vanessa stared at her for a while. She knew how Hailey got nervous. Her head would hang low, her leg would shake, and her palm would clench the clothing of her pants. The warmth that Hailey quickly felt from Vanessa's hand slowly made her breathing calm down. "Just be honest with him. I'm sure he would understand," Vanessa advised her. Hailey slowly turns to face Vanessa. She gave her a smile of gratitude again as she hugged her tightly. "Thank you," she whispered into the brunette's ear.

The jiggling of keys can be heard through the wooden front door. Hailey was sitting on one of the dining room chairs. She was repeating the words Vanessa helped her organize in her head. Words that were meant for Jay. The front door swung open and Jay stepped in with a plastic bag that contained their dinner. He headed straight to the dining table and started setting the food on the table. He pulled a chair out and sat down. "Hail?" he called out, noticing that Hailey hadn't touched her favorite food. "Jay," he was met with seriousness from Hailey. He was slightly perplexed with her tone. 'Did I do something? Did I forget anything important?', he tried to think of the reason she was being like this.' "I'm pregnant," Hailey finally said. His jaw dropped. "What?" Jay asks with wide eyes. Panic immediately filled Hailey's being as she started to say, "I'm sorry. I didn't know what happened. I know we were careful, but-" Her words suddenly came to a halt as her eyes snapped down to her hands. She saw Jay's wrapped around it. He was trying to calm her knew that Hailey often babbled when she thought that she did something wrong; however, he never wanted her to feel that way. He didn't want her to be scared of how he would react.

"Hailey," Jay said softly. Her eyes moved back up to his face. His smile eased the tension in her shoulders . He was happy about the news. "There's nothing to be sorry about. I'll follow you wherever you go, so whether or not you want to have this- our baby, I would be there with you every step of the way," Jay assured her. Her heart fluttered at this. She now didn't know why she was ever nervous about telling Jay of her pregnancy. "What do you think we should do?" Hailey asked. "Personally, I would gladly have a baby with you," Jay's smile remained as he rubbed the rough pad of his thumb across her knuckles. . Hailey happily nodded her head and said, "I would love that too, so that's what we're doing." The instance those words reached Jay's ears, his being couldn't believe it. He thought for sure that Hailey wouldn't have this baby because of their job, but he was clearly wrong. "Are you serious right now?" Jay asked for reassurance. Hailey chuckled at how Jay was not believing how this situation just went. "Yeah," she happily gave him the reassurance he wanted. "We're really having a baby," Jay breathed , still not being able to process the news. "Yeah, Jay. We are," Hailey said, standing from her seat. Jay's eyes followed her movements and his body decided to do the same. "We're having a baby!" Jay exclaimed as he captured her in a tight loving embrace.
