Epilogue – Happily Ever After
Five Years Later
The never changing sun of Naboo shone with its radiant warmth. And that was one among many things for everyone to be grateful for. The Clone War was but a distant memory now. No such conflict or attempts to restart the war had been repeated in the past years since. The galaxy was at peace with all its systems and planets. Any argument which rose was only ever just small trivial things which was no cause for any alarm.
Supreme Chancellor Bail Organa of Alderaan had done well in all his terms, which were spent fixing and restoring everything and everyone which the war had damaged. The people had adored and admired him the whole time he was in office. When his term was up, the role of Chancellor was then handed over to Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila and she was equally adored and admired as Bail was. She gave her love and devotion to the galaxy and received it back.
The life of politics was hardly of any importance for Anakin Skywalker at this present time. The past five years had been the happiest of his life. Not only had he been free to be with Padme, but being a parent made it all the more wonderful. The twins had grown into two very beautiful, fun, cheery and energetic kids who were still just as adorable as they were when they were babies.
Anakin was at this moment, seated in a big cushioned garden seat under the shaded gazebo in their huge and magnificent garden in Lake Country. Padme was seated beside him with her head rested on his shoulder and his arm wrapped round her. From where they sat they watched their beautiful twins across the garden with blissful smiles.
Luke was over by the large pond with Obi-Wan and was giggling helplessly as he chased a toy ship, the Jedi master was levitating it with the force and making fly round. The little boy's lush blonde hair flew around as he ran fast trying to catch the ship, and the sound of his high laughter was music to Anakin's ears.
Obi-Wan himself was seated cross legged by the water's edge and smiling delightedly as he watched the small boy who almost exactly resembled Anakin when Obi-Wan had first met him. Though small for his age, Luke was very energetic and loved active activities. This would be useful when it came to his Jedi training, but he was still only five years old. Not wanting to exhaust the boy, Kenobi finally slowed the speed of the flying toy and Luke jumped and caught it with both hands.
"Yes! I got it Uncle Ben! I got it!"
Obi-Wan chuckled softly at the nick-name the twins used for him. "You sure did, Luke." The little boy ran up and hugged the Jedi Master round the neck. Obi-Wan returned the boy's hug with a relaxed smile.
On the other side of the garden Leia was seated with Ahsoka in the grass near the luscious flower beds. Leia was picking daisies from the grass and Ahsoka had been making them into a cute daisy chain. Once it was finished, Ahsoka placed the little crown of flowers on top of Leia's head.
"There you are, little princess," said Ahsoka, smiling down at Leia.
"Thank you, Auntie Soka," The girl said beaming up at her. She pulled Leia into her lap and the girl gave her a kiss on the cheek. Ahsoka giggled, giving Leia a squeeze and stroking her long, dark brown hair.
Leia, just like Luke was small for her age and it appeared that both twins had inherited their mother's height. Anakin was sure that they may grow taller once they were a bit older. On the other hand Anakin would not mind if they didn't because it would mean that he could pick them up and hold them in his arms for a bit longer. The twins were quite clingy at points and loved having cuddles with their parents. Sometimes they would even sneak into their parent's bed and they would all sleep together.
Both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka met each other's eyes as they held the twins, and then they looked over to Anakin and Padme who were still watching them from the gazebo with their blissful smiles.
Obi-Wan's visits had been more frequent than either he or Anakin had expected. Mainly because with the Clone War ended, the Jedi could return to their original purpose of being peacekeepers. Trouble these days was hard to find, so Kenobi had found a lot of time on his hands to visit and see how Anakin, Padme and the twins were. And there was no denying that the Jedi master had formed an attachment to the twins. But he didn't mind, seeing as these were new times.
Ahsoka had found her own peace in the past few years she had been with the Skywalkers. At last she had put her old ghosts to rest. The main reason for it was the twins. Their presence alone was soothing and cleared her mind of any of those awful memories.
Another small reason was something which occurred during a visit to the Jedi Temple a few months after Anakin and Padme had made their trip back to Tatoonie to reunite with the Lars family. Ahsoka had surprised her youngling friends with a visit to see how their training was progressing. During that visit she had crossed paths with Mace Windu. The Jedi master requested a private word with her, to which she was reluctant at first, but ultimately accepted. He told her that he wished to offer her another apology for the false accusations against her. He told her that he had agreed to expel her because he'd felt that refusing the order of the Senate would have been seen as an act of opposition. And with all the evidence piling up, the traitor had succeeded in deceiving many of the council members. He felt that the apology he had given Ahsoka the day she left was not as strong or as sincere as it had meant to be. So he asked if now she would accept his full apology and forgive him for losing trust in her so easily.
Ahsoka was flabbergasted to hear words like this coming from Mace Windu, but she could feel his sincere honesty through the Force. After a long silence of debate, she accepted it with a shake of hands and that was that. The Jedi Council had requested a few times if Ahsoka had considered returning to the Order, but she had remained true to her word. She had found her true path in being the Skywalker family as their loyal friend and protector. Along with Captain Rex, Plo Koon and her other friends at the Temple, the Skywalkers were all she needed now and she was happy. It warmed her heart each time the twins called her "Auntie Soka". It was short, but easy for the kids to pronounce right now until they wished otherwise.
"Hey Leia!" The little girl let go of Ahsoka and turned to see Luke hurrying towards them and she stood up.
"Come on!" He cried as he passed.
"Hey wait for me!" Leia giggled as she ran off after her brother.
She caught up with him at the large fountain where Artoo and Threepio were standing and watched the twins as they ran around in a wild game of tag, chasing each other with their sweet laughs filling the garden. Artoo shared their laughter with excited whistles and shaking his domed body. Threepio was doing his best trying to keep his photoreceptors on the twins as they ran round his legs, but managing to keep his balance.
Everyone else was watching them with serene happiness as they played. Anakin was thrilled at how his twins had grown and couldn't be happier. Another thing he kept thinking of was that soon he would begin their Jedi training, but he wasn't too worried. The twins were very obedient and often did things without having to be asked twice. So it appeared that their training may be straightforward, but that remained unknown. Nonetheless, Anakin had high confidence in his son and daughter even now as he watched them frolic around the garden.
"Can you think of anything to make this day any better?" Padme asked from beside him.
He turned his gaze to his wife and smiled warmly. "Not as far as I can see. I have everything I could have ever asked for. Two beautiful children, a loving wife and loyal friends. What more could there be that is better than this life?"
Padme returned his warm smile and the two of them kissed each other with all the love in their hearts.
"Daddy! Mommy!" Two cherub-like voices cried.
They broke apart to see Luke and Leia running up towards them. Smiling happily, they opened their arms to meet the twins. Anakin caught Luke up in a big hug and Padme embraced Leia. For a while they just sat there hugging the twins, and then Anakin shifted and seated Luke on his knee. Padme did the same, placing Leia on hers. The twins snuggled up against them.
"When can I make this ship fly, Daddy?" Luke asked, holding it up for him to see.
"One day son, once you learn," Anakin said.
"But I wanna fly it now, like you and Uncle Ben can."
Anakin chuckled and ruffled Luke's blond locks. "Patience Luke, I promise you will learn. But it won't happen in a day."
Obi-Wan came up to join them. "Your father is right, Luke. Patience is the key to learning great things."
The boy looked a little disappointed, but understanding. "Ok," he said resting against his father's chest as Anakin smiled.
"What about the laser swords, Daddy?" Leia asked. "Will we get to swing one of them?"
Padme smiled over at Anakin who turned his attention to his daughter. "Of course, Princess. But you must learn to use them properly. Remember what I told you both?"
"We must not touch them yet," Leia stated.
"Because they're not toys," put in Luke.
"That's right you two, well done," said Padme. "You must remember all that Daddy, Uncle Ben and Auntie Soka tell you."
"We will, Mommy," the two of them chorused.
Ahsoka then appeared at Kenobi's side. "Learning to master your special skills will not be easy, you two. But from what your father taught me, I learned that with time, patience, focus and commitment, you learn fast."
Leia looked puzzled. "What does Com..miter…ment mean Auntie Soka?" She asked.
Ahsoka smiled. "It means promising to stick to what you are learning and making sure not to give up."
"Oh" said Leia, understanding.
"You don't have to worry about anything, my angels," said Padme. "This will take time but we will be right there with you the whole time." The twin's smiles returned and they both reached up to hug their parents. And all three of them shared smiles of happiness at the joy the twins always radiated around them.
Later that night when it was time for bed, Anakin and Padme carried the small children from the fresher to their bedroom. At first they had considered giving the twins separate rooms, but because the strong bond the two of them shared, they decided not to separate them at this time. So Anakin and Padme had ended up selecting the biggest bedroom and let them share it together.
Anakin opened the door with the Force because his hands were full with carrying Luke and Padme's also full with Leia. Both twins were almost fast asleep against them, and very gently, both parents tucked the twins into their separate double beds. They kissed each of them as the twins snuggled down with their cuddle toys. Luke had a furry Wookie doll and Leia had her fluffy Ewok doll.
"Good night, little Angels," Padme whispered.
"May the Force be with you," Anakin whispered.
At the bedroom door, they just stood there for a while watching their twins sleep in their room filled with moonlight, which glowed off the floor, littered with kids toys and games. It still amazed them how cute the twins looked when they slept, and it reminded them of when the two of them were babies. How time flew.
After they left them and pulled the door shut, they went along the hall to their own room and once there, they changed into their nightwear. When Anakin came out from the fresher he walked over to the mirror and pushed his hair away from his face. His eyes fixed on a drawer in the dresser in front of him and opened it. Inside it lay his lightsaber upon a folded piece of cloth. It had been so long since he had last used it to fight anyone. But he had kept good practice using staffs and occasionally the saber itself with Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. But he had had no reason to use it to protect his family. With the lack of threats and dangers, it was uncertain if he would need to use it again. But it was an unknown fear he had to be prepared for, so he had carried it with him whenever they went away somewhere on a trip and sometimes round the house. The twins had often been curious about it, but Anakin would not allow them to hold it yet. One day they would make their own sabers and Anakin looked forward so much to witnessing that, and the day they would be named Jedi knights by the Council. But that time was still far away. No matter how long it took, Anakin would make sure his son and daughter received the proper training.
He closed the drawer and went to join Padme in bed. She was in her pale blue, satin nightgown and just finishing brushing her hair. Placing the brush on her bedside she turned to Anakin who pulled the covers over him. She gave him her most heart-warming smile which he returned. His eyes then recognized the familiar charm hanging from the chain round her neck. He took the Japor Snippet between his finger and thumb and looked at it just as he had not long ago.
"It did truly work Ani, you were right," Padme said. "I received the best fortune I could have ever dreamed for."
Anakin nodded, meeting her bright eyes. "I agree, it worked for both of us. And I hope it never ends."
She smiled and leaned in to kiss him. Anakin kissed her back and he lay down, wrapping his arms round her smooth slender body. Her soft hand came up to run her fingers through his hair. He moaned in pleasurable delight and held her tight for a while longer until they both relaxed on the pillows with no space between them.
"I love you Anakin Skywalker, more than you know."
His heart fluttered and he pressed his lips to her forehead. "And I love you too Padme Skywalker, more than my own life."
Her rich brown eyes looked into his crystal blue ones. "For as long as we both shall live…"
"…no matter what happens…"
She snuggled even closer resting her head on his chest against his heart. "…we will always be together…"
He rested his head against hers and closed his eyes. "…forever and ever."
