The Duck With Gemstones

She was soaking in her bathtub when she heard the noises in her bedroom.

"Haymitch?" she called with a small frown, not quite ready for an accidental encounter with an attendant or an Avox. She hadn't realized Haymitch was back in the penthouse but he could be silent when he was determined to avoid her.

"Yeah." he grumbled, pushing the bathroom door open. "Looking for painkillers."

In her room and without asking first, she couldn't help but think. She huffed but didn't bother berating him for it. She had long abandoned any hope of teaching him any semblance of manners.

"How did it go with the sponsor?" she asked, waving in the direction of the small cupboard. She had left him alone to handle that meeting and she hoped he hadn't made a mess of it.

"Same as usual." he muttered, locating the small bottle of pills and popping two in his mouth. The look of relief on his face was almost immediate. He perched on the edge of the tub, letting his eyes roam on her naked body with obvious appreciation. "Having fun?"

"I was relaxing if you must know." she retorted, taking a sip from the glass of white wine she had left on the other side of the bathtub. She didn't have to wait two seconds for the glass to be snatched from her fingers and downed with not enough respect for the fine cru it was. "Ruffian."

He winked at her, discarding the glass on the sink and rolling his sleeves up. She settled more comfortably, not really surprised when one of his hands dipped in the tub and landed on her knee, nudging her legs apart. Something bumped against his wrist before he could do anything though and he frowned, picking up the small pink plastic duck with gemstones around its neck.

"Aren't you too old for rubber ducks?" he snorted.

"It has sparkles." she replied, batting her eyelashes.

He wasn't buying the innocent act at all.

He inspected the duck until he found the small button on its belly. He lifted an eyebrow and turned it on, smirking hard when the thing started vibrating in his hand.

"What kind of bath are you having, sweetheart?" he mocked.

"The relaxing kind." she grinned. "I told you. Hop in and I will show you."

She didn't need to ask him twice.
