A\N HI! UPDATE! Two months…hellish, hellish months. Barely had time for myself, let alone for fanfic. Thankfully despite lacking the ability to physically write something, i had plenty of time to think about this fanfic(got rid of even more OCs, and putting some canon characters there instead, founding place for those who i left before etc, etc. Some old OC will stay, however there WON'T be many new ones, 2-3 at best, and i might get rid of those as well in future.), and also thought up couple one-shots to work on as well, want to publish them while i'm writing this one, since it's a long story and i bet some of you would like some fresh material. Also a big thank you to all who reviewed, faved, and followed my stories during this 2 months, you guys and gals really put a smile on my face at the end of the day.)
And, as always…
READ AND REVIEW.

Chapter 10
Sounds of magic
"Hey dad" Bonnie put phone between her ear and shoulder and opened a fridge at home.
"Hey BonBon." Ryan answered, sitting in his office in the library. "Is something happened?"
"Kinda." she pulled a pot with soup. "There was a girl in a school, looked really pale, and there was this weird scratchy sound coming from her. Ron didn't hear it though, other people too. It was loud."
"I see." he stood up and walked to the shelf.
"So… am i going crazy or it's a witch problem?"
"You're not going crazy hon." Ryan chuckled. "Witches getting more and more sensitive to magic phenomena with age. Hmm…scratchy sound you say? I've read about something like that before, need to remember where."
"Glad to hear it." she poured some soup in her plate. "By the way dad, did you eat your lunch?"
"O-of course." his voice cracked slightly.
"Dad." Bonnie's voice became lower. "You forgot to eat it again, haven't you?"
"I'm, well, you know…"
"I know that you need to eat lunch to keep your stamina up." she spoke sternly. "Last time you were forgetting to eat lunch for a weak you basically collapsed on the porch, remember?"
"Well to be fair it was mostly because i used too much spells that day…"
"That's a poor excuse and you know it."
"Yes hon, you are right. Sorry." Ryan gave up and pulled blue sealed container from his bag and pushed a button on the electrical kettle. "I'll take a break now and eat some."
"That's better." Bonnie had a little triumphant smile. "Don't overwork yourself."
"I won't BonBon. See you home."
Ryan Rockwaller put the phone away and waited until the water in the kettle boiled to make some tea. With hot beverage by his side, he took the lid from the container. Several sandwiches were inside it, still fresh. He took a bite from one of those, while leaving through a book before him. He stopped at a certain page and started to read carefully, munching another sandwich in a process.
"Hm. This could be a good opportunity actually." he said under his breath and drank some tea from the mug.
In couple hours he finished all his work for that day and drove away towards an old store to get something for his plan. As he walking in it, he was immediately met by the shopkeeper. Tall and well-dressed old man, with grey eyes matching his grey hair. Ryan remembered how he entered this place many years ago, and the man behind the counter was absolutely the same as now, visually and mentally.
"Welcome Mr. Rockwaller." Shopkeeper made a small bow.
"Good to see you to Dominique." Ryan nodded.
"What can i get you today?"
"A clear glass crystal, palm size preferably."
"Be right back." he said calmly and went through the curtains near the counter.
While Ryan waited patiently for his order, front door opened, letting in a sound of the busy Tokyo street, along with a teenage japanese girl. She was holding a wooden box in her arms. Dominique got back to the counter and, with his usual professional smile, greeted her with a nod.
"Ohayo gozaimasu, Craft-san." she bowed. "I brought herbs you asked for."
"My thanks to you and your Sensei." Dominique answered. "Please, put them on the counter."
"Hai." girl put the box carefully.
"The scroll your school ordered will arrive by the end week."
"I understand. Yamanouchi is grateful for your service." she bowed again and left the building.
"Such a nice young lady. Now i believe this is what you were looking for." Shopkeeper put an octagon shaped crystal on the counter. "
"It's perfect." Ryan took it in his hand. "How much?"
"None." Dominique stated. "Amulets that you provided for selling are having great success, i can allow to give this to you as it is. Consider this my gratitude."
"Thank you." Ryan said, putting the item in his bag, and pulled a paper from it a second later. "Just to be sure, do you have any of these items in your stock?"
"No, i'm afraid these ones are too powerful to keep in this shop, they would mess the system."
"I thought so as well." Ryan put the sheet of paper back. "It was worth a shot to ask."
"Can i ask why would you need those items?"
"For the boy who saw too much."
"A boy. Could it possibly be the young lad who visited my shop last month along with your daughter?"
"Yes, it is." Ryan remembered Bonnie mentioning going here with Ron for games or something. "Unfortunately i can't erase his memories with usual method, so my daughter is looking out for him while i'm preparing another solution."
"You know." Dominique spoke softly. "They reminded me of another couple who visited this shop so many years ago. A witch and a young man, who just entered the world of magic and witchcraft."
"It's…different." Ryan said with slight waver in his voice. "I'll make sure Ron will forget about it and live his own life. I won't let him to stay in this side of the fence."
With these words Ryan walked out, leaving shopkeeper alone.
"Too bad." Dominique said out loud for nobody to hear. "That boy has a great potential."
Bonnie sprawled on the couch, holding a book from her favorite series in one hand, and occasionally bringing an apple for a bite with another. Despite the fact that she read it several times before, she was still totally engrossed by the book. Playful banter of two main characters in it never got old for her. As she continued reading the story about writer and his cop partner she attempted to make another bite, only to bite an empty space. Confuse for a moment, she looked at the remains of the fruit in her hand, only to see the apple core. Putting the book to the side, Bonnie moved from her comfortable position and moved to the kitchen. As she threw fruit's core into the trash can she noticed that there was sticky juice remains on her hand. An idea shined inside her head.
"Water." she mouthed and cupped her palms, noticing as they were being filled with small amount of liquid.
Bonnie cleaned juice remains with it and shook off the remains of water, drying her hands. She was training everyday with her Water spell. Her father told her that it is the most comfortable element to learn control with due to its nature. Feeling ready to practice some more, Bonnie went upstairs towards her sister's room. It was the same as the day of their departure. Two beds, double desk, closet for two people. On said desk was standing a CD player, with a stand filled with plenty of music discs right behind it. Bonnie took device in her hand and one of the jewel cases from the stand, clear one with two flower stickers on it. She still remembered how her sisters were practicing their spell with music on, telling that it helped them to concentrate. With it she went down to the lit basement and plugged the device into the electrical socket in the corner. As disc was inserted, music started to play automatically. CD had a quite diverse playlist on it. Some music was without any lyrics, Techno and Rock variations of classical music, other one were songs of different genres, but each one has some sort of a kick to it.
"Alright." Bonnie stood in the center of basement, put palms in front of her, but facing each other, and made a deep breath. "Water sphere."
Small ball of water appeared in between them, growing bigger and bigger as she moved her hands apart. At first it was as big as a ping pong ball, expanding to the size of baseball one, and eventually the basketball one. The more it grew in size, the harder it was to keep its form. Bonnie was trying to keep current form and size, to cast another spell. Timing was everything. In a mere second she needed to switch the feel in her mind and body to a different one.
"Freeze!"
As she shouted her spell water sphere's surface became an icy crust. It fell on the ground a moment later, shattering and spilling all water inside on the stone cold floor.
"Dang it." she said with slight frustration. "Now i need to get a mop…or…"
Track changed into the next song, while ice crust melted into the puddle. Bonnie focused on the liquid on the floor, mentally drawing and outline at it surface and edge.
"Water." she said calmly, with her hands put forward and pointed on the puddle.
Slowly but surely spilled water rose in the air, obeying Bonnie's hands as a guide. Feeling music beats, young witch started to move her hands in circle motion in front of her, along with slight moving of torso and shoulders to make movement smoother. Water, still floating in midair, began to circle as well, forming a donut shape. Feeling a total control over the liquid, Bonnie stretched her hands forwards and swiftly spread them apart, trying to concentrate on the image in her head at the same time. Water obeyed her will and divided on five water spheres, each one was the size of a ripe grapefruit. All of them were still floating in the air. Bonnie slowly moved her arms downwards and water spheres started to descend, abiding to the will of the caster. The young witch stopped them near the floor and breathed some air, slowly, to finish this training session.
"Freeze!"
All five spheres froze in instant and fell from a really short height. Two of them cracked in half, while other three remained intact. Bonnie, with a foxy happy grin, jumped in air couple times. Her control was getting better and better with each training session. Feeling encouraged by it, she ran upstairs to her room and grabbed a notepad with her spell ideas. She flipped through its pages, while getting back to the basement.
"Alright." Bonnie stopped on the certain page and looked at the spell she thought out. "I'm cool with ice now, you are made from ice. Should work."
She put the notepad on top of the CD played and tried to concentrate to the image in her head. Still feeling the confidence boost, she took a breath and tried to cast the spell.
"Icicle!" she shouted and put her right hand forwards.
To her utter disappointment nothing happened. She tried again and again, but the result was the same every time. Grunting loudly, Bonnie hanged her head low in frustration. She really hoped it would work. Ever since the fight with masked uber-nerd she wanted to add at least one offensive spell to her arsenal. An idea of an ice-made projectile was theoretically perfect, since she made a nice progress with water control, however crafting the spell itself proved to be not an easy task.
Feeling a need in a break, Bonnie turned off CD player and cleaned up melting ice spheres, putting the in the bathroom under the stream of warm water, and went to the kitchen for a snack. While chewing on a bologna sandwich, she was trying to think about what she did wrong. Why the spell doesn't work? Her father taught her that spell aren't just words and image, it is also a specific feeling. She had an image of it, she had a feeling that it should be icy, pointy and shoot-y, she even had a spell word she was sure is correct for it, but something was missing. While in this thoughts, she looked at the remains of a sandwich in her hand, and suddenly remembered words Ron said recently about cooking.
"Different ingredient mixed together influence each other, transforming in a new single result. It's magical. Well not really magical…"
"Magical…huh…" Bonnie's lips curved in a small smirk, as a new idea was born. "Maybe it is."
With the rest of the sandwich quickly stuffed in her mouth, she ran downstairs and turned on the music again. After swallowing the rest of the food in hurry, she stood still for a minute, trying to be as concentrated on the task as possible. Bonnie started with movements and feel to her water spell. She didn't say the word, just tried it in her imagination. First, a flowing motion of liquid that can be shaped into what she need. A short line made of water. Next, it must be solidified, become a hard substance, get frozen. And lastly, it has to move through the air, fast, forward. With this in mind she was repeating the feelings from her Water, Freeze and Gust spells over and over, until three of them started to mix into the one.
"Icicle!" she swung her hand before her, and a small, misshaped icicle appeared in the air and immediately flew over the basement to shatter at the lower part of the wall.
Smiling widely, Bonnie started to repeatedly cast this spell. She was trying it with both right and left hand, just for variety. Icicles were still too small and were shattering easily, however she was sure that with practice she could make them better, stronger, faster.
"Well. That is something new." Ryan stepped into the basement. "Looks interesting."
"I called it Icicle." Bonnie was panting, but still had a smile on her face. "Sharp fast and painful. Well it will be when I'll perfect it."
"Sounds great." he smiled proudly. "Now, clean here up and meet me at my study, i've found something about what is wrong with that girl."
"OK."
Before going upstairs, Ryan looked with a corner of his eye at the CD player. He was glad Bonnie found a use for it. An idea of using music to enhance spell-learning experience was actually her mother's one. She taught it to Connie and Lonnie, and now Bonnie was using it as well. Pain and happiness equally resided in Ryan's heart again. He walked into his study room, and put on the table book he brought with himself. Bonnie entered around five minutes later, anxious to know what happed with her and that girl earlier.
"So, what was that?" she asked directly.
"As far as i understand, it was a slime." Ryan stood his desk and opened book in the marked page.
"A slime?" Bonnie asked, looking into it.
"A parasitic slime to be exact. It is a creature who thrives on a magical energy, or the closest alternative to it, which is, well, human's life source, or, to oversimplify it for our case, health."
"So it's literally drains an energy from her. So, how do i kill it?"
"You don't."
"Say what?" Bonnie raised one eyebrow in question.
"Slime aren't hard to defeat, one of the weakest types of monster, with couple exceptions. However they are really messy, i don't think it will be pleasant or even plausible to clean the mess during school hours."
"OK, so what do i do with it then?"
"You're going to capture it." Ryan pulled out the octagon shaped glass crystal from the bag and handed it to his daughter. "Just concentrate a bit of magic energy in your hand while holding it and the slime will run right into it, trapping itself inside."
"Magic, hand, trap. I got it." Bonnie nodded, looking at the crystal.
"And after that…" Ryan continued. "We can start working on the banishment spell, using it as the practice dummy."
"Whoa, whoa, hold on a second. Banishment spell?" she asked. "Are you sure? It's kinda out of my league yet."
"Your control is getting better, and you need to learn it if you are going to keep looking after the school area. Trust me, you'll get it faster than you think."
"If you say so." half-smile appeared on her face.
"Alright, enough of serious talk for today. How about some dinner." Ryan corrected his glasses.
The next day Bonnie, with a company of Ron, stalked Marcella quietly, trying not to get any unnecessary attention. Girl rarely was alone, she was always surrounded either by her cheerleading gal pals, Kim included. Marcella was grateful for such care from their side, however it was getting rather annoying. She felt like a little girl surrounded by a bunch of worrisome aunts.
"I'm going to bathroom." she stood from the lunch table, feeling weakness in her legs.
"I'll go with you." Hope was ready to follow.
"I can go to the bathroom myself, i'm not a child! Geez!" Marcy said, harsher than intended.
"Text me if you'll need help or something!" Hope said to her friend.
Marcella just rolled her eyes and walked away from them.
"This is our chance." Bonnie said to Ron, and quickly followed weak cheerleader.
"Hmph…" Ron mumbled with a mouth full of french fries.
Feeling that it might be the only chance to act, Bonnie stopped before bathroom door and turned towards her only friend.
"OK, i need you to stand here and not letting anyone inside until i'm done."
"Not letting girls in girl's bathroom, easy." Ron said with sarcasm and worry. "How am i supposed to do that?"
"Think of something!" Bonnie answered and disappeared behind the door.
Marcella was standing at the sink, feeling dizziness. Bonnie walked up to her quietly, pulled out the crystal glass and started to pump a little magic in it. As soon as she did that, Marcy's, now unconscious, body fell on the tiled floor, and dark gooey substance appeared on her back. Just as slime visibly revealed itself, it leaped towards Bonnie. Young witch shielded herself with a crystal. Almost in instant this unpleasant creature was sucked up in the octagon shaped trap, coloring it in black. Feeling triumphant, Bonnie put it into her bag, and pulled out the spray with mind-altering potion in it. She checked all stalls, just to be sure, and, thankfully, they were empty. Relieved, she walked to the unconscious cheerleader and slapped her cheek lightly couple times.
"Hey, are you ok?" she asked, trying to sound as innocent as possible.
"I'm…what happened?"
"You don't remember?" Bonnie asked. "When i walked in you just fell."
"I remember being in bathroom, than it was blurry… oh shit did i pass out or something? Great…"
"Just to be clear i have nothing to do with it." after the recent events she felt almost obligatory to tell that.
"Don't be stupid, of course not. I'm just not feeling well lately." Marcy stood up, with a little support from Bonnie.
"Good." Bonnie felt better. "Uhm, it might be not my business, but try ginseng tea, it's good for vitality."
"Yeah, whatever."
Marcella turned on the water and splashed her face couple times. With a corner of her eye she noticed that Bonnie was about to leave the bathroom.
"Thanks." cheerleader added. "For helping me, i mean. And, can you not telling anyone about me passing out?"
"Sure."
Bonnie nodded and walked back to the hallway. In there she saw an interesting scene. Ron was kneeling at the door, with two girls shouting at him.
"Move out you freak!" one of them loudly pronounced.
"I'm telling you for the fifth time, i'm not moving until i'm done with tying my shoes. Correctly tied shoelaces are holding a great importance in our lives and culture! The proper way to tie a shoe was established in…"
"OMG I DON'T CARE!" the other girl in a bunch screeched. "Just let us pass through before we called Barklin on you!"
Bonnie quickly sneaked passed them, winking Ron on the way.
"Fine!" Ron stood up. "But if i'll fall and hurt my face, you are to blame."
"Whatever, you weirdo!"
Ron walked away from them as fast as he could, and joined Bonnie further in the hallway.
"Well, that was an interesting distraction." Bonnie smirked.
"It was terrifying!" Ron shuddered. "So, how did it go?"
"Perfect, the cat is in the bag. Well not literally the cat, and more like in a crystal that in the bag."
"Cool. Uhm… can you wait for a second?" Ron asked, laughing awkwardly. "I need to tie my shoes."
