Chapter Three
"You're going out!?" Ron exclaimed in complete and utter astonishment and disbelief.
"Umm,.. yeah." Draco replied in a whisper in sheer and utter annoyance before a few moments of silence passed between them.
"With each other!?" Ron cried out.
"Yeah, that's usually what boyfriends and girlfriends do." He began. "I never thought that I would say this in a million years that I would have gained respect for the saintly Harry Potter, but I definitely have a lot more respect for him right now than I do for you because at least he puts Hermione's happiness first like a true friend would." He finished before he started heading out the door.
"Draco wait up!" Harry cried as he chased after him and then Draco stopped and turned back around to face him. "I was just wondering if maybe you would like to hangout sometime." He told him as Draco suddenly looked at him like he had six heads.
"I'm sorry, you,.. want to hangout with me?" He questioned before pointing over at him and then back at himself.
"Yeah. Look, it's not just about Hermione anymore." Harry began while slowly turning his head and looking away from him. "I come from a shitty family as well and so I know how that feels. I was sort of wondering if there's a chance that we can be friends." He finished as he looked back at him.
"Maybe,.." Draco began as he avoided eye contact with him.
"After all, didn't you say that you could help me when it comes to not making friends with the wrong sort?" Harry asked him as he genuinely smiled at him and then offered him his hand and Draco turned to look back at him and smiled back at him.
"Yeah, but it's too late for you and that Weasley idiot." He told him.
"I know Ron's currently acting like a dickhead, but there's also many good qualities about him. Anyways, what do you say we start over? Friends?" He inquired still offering his hand as Draco rolled his eyes and finally accepted it and shook it.
"Alright fine,.. friends. But if you tell Crabbe and Goyle about this I'll deny everything." He told him as Harry grinned at him.
"Alright it's a deal." He replied.
"I'm already never going to hear the end of it for dating a muggleborn." Draco told him.
"Well if they're going to tease you for that then maybe they aren't really your friends." Harry said.
"Actually, honestly I don't think I've ever had what you can call real friends. I just have people I hangout with so that I can be cool and popular like you. That, and the fact that the friendship you have with Hermione and Weasley I've always wanted, and I guess that's why I've always been so mean to you. I was just jealous. I'm sorry Harry, for everything." Draco told him as Harry just simply nodded at him.
"It's alright, don't worry about it. It's done with." He told him. "Now you better go, you don't want to keep Hermione waiting." He said with a grin as Draco smiled at him and nodded back.
"Alright, thanks." He began before Harry turned around and started to walk away from him. "Hey Potter!" He cried with a rather wide grin.
"Yeah?" Harry questioned as he turned back around to face him.
"You're alright." He told him as he smiled happily at him.
"So are you Malfoy." Harry replied as he smiled back at him before he watched him run off. "That's a sentence I'd never thought I'd say." He added quietly to himself once Draco had left and went back inside the house.
…
"Wow, who would have ever thought that I would see the day that Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter would finally become friends?" Hermione questioned as she and Draco waited at their table for their supper to arrive.
"Certainly not me." Draco replied. "Then again, I never thought I would see the day when I would fall in love with a muggleborn and that happened as well, so I guess anything's possible." He replied as he smiled lovingly down at her as she snuggled up to him and rested her head down on top of his shoulder and he kissed the top of it and then wrapped an arm around her and rested his chin down on top of it.
That's when all of a sudden Harry quickly hurried over to their table. "Draco!" He called as Draco glanced up at him and rolled his eyes.
"Whatever it is Potter can't it wait? I'm on a date right now." He reminded him.
"I know and I'm really sorry, but I've got to talk to you." Harry told him.
"Seriously? Right this second?" Draco questioned and Harry silently nodded at him before Draco let out a rather loud groan and rolled his eyes again. "Fine, but it better be important!" He exclaimed. "I'll be right back." He told Hermione before he got up from the table and walked over to him. "What!?" He cried out reluctantly.
"Your owl was looking for you and he gave this to me by mistake." Harry told him before he handed Draco a note with a very worried look in his eyes that Draco immediately noticed and felt his blood pressure and heartbeat instantly speed up before he looked down at it to read it.
Draco,
I know about you and that mudblood girl and the dark lord knows as well. If you wish for her to live, you'll come home immediately.
Your father, Lucius
Draco was suddenly hit with a wave of his emotions. He felt fear for Hermione's safety, and completely sick to his stomach, and his blood also broiled over the top with anger as he crumpled up the note inside his fingers and looked down at the ground. "What am I going to tell Hermione?" He questioned as a few tears trickled down his cheeks while he looked down at the ground and Harry placed a comforting hand on top of his shoulder and gently rubbed it.
"I don't know, but don't worry. We'll figure this out together." He told him while leaning his head up against him as Draco sniffed before he turned to look back over at the beautiful girl in front of him completely unaware about what was going to happen between them.
