"Marcus Robert John Winchester stop playing with the dog and get your shoes on. You'll be late for the bus!"
Jamie was drying dishes in the sink, her wavy blonde hair hung long and loose over one shoulder, her black tshirt wet with water and soap, and her two year old toddler clamped around her leg, holding stubbornly to her jeans.
"Bye Mommy, bye Emmy!" Mark called, hooking his backpack over his shoulders and heading for the door. A golden retriever pup followed at his heels.
"Mark, you be good. No powers, Angel boy." His mother hissed.
"Yes Mommy." He said obediently as he hurried out the door. Emmy let go of the hunter's leg, waving her hand towards the door so that it closed behind her brother. She stuck her other thumb in her mouth.
Jamie shook her head as she looked down at her daughter, drying her hands on a towel before picking up her toddler. "I guess it's training time for you, and then nap time." She kissed her pale cheek, smoothing back auburn curls.
She sat her daughter on the floor and then sat down crossed legged in front of her. A circle of Emmy's toys surrounded them. "Alright Em, watch Mommy." Jamie extended the first two fingers on each hand, raising her palms into the air. As she did the toys rose into the air. "Pick a toy." She urged, moving her fingers in a circle. It caused the toys to spin.
Emmy's emerald green eyes focused on the brown teddy bear, following it as it circled overhead. "Bear!" She finally said, raising chubby fingers towards it. It flew into her arms and she cuddled it to her chest. Jamie grinned, allowing the other toys to drop to the floor. She sat up and grabbed her daughter's purple blanket, wrapping it around her as she picked her up.
Emmy yawned, snuggling into her mother's arms. Just as she went to mount the stairs a sharp knock rattled at her door. Jamie stopped short, her free hand inched to her waistband. All these months and she still carried her knife. Some habits are hard to break. "Who is it?" She finally called.
"Jamie?" A familiar voice called.
Jamie looked up towards the door. With barely a blink it opened. "Over here." Her voice was barely a whisper as Dean walked through the threshold. He looked around, a sad smile on his face. He stopped when he saw Jamie, and the little girl in her arms.
"Daddy?" Emmy looked up towards Dean. She held her arms out towards him and Dean hesitated before taking her from his sister.
"Hey baby girl. You been good for your Mommy?" He asked. His daughter wrapped her tiny hands around his neck. He kissed her gently and then looked towards her mother. "Jamie..."
Jamie's eyes were full of tears as she looked at her brother. "You should take her upstairs to bed. It's the first room on the left." Was all she said.
He came back down the stairs to find her curled on up on couch, waiting. "She um, went down pretty fast." His voice was quiet. "Mark at school?"
"Yeah. He likes Kindergarden. Except he is always getting into fights."
Dean laughed, shaking his head. "Winchester."
"Where's Sam?"
"He's uh working a case a couple towns over." Jamie nodded. Dean walked over and hesitantly sat down. "Cas is doin alright. Holding up. His grace was in rough shape but it got patched up, I guess." Another nod. "Sam tweaked his elbow, but he's fine now. Um..." Dean chuckled weakly. "Did you hear about that musical those kids put on about us?"
"I saw it on the Internet, yeah." She smirked lightly. "Destiel."
Dean scoffed. He looked down. "Jamie...I..."
"Don't. Look, I...I'm fine. The kids are fine. They like Sioux Falls. Jody looks in on us. Um, I work weekends at the hospital and Alex babysits. She's good with them. She can handle their powers. We are doing okay here. I can feel Bobby looking out for us here...and I kind of like being the "go to" hunter. These young kids out there who barely got a clue, and the seasoned hunters who need some help in a tight spot...I've kinda found what I'm supposed to do."
Dean nodded. "You're good at it, I hear. ."
Jamie chuckled. "Yeah God of all my aliases who knew Jace Singer would be the one I settled on."
Dean smiled. "As long as you're happy. As long as the kids are safe." He got up. "I guess I better..."
Jamie got up. "Dean...are you..." They met each other's eyes. "See you around."
"No...you won't." They embraced and Dean hurried out the door. The sound of the door slamming echoed into Jamie's soul.
