Chapter Eight – Feelings
The school year had ended, and the rest of the students were heading home for Christmas. As the boys said goodbye to the last of their friends, Felix's mind started wondering about Colin Creevey. The same thought kept going through his head. What would've happened if he had still been Harry Potter? 'I need to talk to someone.' He thought to himself as he waved goodbye to the last of his friends. "Felix you coming for a walk?" Draco asked looking back at his brother. Felix kindly declined and gave his brother a lame excuse. He needed to talk to someone who would understand.
Walking along the corridor that lead to the transfiguration classroom, if there was anyone who could help it would be Professor McGonagall. Entering the classroom, he noticed the grey tabby cat that was his teacher on her desk pampering her claws. "Urm Professor…" the cat looked up and instantly transfigured back into her normal self. "I was wondering if I could ask you for some advice you see I think you'd be the only person who will understand." The elderly lady looked down at the young Malfoy boy and could see the distress in his mind. "Well Mr. Malfoy we better have some tea."
After telling his professor everything that was on his mind, she sat there staring at him. "Well Felix, who do you feel happier being, Felix or Harry?" McGonagall asked knowing the answer would be who he is now. The boy looked up at her, "I'm not sure who I preferred I'm much happier now than what I was before and also much happier having a family that loves me but I feel like if I was still Harry, none of what happened the other day would've happened." He sighed again thinking about Colin. "Felix dear listen to me. You need to start thinking about yourself. You think for everyone else before yourself. Think about what you want. I'm sure you will be surprised by the answer."
The pair continued to talk for another hour and a half before dinner was being served in the great hall. Walking in felt different than normal. The teachers weren't at the table looking down at the four house tables. In fact, there was only one table in the hall and it was full of delicious foods. From fish and chips to beautiful cottage pie and even a traditional roast dinner with any meat you like. Felix sat at the table next to his brother who looked at him with a questioning look. "Where have you been all afternoon?" Draco asked curious as to what his brother had been doing. "Just chatting with Professor McGonagall. Nothing much." Draco seemed satisfied with the answer and turned back to his dinner.
A chime of a spoon hitting glass shook everyone out of their conversations and all eyes turned towards the lady stood at the head of the table. "Now I would first like to thank you all for standing by me here at Hogwarts for the last few weeks of the year just gone and ould just like to announce some new projects happening over the summer. This year I have decided along with my husband Lucius that we are to stay here for the summer and take a week off towards the end so that I can oversee what is going to happen. Now the first thing to happen is that there will be a new perimeter fence built around the edge of the school closing off the Forbidden Forest. The creatures in there as beautiful as some may be are too dangerous to be around young witches and wizards. Number two. No student will be treated differently than another. That means this year the students will be mixed in lessons and sorted into classes that is better suited to them with the more intelligent students taking the harder subjects in the lessons…"
The boys started to drift off as their mother announced her changes. They sat patiently and ate their puddings whilst they watched the faces of the teachers, all of them looking a lot happier under their mothers' rule. "Felix…" Draco called "are you sure you're okay? Just you've been a bit quiet since the attack." Felix sighed "I will tell you when we get back to the dorm. Draco nodded and went back into the conversation.
"… and finally, a brand-new part to the Slytherin common room will be added this year opening up a library for books only written in Parsletongue. Parsel magic may be classed as 'dark magic' but it is still magic and those that have the ability should be able to enhance this skill. That is all enjoy your evening and I shall see you bright and early tomorrow morning." Narcissa nodded to the staff and boys then headed towards her family.
"Boys how about some family time. I've got some news for you." The boys smiled, they loved spending time as a family and would never turn it down. "Draco I would like you to go and fetch Hedwig for me she is in need of some time with Felix. Felix I have some news on your owl." Lucius said as they entered the family room of his quarters. "Felix, sit down I need to tell you something very important. What happened to that Creevey boy couldn't have been avoided if you would have stayed Harry. Albus had put the strongest block he could muster on your magic which would have made you lose the fight that you would have had with your uncle. Tom would have won and Colin Creevey and all the other mudbloods would have died." Lucius had known the boy had been thinking about this for some time and was starting to worry about his son. "But dad how do you know that. I could have won and he would still be alive." Felix was on the verge of tears "I just feel like I'm not dark enough to be a dark wizard." Lucius smiled. "Look at me son. You are one hundred percent dark and there is a way I can show you." As Lucius finished his sentence Draco walked in with Hedwig. "Hedwig!" Felix shouted as he finally got a chance to see his bonded friend.
"Felix, do you know much about owls?" Felix shook his head no. "They can't be bonded. It has to be a magical creature that bonds to you. Talk to her in your mind son." The blonde looked at his dad puzzled. "How?" he asked. "Felix you're not a thick child just talk to her like you would outloud but just in your head." Lucius laughed. As much as he loved his son, he really was a blonde kid. Felix looked back to Hedwig 'Hey girl, how have you been?' The owl chirped before answering 'I am well Felix and may I say I wish you'd have figured this out sooner. Now for the important part…' The boy's eyes went wide as the owl responded. 'I'm not an owl Felix. I'm a Phoenix. A white phoenix to be precise." Felix looked at his bonded shell shocked. He had bonded to a phoenix. How is that possible. 'Can you change back to your normal self?' Felix asked wondering what she'd look like as a phoenix. Before his eyes a bright flash of light surrounded the owl and the next thing, he saw was a beautiful white phoenix. 'Y-you're a white phoenix.' The bird made a chirp that sounded and awful lot like a laugh. "Felix son, a white phoenix is a typically dark bird. They only bond to a wizard with dark magic. You are young son seeing someone die is still not normal for you. But trust me you will get over the fear, and Hedwig will help you with that." Lucius stood up and pulled his son into a tight hug.
The family enjoyed their evening bust sadly it was time for the boys to head to bed. They got to the portrait that allowed them access to their chambers. "Malfoy Draconis" Draco called. Still after all this time Felix still found that password to be hilarious. "Fe, never think you aren't good enough to be part of this family. You're my brother and I love you just as you are." Draco announced as he pulled his brother into a tight hug.
Sorry it's been so long. The story is going to get a little darker so I would like to know of some HP characters that you would have liked to have seen killed off in the original series of books/ films. The next chapter won't be long so keep a look out.
Will xx
