Enjoy en review!

She is running through the halls trying to get there as fast as she can. Everyone else is moving in slowmotion. Her lungs hurt when she is finally standing at the nurses station.

"I am here for Sam Evans." She looks at the nurse with teary eyes, trying to catch her breath.

"What is your relations with Mr. Evans?" The nurse looks back at the screen and Mercedes gasps. If she tells them she is a friend they are never going to let her pass.

"I'm his wife." She fakes a sad smile and the nurse walks away without talking, expecting Mercedes to follow her.

When she arrives at the precise door she exhales a breath she had been holding. "This is his room. He is unconscious for now." With that the nurse walks away leaving Mercedes at the door.

With shaking hands she opens the door. The beeping sounds making her heart hurt. When she looks at the bed she sobs. He is laying there lifeless on all these machines. She walks towards the bed and sits on the chair next to it.

She was the first one they contacted and she dropped everything to be here for him. He would've done the same right?

She brushes a few strands of hair from his face and kisses his forehead. Something she always did when he was sleeping. That's all it was, he was just sleeping.

*13 days later*

Mary had come by every morning to talk to her son, who was still in a coma. Every time she would bring coffee for herself and Mercedes. Today was different though. Mary comes into the room and sees Mercedes huddled up in the chair like a little ball. She is sleeping with a book still in her lap. Mary puts down the cups of coffee and takes away the book.

"Uughh…" She looks from Mercedes to her son who is just opening his eyes. She walks to the other side and holds his hand. "Hey Sam it's me your mom. How are you feeling?" She whispers.

He opens his eyes and sees his mother. The woman who would do anything to make him happy. She looked tired and a little pale. He feels a hand in his one on the other side and moves his head slowly. There was Mercedes sleeping in a chair, holding his hand for dear life.

"Don't wake her. She has been here every night and day since and hasn't had a lot of sleep." She brushes her hand slowly over his cheek. "You scared us. I thought I lost you."

Sam wants to say something but his throat hurts. "You want some water?" He nodded and his mom get's a glass of water with a straw in it. After a few sips he found his voice. "How long?" Is all he can whisper. Mary looks at him with sad eyes. "Too long baby, too long." With that she ends the conversation.

"You want some tea? I'll get you some tea with honey in it for your throat." Mary walks to the door when Sam tries to speak again. "Coffee?" He looks at her with puppy eyes and she gives him a stern glare. It was worth the try Sam thinks. Mary walks away and his eyes go back to Mercedes who is still asleep.

*An hour later*

His mom still hasn't returned and he was now more than a little worried. He feels Mercedes squeeze his hand and he looks up. She stirs in the seat and groans, slowly opening her eyes. She looks up at him and lets go of his hand so she can rub her eyes. "Sam?" She does it again not believing her eyes.

"Hi, Cedes." One of his nicknames for her. He sees multiple emotions running through her mind. It ends on anger, unfortunately for him.

"What the hell were you thinking Samuel Dwight Evans?" She screams at him. "Going behind the wheel like that. You scared the crap out of all of us. Were you short of a marble or something?"

He laughs at the way she gets angry, it's so cute. Don't get him wrong, he knows not to be on her bad side, but this wasn't angry angry. She was just worried sick about him. "I'm sorry." Her eyes soften at the apology. Sam doesn't apologize that much, but with Mercedes it was really easy. "I am so sorry Cedes."

"Don't you ever do this to me again." He shakes his head. "What happened Sam?" He looks at her and instantly feels embarrassed.

How is he going to tell his best friend that Quinn left him and he got drunk behind the wheel because of it. That he was trying to dial Mercedes' phone and that's when he hit the highway rail and his car doubled over. He didn't want her to think that it was her fault because it wasn't. If it was anybody's fault it was his.

"You know they called me. Your phone was still on and it dialed mine. I picked up and was worried because you didn't answer my previous calls. When I answered the phone I was so relieved. My heart broke when a guy answered saying you were in an accident. He told me which hospital they were taking you and here I am."

Well that part solved itself rather quickly he thought. "Well, that is exactly what happened."

"You were drunk." Her eyes aren't judgmental. A little pissed because she knows when he is not telling the whole story.

"I don't wanna talk about it." With that he closes his eyes and it stays silent for a while. He has one question though. "How did you get in here if you were the first to arrive?"

She blushes, it's not that visible but Sam always saw it whenever she did. "Uhm… I kinda said I was your wife."

His eyes grow wider and then he laughs. It is a laugh that is full of joy but he stops when he feels his ribs hurt. "Damn Cedes, what a way to claim a guy." She glares at him and huffs.

"Like you could handle my ass… at all?" He smirks at her and wiggles his brows. She sighs and rolls her eyes.

"So you're both awake how nice." Mary comes in with a cup of tea. "That took you long enough mom."

Mary stares daggers at him while she hands him the cup. "How did you sleep Mercedes?" She looks hopefully at the young girl. "Fine, thank you Mary and thanks for the coffee."

"Don't bother honey." Sam looks at the exchange between the two women. "Don't look like that Samuel. You should thank her you know?" Mercedes blushes again and opens a book.

"Why?" Mercedes looks at his mom with pleading eyes. "Well, she has been here since day one. You have been here thirteen days and she hasn't been away from your side honey. Now if that isn't something I don't know what is." She grabs her bag. "I leave you two to it. Don't wanna be late at my work now do we?" With that she leaves Sam and Mercedes alone.

Mercedes finds the book more interesting and after staring at the same page for nearly 15 minutes Sam clears his throat. "Is that true?" Sam whispers.

She looks up from the book. "Yes." She whispers back and concentrates on the book again. Well that went great he thinks. But he is too tired to argue with her. He closes his eyes and drifts off.
