So yeah, I'm kinda in total lockdown until half of January. I'll probably write a lot, so if you're sick of me I get it.
Please review. Sorry for any errors, perfection is overrated.
I do not own Glee, if I did I would have want to see the reaction of Mercedes when Mike hits her on her ass. (If you missed it, it's when they sing together in the Stevie Wonder episode) I didn't believe my eyes but it happened.
Enjoy!
It's in the middle of the night when Mercedes wakes up from the beeping. She looks up at Sam and sees him frowning and mumbling something. His heart rate rises like it did before and she grabs the comic book. She didn't hesitate and began to read.
After a few minutes his heart rate doesn't slow down and he begins to thrash in his bed. Mercedes eyes are full of terror as she is scared he is going to fall down. She puts the comic book down and gets up. Her hands going to his temples and she massages it.
"Everything is alright, you're safe. I'm here, Mercedes. You're in the hospital." She feels him relax. When she wants to sit down again he grabs her wrist. She looks at his face and sees he is still asleep. He pulls her hand towards his chest and tugs her towards him.
She can't get out of his grasp so there is only one option left. She puts her legs up on the bed and scoots as close to Sam as she can, not wanting to fall off the bed. Her head rests on his chest. After a few minutes Mercedes falls asleep in a bed that she hasn't been in in 13 days.
*Next morning*
Sam wakes up with a warm body next to him. He smiles and then shakes his head. He remembers that he is in the hospital and is confused. Who is next to him? He opens his eyes and hears the light snores of Mercedes. She is lying peacefully against him with her head on his chest and one leg over his good one. He pulls her closer, scared that she might fall off.
At that Mercedes stirs and groans. "Good morning sunshine." She smiles against his chest, but doesn't move. "Morning." He laughs at her casualty of the situation as she nuzzles further into his chest.
"Not that I love waking up with you in my arms wifey, but why are you in my bed?" His curiosity got the better of him. Did she do this when he was in a coma he thinks to himself.
She tilts up her head at that, smiling. "Well, technically it's your fault." She giggles at his expression. How did this could be his fault, he didn't ask did he? "Okay, I will put you out of you misery. You had a nightmare and was thrashing in your bed so I calmed you down by massaging your temples. When you were calm again I wanted to sit down, but you grabbed my wrist and held it close to your chest. There was no way I was going to get out of your grip, so I joined you." She puts her head down and snuggles him like it was the most normal thing in the world. And it was between them. They have been doing it since Mercedes was scared of the thunder when they were little.
"Ooh… thank you." He blushes. He was having a nightmare of the accident. But in this nightmare he wasn't alone in the car. Mercedes was sitting next to him and before he could reach her she was tossed out of the car. It scared him to death.
"No problem. It was the best sleep I had in the last few weeks." He smirks and she knows it without looking at him. "Don't flatter yourself. I have been sleeping in that chair for the past two weeks." His smile fades and pulls her closer. He kisses the top of her head.
"What would I do without you?" He feels her smile against his chest. "Well, die apparently." He laughs at that and she joins him. She can always make him laugh even in these horrible situations.
*A few hours later*
Mercedes is showering when Mary is back. Sam is trying to figure out a game on his phone when she clears her throat. He looks up at her and she looks concerned at him. "Mom, what's wrong?"
She grabs his hand. "Are you okay? I mean mentally?" He wants to roll his eyes but thinks better of it. "I'm fine mom."
Her breath hitches and he knows she is trying not to cry. "Honey, you almost died. You were drinking and driving. Mercedes told me what you told her. Quinn left you."
The words still sting. Quinn had left him, the love of his life. The one he had promised to marry one day, to grow old with. He didn't even got an explanation. Well, he got one just not a very good one. "I don't wanna talk about it mom."
She sighs. "Okay, I get it. At least talk to Mercedes about it." He frowns at that. "Why?"
"Because that is the least you could do for the girl. She has been here and dropped everything for you. She hasn't been to school, she has been fired from work because she didn't want to leave you. She even read you a comic book every time your heart rate rises. She thought it soothed you, but I think it was her voice. No matter what it was she was here for you and the real question is would you do the same? Ever since you were involved with Quinn you didn't pay any attention to Mercedes, but here she is." Mary was now getting angry with her son. How could he be so cold towards Mercedes just because she didn't like Quinn.
"Mom, that's not true. I still hung out with Mercedes while I was with Quinn. But you are right, I should thank her for everything that she did for me and talk to her. I should also apologize for my behavior if it had hurt her in any way." He is an honorable man and would never hurt his best friend on purpose. Quinn just always took up his time.
"That's my boy. I need to run. Call me if you know more okay?" She kisses his forehead and then runs out the door. Hugging Mercedes when she sees her and saying goodbye to her as well.
"Where is your mom going?" She look over her shoulder at the now closed door. "Who knows." He answers and she smiles at him.
"Cedes?" He says hesitantly.
"Hmm." She is still drying her hair with the towel while sitting next to his bed.
"You read to me?" She looks up in shock. "Yes." She whispers.
"And you didn't go to school?" She nods. "And you got fired because you were here with me?" She nods again not looking him in the eyes. "And you didn't get enough attention when I was with Quinn?" Wrong fucking thing to say is all he could think. He sees her face going from embarrassment to anger real quick. He doesn't mean it like that, but it was the truth right?
"What did you just say?" He is definitely on the wrong side now. "I am not gonna ask you again Samuel." Yep, he is in trouble.
"I… uhm… I didn't mean it like that. My mom told me that I didn't pay any attention to you when I was with Quinn. But I didn't think it was true and—"
"It is true. But it wasn't me you should pay attention. It is our friendship. Every time we had plans you canceled because Quinn was laying on the bed with her legs spread for you. Any time I called you up crying you said you couldn't talk long, because you were at Quinn's. At the end I didn't even bother to text you, because your time with her was more important than me. You didn't care for my problems at all. So no, I didn't need your attention I just needed your friendship." When did she start crying?
He is stunned at the way Mercedes talks. She never really talks about sex, or boys or anything of that sort. Her being so explicit tells him how she really feels about the situation. He failed her as a friend big time. And still, here she was. "I don't know what to say Cedes. I was a fool and so totally in love with Quinn that I didn't see what it did to you, to us. Please forgive me." She looks away.
He doesn't like begging, but when he is wrong he needs to own up to it. "Please, Mercy?" He knows he gets her with that nickname. He called her that once when they had their first kiss together. He whispered it in her ear before their lips met for the first time. It had a heavy meaning behind it and he never called her that again. He uses it now because he doesn't want to lose her over someone that isn't even worth it. Was anybody worth losing Mercedes over?
She looks back at him and he holds out his arms a sign for her to hug him. She moves but stops halfway. "I don't wanna hurt you." Even when she is mad she still thinks about him. "I'll be fine just put your arms around my neck." She did what he asks and his arms slide around her waist, slowly going up and down. "I am so sorry. Please forgive me."
She pulls back a little and nods, kissing him on his forehead. A sweet gesture that she only does when he is asleep, at least when she thinks he is asleep. She wants to pull away but he holds her in place, not ready to let her go. They look in each others eyes and he gives her an Eskimo kiss. She giggles at his dorkiness, but that quickly fades when his eyes go to her lips. Her breath hitches and she moves in closer, not sure why she is doing it.
"Mr. Evans." The doctor walks in and Mercedes jumps back. "I have your results here and… hello Mrs. Evans." He looks at Mercedes and she is quite confused. Then she remembers her lie and smiles. "You results are back and you can leave in a couple of hours. The only thing you need is a nurse that can help you around the house. Now here I have a list of capable—"
"No." Sam says sternly. He doesn't like strange people around his house or touching him for that matter.
"I get that it's a bit new for you, but with your leg it's necessary." The doctor looks desperately at Mercedes. "I'll do it." Sam looks at her with big eyes. "I can take care of him. I've had taken care of my mom before she died." The doctor looks at her and sighs in relieve. "Okay, it's settled then. I'll have the papers ready in a few hours." The doctor leaves and Sam is still looking at Mercedes.
"What?" He sighs. "Why did you do that?" She shrugs. "Because you hate it when strange people are in your home and I can do it." He looks at her with tears in his eyes. "You don't…"
"I want too." She smiles. What did he do to deserve a friend like Mercedes?
So what did you think? Mother knows best am I right? Stay safe and review!
