2005, New York, Oscorp Tower.
I sat with a microscope in the genetics department of the Oscorp industries as I looked at a few chemical compositions that were to be used for a certain project in the future.
"Harry, you need to take some rest, you've been at it since three days ago" came the voice of my colleague and one of the greatest genetic scientists in this building.
"Sorry, but I cannot help but marvel at the sequence you came up with for a mutated spider, I know you had a head start with that secret project that you and dad are working on for a few years, but still, this is really on another level," I said as I sighed, letting go of the microscope to run my hand through my auburn hair in amazement and frustration.
Even after I had managed to graduate from MIT at the age of 15 over five years ago and hailed as a genius, I was still left in awe at some of the kind of things the people of this world were capable of.
When dad had ordered me to go to school at 10, I had immediately started to use my power to rush through the mandatory education and graduated from MIT with specializations in Genetics, electronics, business, and Nanotechnology. I did it in a record time, stunning both my father and the private tutors that were hired for me to work after school.
Because I F*cking hated school.
Anyways, soon after graduation, Dad hired me in the company as one of the Genetic researchers to gain experience in the work, it was here that I met one of Dad's closest friend and trusted researcher, Parker, and his wife Parker.
While working under him, I also became acquainted with Connors.
Together, the four of us were soon hailed as the best Genetic researchers in the building, although I was mostly considered to still be a rookie.
It was in 2001 when the Parkers were celebrating the birthday of their one-year-old son, Peter Parker, that one of the greatest challenges our team had faced would come to us and Richard would have his greatest breakthrough.
Apparently, General Thaddeus Ross had started a project called 'The Bio-Tech Force Enhancement Project', a project whose goal was to develop supersoldiers, Dad had gotten hold of this incident thanks to his connection to some kind of a secret organization called 'Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division'
That was one mouthful name if I ever hear one.
Thanks to this information, Dad had tasked us to work on creating our own version of the Supersoldier serum used on Captain America using the data that was stolen from General Ross by some of the Spies from the previously mentioned organization.
This project was launched for two reasons.
The first reason was that Oscorp industries had recently been outpaced in many areas by their competitors, mainly, Stark Industries and Hammer industries, Dad believed that cracking the Super Soldier serum would help in winning the company a lot of favor from the Pentagon and will propel the company forward.
The second reason was that Dad seems to personally have a grudge against General Ross and hoped to humiliate him by craking the formula first.
Apparently, back in the '90s, Dad had the formula of a super-soldier serum developed alongside his former partner and the now-retired Genetics researcher, Dr. Mendel Stromm.
The Human Performance Enhancer.
But the project was shud down before any concrete results could be found because of General Ross who replaced General Slocum when a few scandals about the General had forced him to retire early.
According to dad, Ross had ordered Oscorp to hand over the formula for the Performance Enhancer along with all the research that Dad and had on it under the threat of having all military funding removed from the company.
Dad suspects that he was now using the very same formula for his new Bio-tech research.
Fortunately, Dad had the original formula memorized and had now given it to Richard Parker to develop.
And Richard Parker did not fail.
He and his wife worked tirelessly to create a better version of the serum while also testing the formula on spiders to test their theories.
And then, a miracle happened.
The spiders on which the Parker couple was experimenting slowly started to show traits that could not be found in any other form of spiders in nature.
but the thing that actually shocked me was the passive effect that the serum was having on the spiders.
The serum originally gave a power boost of 800% but had a nasty side-effect of driving the user insane, Richard circumvented this issue by reducing the power boost to 300% while also removing the intelligence boost to make sure that it would not drive the user insane.
What he did not expect was that the serum would trigger a miniature Cambrian explosion on the spider population he had used the serum on.
The Spiders were forcefully evolved into a state they would only be able to reach after millions of years of evolution, hence the massive ability boost they had.
In short, Parker had created a serum that forced the user to evolve into a future version of their species, A.K.A, Mutants.
When I first observed the serum at work, I was thoroughly spooked into thinking that this would cause the rise of Mutants in society, fortunately, put my worries to rest when he said that the Serum was not ready and he would only release it when the effects it had on the genetics of the species it was injected into would be removed.
While was musing about the Serum, Dad walked urgently into the room with a barely contained grin.
"I just got informed, two hours ago, the Bio-Tech Force Enhancement Project facility was destroyed by an unknown party and all the research that General Ross had on the Super Soldier serum, including my old Human Performance enhancer as well as the blood of Captain America which had Erskine's formula was lost"
I watched in amusement as he tried to suppress his urge to dance on the spot in joy.
"That is good news Norman, who knows what the government would have done if they got their hands on a working Super soldier serum?" Richard said as Dad's face became serious.
"You are right Richard, that is why I am changing the parameters of the project we have been working on, from now, we will no longer focus on the military applications of the serum, instead, we will try to adopt it for civilian use as a kind of a cure for most kind of injuries and diseases"
At that moment, I could not be more proud of the man that was my father. While most entrepreneurs would try to capsize on such a chance to win the favor of the military, he was instead, focused on helping the public instead.
Richard gave dad a look before he shook his head with a hidden smile as he said.
"Anyways, I hope you are ready for Peter's birthday party tomorrow?"
"Of course, I have already picked up a good gift for Peter that I know he will like," Dad said as I gave him a deadpan look.
"Don't you mean that you had Bernard pick a gift for you when your original idea of giving a book on advanced genetics to a five-year-old boy was rejected by both me and Bernard?"
No matter how much time passes, my father is still incapable of interacting with children in a meaningful way.
I watched as Richard and Dad argued about the gifts that were supposed to be given to a five-year-old and started to walk towards the door.
This peaceful life of mine, I wish it would remain like this forever.
