Oscorp Tower.
The first thing I saw after waking up was sitting on a nearby chair, reading a book while also keeping an eye on the laptop that was set on another chair near him.
"How long was I out?" I asked him, startling him into dropping his book and pushing away the chair with the laptop. He immediately rushed to my bedside while checking my vital signs, once he confirmed that everything was okay, he turned a serious glare on me.
"Harry, what were you thinking?" shouted at me as he helped me sit upon the bed while multiple automated scanners were studying me, showing the vital signs as well as scanning for any abnormalities.
"...I think I may not have been thinking straight at that moment" I admitted, a little bit guilty about making the doctor worry about me.
"You are lucky that the original serum was removed from the vault a long ago, I fear to think what would have happened if that was not the case"
"Wait! that was not the original serum?" I half-shouted, feeling shocked and a little betrayed, turns out all my preparation to make sure I did not become a deranged madman was all for nothing.
"Apparently, the original formula was removed from the vault by Norman a long time ago, fearing that someone stupid enough would try to use the serum for themselves,"
"If the real serum was removed a long time ago then what the hell did I inject myself with?" This time, I was unable to keep myself from shouting, I may have partial regeneration which would protect me from literally anything but i would still feel the effects of any harmful chemical injected into.
slowly sat down on the nearby chair as he rubbed his eyes with his only hand.
"...It seems that Richard knew that you or Norman would one day try to take the Human Performance Enhancer regardless of the risks, so he put a hidden program in the vault database. The program was created in such a way that it would only activate when either you or Norman would try to access the Horizon project using your fingerprints. The program would detect your authorization and send a signal to your personal servers at the Osborn mansion, unlocking a ghost drive that was hidden away in your systems, only accessible by you, Norman, and me"
Frankly, I was quite impressed and overwhelmed by the forethought that Richard had put into all of this, but it still did not answer my question.
"Well? What did the drive contain?"
"It seems that before his death, Richard had managed to perfect the Human Performance Enhancer, the same serum that you took for yourself"
I immediately got up from the bed despite protesting.
Looking towards the nearby mirror, I could see a distinct difference between my body from before the serum was used and after its use.
My body was now most probably the example of peak human anatomy, I felt stronger, faster.
I walked towards the mirror for a closer look but ended up knocking a beaker from the nearby table.
My body reacted on instinct as I grabbed the fragile object in midair, without breaking it with my super strength.
It seems that my body is able to adjust to my newfound abilities instinctively, quite useful all things considered.
I turned towards and asked.
"What else was on that drive?"
"Richard had also stored a lot of information on many of his pet projects, including the breeding process for a new kind of spiders that would allow for the production of a special kind of silk that would be extremely durable, fireproof, waterproof, naturally non conducting and strong enough to withstand a lot of pressure, he also left behind a little gift for Norman"
"What gift?"
"A cure" the voice startled me enough that I ended up turning at inhuman speed towards the door.
There, standing at the door in all his glory, looking just like he did over five years ago, was none other than my father in this life, Norman Osborn.
smiled as he walked to stand near me.
"Apparently, the serum was not the only thing he left behind for you, he had also created a prototype for a cure that would cure the disease that Norman had, granted, it took a little tweaking from me using the decay rate algorithm he left for me, but in the end, we managed to cure him"
I was only half-listening to him as I slowly walked toward dad and hugged him, it was comforting when he returned the high while laughing.
Now, I no longer felt like a sword was hanging over my head anymore.
But then, another questing rose to my mind.
"Wait, just when did you get the cure Dad? In fact how long was I out?"
At this question, Dad once again got the familiar stoic look on his face as looked away.
"...Well, when the security first found you in the Vault, we immediately had you relocated to the medical wing of the tower where we had to stabilize your condition, once you were stable enough, you immediately fell into a coma. Your body was changing and evolving every day without pause and that took a lot of energy out of you, see we decided to keep you sedated and continue to give you the required nutrients through other means due to the fact that we knew you would feel hellish pain if you were awake. It took over a month for your body to stop changing"
"Wait a minute, I was out for an entire month?"
"Yes"
I slowly sat on the bed again as I tried to understand what I just learned.
An entire month, a month where I did not visit Peter, where I missed all my appointments.
The next few days are going to be a complete paperwork nightmare for me.
I slowly looked towards the TV that was in the room, hoping to find something to help me from the predicament.
It was then that I saw the advertisement for the Grand Prix in Monaco that was going to start in a few days, immediately, an idea came to my head that could potentially save from that paperwork and.
"...Hey Dad, since I just woke up I am not in the condition to work, so can you take over the work for a few days so that I can go for a vacation in Monaco and attend the Grand Prix?"
Dad gave a look that he used to give me whenever I escaped from school to go with my friends to an arcade or when he found me trying to make a rocket-powered taser to prank a bully at the school.
"...incidentally, I had sent the prototype Horizon suit to the Monaco branch to modify its power source and weapons with those of your own design, you can attend the Grand Prix but you will have to check on the suit's progress before you do so," he said in a stern way.
Meaning, Operation escape paperwork was a complete failure.
"Wait, why are you working on the suit? I thought the Horizon project was scrapped?"
"While I agree that Stark's suits are much better than our own, we will still need to present something to the public if Oscorp is to survive against Stark Industries, and while we wont be able to get our hands on the Arc reactors, your Cold Fusion project is still a viable clean power source that we could sell to the government"
The Cold Fusion reactors were something that I came up with a few years ago but never put much thought into.
how could I develop something like that with all my heart when the same power source was once used within an older generation of sentinel units back in my old world before they were replaced with much more powerful miniature fusion drives.
"Fine, you win," I said with a sigh as Dad smirked at me.
You may have won this round old man, but next time, I will be the victor.
