2011, Monaco.
Getting out of my car, I headed straight for the Oscorp lab located in the city dedicated to clean energy research and renewable power research programs.
I was immediately greeted upon entry by the manager of this branch and followed him into the facility until I finally met the man that was responsible for modifying the Horizon suit with the new Cold Fusion reactor along with weaponizing the glider.
"Mr. Osborn!, I cannot express how good it is to finally meet you"
"Dr. Octavius, It is good to meet you, I heard a lot about you from Dad," I said as the middle-aged man gave a bright smile as he led me inside.
"If it were not for Norman, I would never have been able to achieve my dream, and of course, I cannot express how thankful I am that you allowed me to study your Cold Fusion theory papers which allowed for me to finally stabilize the Tritium based Fusion reactor prototype I had been working on for over 20 years"
"That is actually one of the reasons why I am here today, I wanted to see the prototype myself and assess its stability so that we can move on from the prototype phase to actually making it official, Oscorp has already received three orders for this reactor to be built by Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. if the project is a success that is," I said as the smile on the man's face grew even bigger.
I could relate to his joy on some level, after all, it's not every day that a man gets to fulfill his life long goal and not end up losing anything in return.
Apparently, was one of the researchers that was recruited over five years ago, before dad fell ill. He was put in charge of the renewable energy program to try and create an alternative for the fossil fuels that were used today.
Of course, he faced the same problem as everyone else trying to develop a fusion power source, containment problems, and negative output. This is where my design of the Cold Fusion reactor derived from the Sentinels of my previous world helped.
He theorized that using Tritium to create a sustained fusion reactor would provide power to an entire city for at least a decade, over ten times more than an Arc reactor of the same size which would only produce enough power for one year at most before it's palladium core needs to be replaced, however, the Arc reactor is still better than the fusion reactor considering the rarity of the elements used for their fuel. While Palladium can be found in enough abundance on the planet, Tritium is a very rare resource. Only three to four kilograms of radioactive Tritium is found on Earth Naturally. Although it can also be produced artificially in a nuclear fission reactor using lithium-6, the gains are too small for the price paid, thus it is not a viable production method.
However, recently we discovered that a large amount of Tritium was located on Moon, but since Oscorp did not have any dedicated space spaceships or launch pads, we had to negotiate with other corporations.
That was also one of the reasons why I arrived in Monaco today, the CEO of the Life Foundation was going to come to the Grand Prix and I was hoping to negotiate with him to sell a few of his spaceships and launch pads to us so that I could start working on modifying them to start mining operations on the Moon.
" , have you thought about the idea that I gave you yesterday?" he asked as we passed one of the testing areas for my new Horizon suit which was now being outfitted with the cold fusion reactor the size of a large bottle on it's back while its glider was being outfitted with a confidential weapons system I designed myself. Specifically designed to counter other powered armors.
"Yes, I like your idea of removing the A. I in the limbs and replacing it with an advanced V.I and selling it to the emergency response units of the world, In fact, I have already passed on the idea to Dad who is running the company in my place for a few days, he has also approved of its design and already has a team working on creating a prototype of it" I said as once again the doctor's face lit up in happiness.
Originally, he had wanted to use four artificial limbs made from a tungsten alloy possessing an extremely powerful A.I. to create a sustained fusion, but the idea of the A.I. controlled limbs connected to the human mind with nothing but a small inhibitor chip standing in its way to control his mind did not sit well with me, So I had him stop developing them the day I learned about it a few days ago.
Instead, we were going to use an in build stabilizer derived from my own cold fusion system to stabilize his fusion reactor, while he was saddened that he will not get to use his, admittedly badass, robotic limbs he was still happy to see his lifetime project near completion.
"On that note, how is my new helmet coming along?" I asked.
"I already have a team working on it but finding out if it really works is quite tricky, considering the fact that there is no such thing as a telepath," he said, barely hiding his contempt at the word 'telepathy'.
Otto Octavius is one of the people who does not believe in the existence of humans capable of telepathy and other things that Mutants are capable of, and he is not the only such individual in the company or the rest of the world.
This is one of the reasons why I only use the physical aspects of my power instead of its energy absorption and manipulation aspects.
The world is not yet ready to know about the existence of Mutants, at least about me. I have still yet to confirm if the mutants exist in this world, but the disease inherited in the Osborn family leads me to believe that someone out there knows a lot about the X-gene, meaning that there must be other mutants in the world, hidden.
I cannot allow myself to use my powers publically, at least not with my identity exposed. I did not want to cause the exposure of the Mutant's existence and cause this world to develop its own version of the Sentinels to hunt down my kind.
Some may call me paranoid but I cannot help but shudder to think what this world would produce to kill my kind if push came to shove, especially with individuals like Stark running around.
I can still vividly recall all the people close to me that I lost to the Sentinels, even as powerful as they were, the Sentinels always faced the problem of extreme energy consumption even with their miniature Fusion cells, that was why they always traveled in transport vessels instead of flying everywhere. It was also one of the reasons why some of my people were able to escape those abominations.
But, imagining a Sentinel with the Arc reactors as their power sources causes me to shudder in absolute horror.
So I began to work on a new helmet to go with my Horizon suit, to hide my identity as well as shield my mind from any telepaths, if they even exist in the first place.
I had the helmet made from a strange substance that was found by Oscorp in Greece in the 1990s.
The metal was gold in color and was extremely durable, some researchers in Oscorp even believed it to be as strong as Captain America's shield. But we never did find a use for this metal until I started to study it.
I used my powers to try and mold the metal but was shocked to find just how durable it was, it took me five days to even force the metal to change shape at all, it wasn't until I analyzed its atomic structure that I started to remember exactly what this metal was.
It was the same material that was used in Magneto's helmet back in my world, a helmet capable of keeping even the most powerful telepaths from his mind. I had come across one of the helmet copies that he had lost in a battle against the Sentinels in New York when I was a young boy back in my old world. that was the reason why I knew this metal in the first place.
I was very excited when I remembered about this metal, The Adamantine, and immediately used my power to mold the metal into the shape of a helmet before I had it shipped here to be fitted with the G.O.B.L.I.N Hud system along with everything else I would need for the Horizon suit.
Soon, we reached the chamber where the prototype for the Fusion reactor was being constructed while Otto passed on a datapad to me.
The entire project looked to be completely stable from what I could read from the datapad, but you can never be too careful.
"We just completed the prototype two days ago and we are ready to turn it on at any moment"
"I don't think it is a good idea to initiate our experiment on foreign soil, pack up , you are headed to New York with me while I send a few people to ship the prototype back home to start testing in a controlled environment," I said as gave me a puzzled look.
"I didn't know Oscorp tower had enough space to house a Nuclear Fusion reactor in its basement?"
"It doesn't Doctor, but we cannot have such a dangerous experiment in a public building, so Dad had already started construction on an underwater test chamber under the Hudson River the moment he recruited you for this project five years ago, it is built specifically for this prototype so that if something goes wrong, we can drown the entire facility in the water"
I watched as 's face went sour at the idea of his project being drowned before it was replaced with a reluctant acceptance. As a scientist, he was aware that such measures were necessary for a dangerous project like his own.
I handed back the datapad to him as I turned around.
"Well, now that I have completed the inspection that I was supposed to do, I am now headed to the VIP table I booked near the race circuit, It is about time I took a vacation, care to join me, doctor?" I said as Otto's face once again morphed into amusement.
"I guess I can come with you, Rosalie has already headed towards the race since she had nothing to do on her part today and I already completed my duties for today before you arrived," he said as he took off his lab coat to head out with me and join his wife in watching the Grand Prix.
Finally, I can get a calm and relaxing vacation without having to worry about anything.
