Chapter 1.

It was that time a year again, the magical time of year, this Christmas was going, to be the best one in a long time for Jennifer Jareau.

Sitting at her desk, Jennifer sat with her back leaned against the chair, playing with a strand of her long blonde wavy hair that sat perfectly under her shoulders. Her phone resting on her ear as she listened to her mother on the other end of the phone.

"I know mom, I do" JJ sighed.

"Sweetie it's just great news that you're coming here for Christmas this year," Sandy spoke

"Yeah, I thought Henry deserved to see a small-town Christmas", JJ smiled to herself a little

"When are you arriving?" Sandy asked curious to know

"Tomorrow lunchtime, I just need to finish packing and we'll be setting off first thing," JJ spoke.

"Jen, what's bothering you?" Sandy asked.

"Mom, honestly, as much as I know I haven't been back there since I was eighteen, I think it will be nice to come home." JJ sighed

"It will be, I'll let you get off, call me when you set off tomorrow," Sandy said.

"You got it." JJ smiled hanging up the phone

JJ placed her phone down on her desk, running her hands over her temples.

"Wow, that bad?" Tara asked laughing as she entered JJ's office.

Opening her eyes, JJ looked at her friend, her colleague. "My mom"

"Oh," Tara said taking a seat, "The heading home for Christmas phone call?"

JJ nodded, leaning back. "I haven't been there since I was eighteen"

Tara nodded. "You will be fine, and Henry is going to love it"

JJ nodded "He will the Christmas markets, picking out a tree, the garden to make snowmen in" JJ smiled.

"Speaking of, It's almost three o clock," Tara said looking at her watch.

"And I better go" JJ smiled starting to grab her things.

"Have a great Christmas, and drinks when I'm back?" JJ said hugging her friend

"I'll have the tequila waiting" Tara winked at her.

Watching all the school kids ran out into the playground, JJ couldn't help but smile as her son Henry ran into her arms.

"Mommy" Henry hugged her.

"Hey, buddy." JJ smiled ruffling his long blond hair.

"Christmas?" He smiled widely

JJ laughed, "Still a few weeks away but remember were heading to Grandmas for the month"

Henry's eyes went big "YAY"

"C'mon little man let's go home" JJ smiled taking his hand

"And you'll always be my baby star" JJ closed the book watching as Henry slept peacefully, kissing his head, JJ slowly got up from the bed turning off the light she closed his door, making her way back into the living room.

Getting the half-empty bottle of wine out of the fridge JJ poured herself a glass, Gathering up her things she started to finish off the packing.

Opening her eyes, JJ felt someone jump on her.

"Mommy time to get up" Henry climbed on her.

"Buddy It's still super early," JJ said ruffling his hair.

"I hungry" He looked at her

Letting out a yawn, JJ climbed out of bed grabbing her dressing gown. "C'mon let's feed you little monster"

"No Monster" Henry ran out of the room.

JJ chuckled to herself turning on the living room light seeing it was still dark outside.

"Juice?" JJ asked.

"Juice" Henry giggled

"Mama needs coffee," JJ said yawning again.

"OK buddy, once we've eaten our eggs we have to get a shower and get dressed, can you be a big boy and watch some cartoons, while I shower?"

Henry nodded, eating his eggs "Yes mommy"

"Perfect" JJ smiled kissing the top of his head, "Eat up"

Pulling the jumper over her head, JJ pulled her long locks out down her back, checking herself over in the mirror, she sat down on her bed, pulling on her boots. Walking into the living room, she saw Henry sat in his blanket with his frog teddy watching cartoons.

"Henry Jareau, we will be leaving soon, time to get you dressed. Leave blanky and Mr frog we don't want to lose them."

Henry nodded, jumping off the sofa, "Clothes mommy?"

"On your bed, shout if you need help OK?" JJ said watching him walk to his room.

Turning off the TV, JJ grabbed Henry's blanket and teddy, placing them in his rucksack for the car. Grabbing her phone and charger she placed them in her bag next to her luggage.

"Mommy, Me help shoes" Henry shouted

JJ laughed to herself walking into her son's room, she was proud at how mature he was for his age to be able to dress on his own but tying shoes was still an issue.

"There we go bud, you ready to go?" JJ asked standing up.

"Yeah!" Henry said smiling.

"Put your jacket on and let's get on the road Mr"

Looking through the wind mirror, JJ noticed Henry had fallen asleep, giving her time to cope with her own thoughts, she thought she was doing the right thing bringing Henry here, but for herself, she knew she was about to deal with a lot of things from the past things she never fully dealt with on her own.

"Hey Buddy time to wake up we are here" JJ shouted to Henry

"Here?" He asked

"Welcome to East Allegheny Henry" JJ smiled

Pulling up into her mother's drive or as most would say their childhood home, JJ stopped the engine taking it all in. Seeing the front door open, JJ smiled at her mom. Opening the back door, JJ let Henry out of his car seat as he ran to see her.

"NANNA" Henry screamed

"My baby boy" Sandy smiled hugging him.

Closing the door, JJ grabbed Henry's bag

"Welcome home" Sandy smiled hugging JJ.

Taking a deep breath, JJ took in her surroundings watching as Henry and her mom headed inside.

"Home" JJ whispered to herself.
