Leaning back against the pillow Kate smiled watching Mike as he peeled his jumper off. Making sure he wasn't looking she pulled her phone from under her pillow she grinned putting her plan in to action. Sliding through her home screen she loaded up a new app she downloaded. Scrolling through the available sounds she eventually found the one she was looking for. Holding down the button she tried not to laugh.

'prfft' the sound echoed around the tent. Looking over Mike shook his head puzzled unsure at what he had heard. Grinning she pressed the button again. This time it came out louder in a different pitch.

"was that you?" Mike asked turning to look at her.

"was what me?" she asked trying to look innocent pressing the button again on her phone which she had hidden so he couldn't see what she was doing.

"that" he said as the fart sound echoed around the tent. "did you just let one go?" he whispered

"what, excuse me. Woman don't fart, we conceal and don't feel whilst you on the other hand just let the storm rage on" she said her mouth twitching in to a smile.

"what are you hiding?" he asked looking at her.

"nothing" she said her eyes falling to where she had concealed her phone.

Reaching over he tried to make a grab for what she was hiding.

"no" she squealed giggling as he pushed her back against the pillows.

"shhhh" Nicole hissed from the other side of the tent

Pinning her to the mattress Mike began running his hand under the pillows trying to find what she had concealed.

"Aha" he called triumphantly sitting up pulling her phone from under the doona. "a fart sound app. Seriously how old are you?" he grinned

"44" she grinned looking at him

"and how did you figure that out considering today is your 45th birthday" he smiled looking down at her.

"yeah but you don't actually turn your age of your birthday until the time you were born and I wasn't born till 5 to midnight so I actually have..." she looked at her watch "another 2 hours till I am 45" she grinned

"really?" he questioned

"yeah, Mum was not happy I was born so late." she smiled

"shhhh" Nicole hissed again.

Sniggering Kate had to bury her face in to Mikes shoulder to muffle the sound of her laughing.

"you okay?" Mike asked grinning as Kate was in a fit of hysterics

"can you two please be QUIET!" Nicole shouted through the tent shining her torch across the gap between them

"there's us told" Mike grinned as they both collapsed in laughter.

They heard Nicole groan in frustration over the other side of the tent.

Giggling softly pulled the blanket up over them. It was funny, their daughter telling them to be quiet the roll being reversed. It reminded Kate of guide camps when they would all be talking long in to the night and having secret midnight feasts.

Mike lay awake for ages unable to get to sleep. The feeling of the airbed each time he or Kate moved was making him feel sea sick with the air moving through. Looking over he could see Kate was asleep. Leaning over he brushed her hair off her face placing a kiss on her temple.

"Happy birthday Kate" he whispered

Yawning Kate awoke early the next morning with the sounds of the birds singing in the trees surrounding their garden. Sitting up she reached over pulling a hoodie towards her that she had brought out in case it got cold.

"I can think of a better way to keep warm" Mike whispered wrapping his arms around her waist kissing her neck.

Leaning back in to him she moaned softly pulling away she turned to face him. "no... I am too cold" she grinned pulling the hoodie over her head. Lying back down she sighed this was one of the best ways to actually wake up with the birds singing and the light coming in naturally through the canvas.

"are we going to have a camp out breakfast?" Kate asked

"of course. We can have those sausages with the beans and the rest of the bread rolls." he smiled

Looking at her phone she could see it was almost 8 am.

"we best get up" she sighed "and I am gasping for a brew" she smiled unzipping their compartment.

As she walked out, she heard the Kids compartment open and 2 out of 3 of her Kids faces appeared.

"morning" Kate smiled. "did you sleep well?" she asked

"no. Can we go inside now" Nicole grumbled

"we are going to have a camp out breakfast. Sausages and beans" Kate smiled

"yummy" Grace called jumping up dashing out of her sleeping bag.

"come on Chris" Kate called as her little boy sat up, his hair all stuck up in a static way. Grinning she held her hand out for him to climb out. "Nicole come on please breakfast won't be long"

Watching as mike sorted breakfast on the barbeque Kate sighed sipping her brew. It wasn't the best nights sleep she had had as the airbed completely went flat at some point in the night meaning every rock and hole in the grass could be felt and she had a particularly large hole right under her shoulder but it was exhilarating sleeping in the great outdoors she felt alert and wide awake. Looking at her family she was grateful for this time together as both their jobs meant moments like this were few and far between. She made a secret promise to herself even when lockdown was over that they would do more things like this.

so hope you like this. the fart machine idea was originally meant to me mike playing the prank but a video appeared on my google feed of a interview with Lisa McCune on the project (I think) and it was about her sneaking one on to the set of how to stay married. anyway sorry its been so long but I have been really struggling with how to fit this one. anyway hope you enjoy and let me know what you think.
