A/N: Prompt 25 from cjnwriter: "Sleigh ride."
A 221B
Sleigh Ride
Snow at last!
Excited whispers,
Building up
In Baker Street.
Softly falling,
Sparkling snowflakes;
Swiftly running
Boot-clad feet.
~0~
Scarves acquired with haste
And laughter,
Mittens grabbed
And coats put on.
Tea and toast
At whirlwind speed;
A cheerful wave
And then they're gone.
~0~
Young
Enthusiastic figures
Head towards
The snow lined
Park.
None prepared
To waste a single minute
Of the hours
Till dark.
~0~
Arthur pulls
His recent gift;
Hands entwined
In twisted rope.
Millicent
Is close behind him,
Bundled up
And full of hope.
~0~
Through the gates,
Towards the others
Christmas greetings
Fill the air.
Makeshift,
Homemade,
Mismatched sledges;
Fashioned with
Such loving care.
~0~
All around,
The city wakes;
A crisp and frosty
Christmas Day.
Couples, arm in arm,
Small children,
Gentlefolk
In horse-drawn sleigh.
~0~
A steeply sloping
Bank of snow,
From tree line
Down to
Frosted lake.
A scramble
To the very top;
Chaotic
Foot prints
In their wake.
~0~
Then...
Leaping onto
Rough-nailed wood,
Two fit together,
Limbs well-placed;
Launched downhill
Midst shrieks
Of laughter,
Gathering speed,
Arms tight
Round waist.
~0~
Sprays of snow
And ice catch breath,
Hair blows back;
They hurtle past
Trees and bushes,
Others sledging;
Never have they
Moved so fast.
~0~
Levelling out,
The sledge slows down;
Breathless smiles,
Their journey's done.
Back they go
To start again;
A perfect day has
Just begun.
