The following morning the weather had no let up, the skies were grey and gloomy, the rain coming down in sheets and compared with the past week or so the temperatures were much lower than they had been.

Rolling over Kate could feel the space next to her was empty and cold. Like it hadn't been slept in. Yawning she pulled the covers up over her head wrapping herself up. She still felt so tired from the patrol and she felt aches all over. It wasn't like she had done anything strenuous.

Hearing the door open she pushed herself up as best as she could against her pillow smiling as she saw Mike walk in.

"hey" she smiled yawning slightly

"Morning" he smiled placing a mug of tea on the cabinet beside her. Before sitting on the edge of the bed

"what time is it" she asked picking up the tea sipping it.

"just after 11" he smiled softly

"what!" she said "why didn't you wake me!" she said trying to slid from the bed but immediately felt the fatigue wash over her as she tried to stand

"because you were exhausted last night and to be frank you look like death warmed up this morning"

"gee thanks" she half laughed

He wasn't half wrong. She had dark circles under her eyes and her eyes had also lost their spark they normally had.

"although it is how I feel right now" she said

"well I brought this up" he said holding out the thermometer he placed it in her ear and waited till the beep. "38.5" he said muttering "it's a little high" he said looking at her

"A little high, I am in thick PJs, have been under the covers and I have just been drinking hot tea" she sighed looking at him seeing where his mind was going.

"still I think its best you stay here; I'll get on to fleet command and get a test sent out"

"but..." she protested

"no but Kate. You are displaying symptoms"

"Mike. I don't have the virus" she protested

"it's best to be safe rather than sorry"

"Fine" she sighed in frustration. She knew he was right; a high temperature was one of the big warning lights of the virus and she would hate to pass it on and make her children ill.

"I'll come back up and check on you later" he smiled as he headed for the door blowing her a kiss.

Yawning slightly, she nodded at him. Pulling the covers up around her she dozed off falling asleep again.

Waking a few hours later she reached over pulling her phone off the side she smiled as she saw a text from Mike saying her lunch was outside. Sliding from the bed she walked over to the door pulling it open she saw a lunch box on the carpet outside. Inside was a cheese and ham sandwich cut in to a heart, an orange, a packet of shapes and a Fredo frog. There also a travel flask of tea, with a note saying he was looking for the spare kettle so she could make a brew whenever she liked but this would have to do for now

She hadn't eaten since the previous evening so she felt quite hungry. After eating the feast, he had prepared, she pulled her laptop on to the bed. She needed something to try and keep herself awake as if she slept now then she would find it hard to sleep later on.

Loading up the laptop she scrolled through Netflix trying to find something to watch but the only thing she fancied was Lucifer and only season 4 was available. Searching on amazon prime she managed to find the first 3 seasons. Pulling her headphones over her ears she started to watch.

Before she knew it was after 7pm and Mike had messaged her again leaving dinner outside the door for her. Smiling she lifted the tray from the little table he had brought up so Midnight didn't leave her mark on anything, nobody wanted stray cat hairs in their dinner. Tonight's dinner seemed to be a take-away pizza. Chicken and pepper. Curling back up on the bed she pressed play totally engrossed in what she was watching. she got through most of the first season and was hooked. It was witty and funny and just addictive.

At around midnight her phone began to buzz with a face time call. Lifting her phone up to her she smiled accepting the call.

"hey how you feeling?" Mike asked

"a little better, still feel knackered though" she half smiled "seriously I cannot take 2 weeks of this. If it wasn't for Netflix then I would be bored out of my nut" she smiled watching as mike laughed

"hopefully it won't be for two weeks" Mike smiled

"how were the Kids? "she asked

"not bad. Grace was being a tad melodramatic, Nicole was very quiet all day and Chris seemed happy enough scrabbling around after the cat, although I did have to stop him trying to drinking from the cat's bowl.

Kate laughed it was typical of her son, he was always playing at being a kitten even more so since they adopted midnight. "but they are all right?" she asked.

"Kate they are fine. Stop worrying and just relax and get better" He smiled

"I can't not worry because they are my kids and what if I have brought this virus home and they get sick..." she said tears starting to fall

"Kate, we don't even know If it is this virus, there is no point getting worked up and anxious about it" Mike said softly. "Look it getting late and you still look shattered. Try and get some sleep" he smiled

"i love you" she whispered

"Love you more" he said back

"love you most" was her response as the chat ended.

Pulling the covers around her, Kate tried to get to get some sleep, and stop her mind going in to overdrive about ifs and buts.

The following morning was much of the same thing as the previous day. Breakfast in bed, something she wasn't complaining about. Lucifer binge on the laptop, lunch which was left over pizza today. The test kit that NAVCOM had sent also arrived. It was a simple swab test that swabbed the throat and nose. So hopefully it wouldn't be too long before she found out if she had contracted the virus or not.

At around 11 pm her Laptop began to buzz with a skype call, it interrupted an episode of Lucifer she was really enjoying but she accepted the call as she really missed him and it would be better than a phone screan.

"hey, how you feeling today?" he asked. Apart from letting her know that there were meals outside he hadn't had a proper chance to talk to her all day.

"a little better, I don't feel as tired but I still ache all over." she gave a little yawn

"that's something. Hopefully your Test comes back alright" he smiled "although this is torcher. I just want to take care of you"

"I know. I miss you" Kate sighed

"well there is always texting" he said with a glint in his eye

"seriously, Mike" she frowned looking at him over the webcam

" come on it can be like the old days on Hammersley when we had to keep everything secret" he grinned

"Mike" she moaned "on the ship yeah but not when we can be together and I could have the real thing" she sighed as her phone buzzed with a text

Sliding her phone towards her she read what he had written. Grinning coyly, she quickly sent a response and watched as he opened it. Grinning she could tell it had got to him and was having the desired effect.

"see not so bad" Mike grinned as he sent a reply

"I would still prefer to snuggle up with you" she said bluntly

"I Know but you get your test results tomorrow so hopefully you won't be stuck for long" he smiled. "it's getting late get some sleep, it's the best medicine" he said softly

"okay" she yawned slightly "love you"

"love you more" he said as he ended the call.

Lying down Kate reached over pulling his pillow towards her holding it close she closed her eyes and imagined it was him she was holding close. It was hard as she could still smell his sent on the pillow, she couldn't wait to get her test results back. She just prayed they would show up clear so she could get on and enjoy time with her children and Mike.

I should note I have no clue on what the testing system is like in Australia so can only base it on what it is like in the UK (I know we all have had different ways of testing people) please let me know what you think. and hopefully I shall update soon as I just keep getting more and more ideas pop in to my head so have a long list of planned chapters :D
