It was 3 days before Kate got her test results came back due to a backlog at the labs. Thankfully it was a negative result which meant she could leave the confines of the bedroom and actually spend time with the family once again. Also, after having the 4 days she did have to rest and recharge it meant she felt a lot better. The dark rings under her eyes had vanished and she had more colour in her cheeks.
Sitting on the sofa she curled up watching another episode of Lucifer. It was the last one available on Netflix and available for the moment. Season 5 had been delayed because of the pandemic.
"Do we have to watch this Kate?" Mike asked walking in to living room sitting down on the sofa.
"yes" she said holding the remote out of his reach "its the last one in the series and there are no more as of yet" she said "and I need to know how it ends!" she pouted looking up in to his eyes
"Fine" he sighed knowing it would be a battle he would be unlikely to win.
"thank you" she grinned pressing the start button settling down watching as the show began.
An hour later Kate sighed as the credits rolled. It had been a epic end to the series and as nobody knew when the latest season would be back on Netflix as production was shut down mid-filming.
"so can we watch something else now?" Mike asked looking over at her
"Like what?" she said as Midnight jumped up on to her lap
"we could always watch a film" he smiled
"so long as it is not a horror film" she said looking over at him
"okay then" he said taking the remote from her. "what about..." he said scrolling through the list of films "body melt?" he grinned
"that's a horror film!" she said hitting him playfully on the arm, grabbing the remote from him.
Scrolling through the list she stopped on one "what about My Girl?"
"are you going to cry again?" he grinned.
"hey. 1 I was pregnant when we last watched that film and 2, I saw you shed a tear as well." she smiled
"i didn't cry I had something in my eye" he smiled.
"whatever" she said playfully
Continuing down the list she stopped on a different film. "what about this one. Mermaids. Single Mother moves her family to little town in Massachusetts where events strengthen and at times challenge their relationships and family bonds", she read the synopsis "sounds good" she smiled looking over at him.
"yeah if you want" he smiled there wasn't anything better on and all the other films available were
Pressing play she pulled her feet right up resting her head on Mikes shoulder. Wrapping his arm around her she nestled in to him as the film began.
She awoke with a start as the credits were rolling with Cher's Shoop-shoop song playing. "how long have I been asleep?" she asked brushing the sleep from her eyes
"not long, you only missed the last 10 minutes or so" he smiled
"and you left it on" she smiled
"well I knew you would notice" he grinned as she yawned "why don't you head on up" he said softly running his hand through her hair.
"only if you join me" she grinned looking in to his eyes.
"well" he smirked pulling her close before carrying her up the stairs their mouths not parting.
The following morning, she awoke nestled in to his arms. She had missed this. She had spent almost 2 weeks on patrol and then practically as soon as she got home, she had to isolate away from him. She had missed just waking up next to him.
"Morning" he smiled down at her
Stretching out she smiled back looking up at him. "morning" she said softly teasing him in to a kiss.
"so what are we going to do today" he asked running his fingers through her hair.
"well we could just stay here all day" she smiled wrapping her arms around his neck pulling her close.
"that does sound amazing but what about the kids?" Mike grinned "if we are here all day then it will be pandemonium downstairs" he said pulling away slightly
"spoil sport" she said folding her arms.
"anyway, I thought you would be sick of being in bed" he grinned as he slid from the sheets.
Sighing she wished he didn't have to move right at that moment.
Grabbing her robe, she headed downstairs for a coffee and to get the kids breakfast things sorted. Placing the boxes of cereal, they on the counter as they all couldn't just have the same each wanted their own different cereal. Taking the milk from the fridge she placed it on the side and waited for the inevitable stampede that would be the children to come down the stairs. She had missed the drama and the fun that came with mornings. She just hoped that convincing them to actually do some of their school work was going to be easy. Although she did doubt that highly it was always a battle as they all saw the work their younger sibling was doing and that sounded much better, especially Grace when it came to Chris as he just got to do sensory play or make mud pies which was much more fun than maths. she couldn't wait for the schools to reopen so she didn't have to perform a juggling act whilst on a unicycle on a tight rope over the shark tank at sea world. Having to deal with primary and secondary education whilst making sure Chris wasn't tormenting the cat amongst other things was tricky. She knew compared to others she was lucky she could be at home most of the time and Mike was also working from home. She hoped to barging with if they do a decent amount of work in the morning then the afternoon would be reserved for something fun.
