Its been a while hasnt it. I know i said this story was on Haiatus, but something came up, so i decided to finish volume 1. there is no gaurentee however that chapters will be released soon. I hope you enjoy this chapter
Later that day Skylar and Blake found themselves on the roof of a small eatery in Vale drinking tea in silence. After the whole ordeal with the rest of her team, Blake opted to spend the night with Skylar at a hotel rather than face her disgruntled teammates and confront the secret that she kept from them. She knew she was being a coward but she didnt know what else to do. She had been running from her problems all her life. What could she do that was any different now?
She wasn't like Skylar who was pretty much the only person she could trust in a world where she was trying to hide who she was. Hiding in plain sight a Faunus girl trying to atone for the sins of her past and make a better world for herself and by extension for others. After she left the white fang during a train robbery with her then partner Adam, she wanted to find a way to use her skills for the better and that's what led her to Beacon in the first place. Yet, she felt she could never escape her demons; they were haunting her in her sleep, even finding solace in the books she so enjoyed seldom helped her escape her plight. Skylar was the tougher of the two in every way, both physically and mentally.
The two had met many months ago. Blake had wandered to Vale to find refuge and meet with Ozpin, the head of Beacon when she met Skylar who was in Vale for the exact same reason. That meeting had not gone well at least, for it wasn't the first meeting that they ever had in each others lives. The first time was several years ago during their early teen years; a time that was very emotional for Skylar. Sadly Blake took advantage of Skylar's weakness and it resulted in a heavy loss to the young man. Needless to say he didn't like Blake after that.
Unfortunately when they met again, Skylar had no choice but to trust Blake; she was the only link to find what it was that he had lost; or rather who it was that he had lost, which was Skylar's main drive for becoming a Huntsman in the first place. In short, the enemy of my enemy is my friend was the best way to sum up Skylar and Blakes relationship, but in order to avoid any sort of suspicion, the two decided to act as though they had never met before Beacon and consequently avoided each other most of the time. If only Skylar had as much luck when it came to avoiding the blonde bombshell that was Blakes partner Yang Xiao Long, who practically lusted after SPHR's calm and collected leader. It was almost amusing, but Skylar didn't have the heart to shoot Yang down, even though he had far more important things on his mind then getting raped by Yang because she found him endearing for reasons that escaped him.
Skylar subtly sipped his tea, his multicolored eyes never leaving Blakes amber hued orbs, the two just staring at each other, as if any words spoken would interrupt the peace established between them. But either way the two knew that they would have to speak in order to resolve the issues between them as well as the issue between Blake and RWY. Blakes secret as a faunus was out at least between her and Skylar's team. Ozpin already knew but he didn't want to think about the idea getting out to the rest of Beacon especially the likes of Team CRDL, even though they hadn't been a problem since Skylar put their leader in the hospital wing.
Heaving a sigh, Skylar put down his cup and leaned forward in his chair, clasping his hands together. "So are we going to sit her in silence like jilted lovers or are we actually going to discuss what we need to discuss kitten?" he teased, causing Blake to give him a cat like glare. Skylar simply chuckled in response, as if that had no affect on him, but he then proceeded to get quite serious after that. "Blake I know you and i have the same goal. We are both looking into the White Fang. you know my reasons. Help me understand yours. Blake was silent for a few moments knowing that what she said would open old wounds for Skylar, because she was the one that caused them in the first place
"I was once a member of the White Fang. I was a member for most of my life, actually. You could almost say I was born into it..."
Skylar scowled at her, trying not to bark the words that were desperately wanting to escape the tip of his tongue. This was about Blake not him.
"Back then, things were different. In the ashes of war, the White Fang was meant to be a symbol of peace and unity between Humans and the Faunus. Of course, despite being promised equality, the Faunus were subjected to discrimination and hate. Humanity still thought of us as lesser beings. And so, the White Fang rose up as a voice of our people. And I was there."
"I was at the front of every rally. I took part in every boycott. I actually thought we were making a difference. But I was just a youthful optimist." she said with a heavy sigh
Then, five years ago, our leader stepped down, and a new one took his place. A new leader, with a new way of thinking. Suddenly, our peaceful protests were being replaced with organized attacks. We were setting fire to shops that refused to serve us, hijacking cargo from companies that used Faunus labor. And the worst part was, it was working. We were being treated like equals. But not out of respect... out of fear." "So, I left. I decided I no longer wanted to use my skills to aid in their violence, and instead, I would dedicate my life to becoming a Huntress. So here I am: a criminal hiding in plain view, all with the help of a little black bow." she wiggled her cat ears beneath the fashionable disguise to demonstrate. She then looked at Skylar giving him a remorseful look. "I'm sorry that i couldn't help…. I mean that i left them behind….." she told him her voice barely above a whisper.
Skylar just continued to scowl at Blake. "I can't forgive you for what you did to me Blake…. But you are my only hope to find…." he trailed off trying to hold back tears. He didn't understand what happened that day. E understood the reasoning of course, but to be left behind like nothing else mattered. That was what hurt the most. And Blake was the one responsible, yet here they were, trying to combat a common enemy. "I'm surprised you didn't tell your friends about this, considering they're your teammates and all."
Blake just smirked in response. "Have you told your friends the truth?" she asked. Skylar didn't respond.
Meanwhile, in a different part of town. RWY were shouting for their missing teammate, desperately hoping to find her. Or rather Ruby and Yang were as Weiss was begrudgingly walking along not really doing a thing to help otherwise. "Blaaaake!" Ruby called with no success
Yang was right beside her sister "Blaaaake!" "Blaaaaaaaake! Where aaaare yoooouuuu!?"
Yang cried out as well "Blake!"
Ruby turned on Weiss, who continued to be silent "Weiiiiss, you're not helping!"
Weiss just looked at Ruby an annoyed look on her face "Oh! You know what might be able to help? The police!"
Ruby crossed her arms in exasperation "Ugh, Weiss..." Calling the police on a Faunus was the worst possible idea that they could come up with especially if they were forced to reveal that Blake was part of the white fang.
Weiss just shrugged "It was just an idea!"
Ruby ignored her teammate "Yeah, a bad one."
Yang, being the oldest, tried to intervene on Blakes behalf "Weiss, I think we should hear her side of the story before we jump to any conclusions."
Weiss looked at Yang "I think that when we hear it, you'll all realize I was right!" she said arrogantly, as if trying to cling to her stubborn views about what happened earlier.
Before anyone could respond to that however (mostly to snap at Weiss for her behavior) a new voice suddenly chimed in startling the group
RWY turned around in shock only to find the mysterious redhead had sneaked up behind them without them noticing "Aaaah! Penny! Where did you come from!?" Ruby shouted in surprise
Penny just smiled, cheerfully ignoring the question "Hey guys! What are you up to?"
Ruby could not find a way to respond still in shock "Uhh..." she said thoughtlessly. Luckily, Yang was quicker on the draw
"We're looking for our friend Blake." she told Penny "actually. SPHR said that Skylar was missing too, so I guess were looking for the both of them. Unconsciously she felt jealous, hoping that Blake didn't have her hands all over the man of her dreams.
Penny blinked before realizing what they were talking about. "Ooooh, you mean the Faunus girl!"
Ruby, Weiss, and Yang stare at Penny. How was Penny able to come to that conclusion? She was barely around Blake. Heck, the 3 of them had been around Blake for months and they never knew that!"
Ruby raised an eyebrow "Wait, how did you know that?"
Penny: "Uhh, the cat ears?" she said pointing to her head as if it was obvious.
Yang couldn't help but start laughing a little "What cat ears? She wears a... boooohhh..." she trailed off, realizing that the strange redhead might have a point as all the things Blake did in the past suddenly came to mind
The realization leaves them in silence as a tumbleweed blows through in the wind.
Ruby was wide eyed and she let out a little whisper "She does like tuna a lot..."
Penn didn't seem to be phased by the fact that she just stunned the 3 girls into silence whatsoever as she continued with her inquiry "So, where is she?"
Ruby just shrugged there was no point in hiding the truth from Penny "We don't know. She's been missing since Friday."
Penny: let out a gasp "That's terrible!" she said before walking up to Ruby, almost uncomfortably so "Well, don't you worry Ruby, my friend! I won't rest until we find your teammate!" she said gripping Ruby's arms tightly
Ruby just smiled trying to hide her lack of comfort "Uh, that's really nice of you, Penny, but we're okay! Really! Right, guys?"
She looks over Penny to direct her question at Yang and Weiss, who's blinking outlines are all that's left of their sudden departure from the company of the strange girl. A tumbleweed blows past them again in the quiet.
Penny didn't seem to be offended at all. "It sure is windy today!" she said rather cheerfully as per usual.
Back with Blake and Skylar the two left the shop, trying to think about the activities that the white Fang could be up too. Sadly, neither one of them could come up with a response
"So, what's the plan now?" Skylar asked. Since Blake had been in the white fang, there was a better chance for her to have an idea than he did
Blake rubbed her chin, trying to think but sadly nothing was coming to mind "I still don't believe the White Fang is behind these robberies. They've never needed that much Dust before."
"What if they did?" Skylar responded "I mean... the only way to prove that they didn't do it, is to go to the place where they would most likely go to if they were to do it, and not find them there! Right?" he knew he was rambling but it wasnt like he had a better idea
Blake shook her head, liking Skylars idea but it was baseless at the moment "The only thing is, I've no idea where that would be." before Skylar could respond a new voice joined in the conversation. "I think I can help with that!".
The Two Huntsman in training whirled around to see a monkey faunus. One that Blake was quite familiar with, having seen him escape from a boat while out with her team the other day "You!" she growled in surprise. "Were you following us!" she accused him. As much as she found him cute she couldnt help but be annoyed with with sudden arrival
The Monkey Faunus gave Blake a cocky grin ignoring the other male completely "what if i was?" he said cheekily "Besides i have an idea, which is more that what i can say for the two of you."
"Spill it Banana breath!" Skylar spat, in no mood to play games.
The Monkey held his ground, not intimidated at all "Well, while I was on the ship, I heard some guys talking about offloading a huge shipment of Dust coming in from Atlas." he said
Blake stepped closer to the Monkey Faunus, glaring at him to show she meant business "How huge?" she asked him
The Money just smiled "Huge. Big Schnee Company freighter."
Blake just frowned. She wasnt sure she could trust this guy. For all they knew he was a soy for the white fang, but sadly it was there only lead so they didnt have much of a choice
True to his word, the Monkey, appropriately named Sun, led the two partners to the docks where sure enough there were huge crates of Schnee Dust company shipments. Amidst the chirping of crickets and darkness of night, Blake lay flat on her stomach on the rooftop overlooking the shipment of Schnee Dust containers. Skylar was beside her, sitting on one knew ready to fight if needed. Sun had sneaked off somewhere but neither paid too much mind to that since they had found what they were looking for thanks to him
"Did I miss anything?" Sun asked as he came back, a couple of Apples in his hands
Blake looked up from her position as Sun dropped next to her right "Skylar was on her left) "Not really. They've offloaded the crates from the boat. Now they're just sitting there." she growled in annoyance
Sun smiled "Cool." (holds out one of the green apples in his arms) "I stole you some food!"
Blake couldn't help but give Sun a questioning look. In the short time she had known him it seemed all he did was portray himself as a thief "Do you always break the law without giving a second thought?" she asked him
Sun seemed offended by that "Hey, weren't you in a cult or something?" definitely the wrong thing to say as (Blake delivered an angry glare at him "Okay, too soon!" at least he was smart enough to realize when he shouldn't pick a fight
Just as he says this, the winds blows all around them, and they look up to see a Bullhead's searchlights flashing around for a landing spot, descending in the middle of the cargo containers and extending a ramp for a black hooded individual with a metallic fanged mask to come out of.
Blakes eyes widened in shock. She knew this was coming but she still felt unprepared for what she saw "Oh no..."
Sun: "Is that them?"
Blake just stared at the uniforms of the men in front of her but before she could respond, Skylar beat her to it "Yes... It's them."
Sun couldnt help but notice the dejected look on Blakes face "You really didn't think they were behind it, did you?"
Blake was silent for a moment before answering "No. I think deep down I knew. I just didn't want to be right." she said as she closed her eyes in despair
"Hey! What's the holdup! We're not exactly the most inconspicuous bunch of thieves at the moment, so why don't you animals try to pick up the pace?" said the notorious thief Roman Torchwick as he came down the ramp of the same bullhead that the white fang members had
Blake was in shock. In all her time as a member of the white fang, they would never work with a human "This isn't right. The White Fang would never work with a Human. Especially not one like that." she stood up and unsheathes the katana of Gambol Shroud before walking off the edge of the roof
Sun: was alarmed by Blakes sudden action "Hey, what are you doing?!" he said standing up, but he wasnt fast enough
Blake jumped off the roof and fell to the ground in a crouch, before on to hide behind one of the containers, peeking around the corner to see Roman berate a White Fang member holding a coil of rope.
Sun, surprised by her action, attempted to follow, but before he could Skylar blocked his path. "Wait!" he cant risk losing the element of surprise. When she needs help, we'll step in." he told Sun quietly.
Roman: "No, you idiot! This isn't a leash!" he was telling off the white fang member, neither of them noticing the Cat faunus until she got behind Torchwick, holding her Katana at his throat "What the- Oh, for f-" he cut himself off, but was taking having a weapon at his throat rather well
Blake: "Nobody move!"
The White Fang soldiers readied their guns and equipped their swords in response to the sudden arrival of a Huntsman. Whether or not they realized Blake was one of them was a mystery however.
Roman just continued to stand there, trying not to freak out as far as Blake knew : "Whoa! Take it easy there, little lady." he said with a slight laugh in his voice
As the White Fang closed in on her, Blake used her free hand to go for her bow and remove it, causing the ribbon to fall away as her Faunus ears are shown to the world. She knew some of these men so she had nothing to lose
"Brothers of the White Fang! Why are you aiding this scum?" she called out to them. Frankly however there was little hope that they would start monologuing their plan to her though
The White Fang members lowered their weapons a little at this development, unsure of what to do, when Roman much to Blakes surprise suddenly laughed . "Oh, kid, didn't you get the memo?" he quipped laughing
Blake just adjusted her weapon, digging it further into Romans neck "What are you talking about?" she asked threateningly
"The White Fang and I are going in on a joint business venture together!" Roman responded jovially, ignoring Blakes threat
Blake just growled in response trying to resist decapitating Roman right then and there "Tell me what it is or I'll put an end to your little operation."
Suddenly, the air is filled with more turbines blowing the wind wildly around the holdup.
Roman just looked up at the source of the Wind. yet another bullhead "I wouldn't exactly call it a little operation..."
Scratch that, make that two more Bullheads hovering above the heist, and as Blake watched in horror, she failed to notice Torchwicks counter. Roman smiled and fired his cane at Blake's feet, resulting in a large explosion that knocked Blake, causing her to fly several feet back and land on the docks hard.
Blake was dazed , but mostly unhurt, thanks to her aura. She managed to get onto her feet, but before she could move any further than that, Roman shot at her again. She turned only to see a bullet come screaming towards her . before she could react however, Skylar appeared in front of her, slicing the bullet in half with his sword, protecting her from getting hurt any further "Mind if I cut in?" he quipped , though he kept his eyes trained on the thief in front of him.
"Oh this is too amusing!" Roman said. Two huntsmen in one night?" must be my lucky day. He said, before firing a series of shots at the duo,
Blake stood up and together she and Skylar dodged the volley of shots that came their way, before the two took refuge behind crates.
Roman just slowly walked forward, intending to attack the two students "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty..." he said, however his taunt is interrupted when a banana peel lands on his head, causing him to toss it aside then look up and growl at the assailant eyes widening as he saw Sun dropping in from above
"Woohoo!" Sun shouted with glee as he landed on the criminal's face feet-first, before jumping off of him, rolling up and readying himself to fight.
"Leave them alone!" he told Roman, hoping Blake and Skylar were able to recuperate
The Bullheads above opened to let more White Fang members descend on the scene, standing by Roman as he gets up and surrounded Sun.
"You are not the brightest banana in the bunch, are you, kid?" Roman said clearly annoyed by the arrival of a third huntsman
With that said, the White Fang charge at the monkey Faunus, but he managed to dodge slashes and get some of the soldiers with his fists and kicks until he rolls out of the way of one's sword. Sadly for the grunts, this was not his only way to attack
Pulling out a collapsible red staff, sun quickly uses this to beat down on each opponent that nears him, felling each one in a single flaming blow when he twirls it around, even creating a scorching shockwave to beat the last of them.
Meanwhile Blake and Skylar peer around the corner of the container to watch Sun jump around and beat another White Fang soldier, landing on his back and causing him to fly over toward Roman's head. The crime boss ducks then growled in annoyance and aims his cane at Sun, firing a shot that he defends himself from just when Blake leaps into the action Skylar right beside her.
Blake narrowed her eyes at the thief "He's mine!"
Blake went in close and became a blur of afterimages as she slashed both blades at Roman, who backed away and deflected each would-be blow with his cane at unbelievable speeds. Blake continued to dash, hop over, and slide around Roman to try and find a weak spot to no avail, until she Finally landed a blow after using her Semblance but her opponent quickly recovered, deflecting several more attacks before attempting to punch her in the face. Only to hit a clone as she flipped away. The two clash weapons again, then Torchwick managed to jab her in the side.
Roman: "Hahaha!" he cried in triumph. He landed a few more hits on Blake until one final beating to the head with his cane causes her to go down
Just as Roman deals with one opponent, Sun appears right behind her. Vaulting over Blake he kicks Roman in the chest and disconnects his staff into two spinning circles of flame-firing shotgun nunchucks that only slow down once to show the audience what they are before becoming twin arcs of offense again. Sun swings each gun at Roman while firing everything he as at him, but even with the rapid series of shots and flying bullets, Roman manages to defend himself against every bullet and hit until a millisecond-long pause allows Skylar to get a slash in and knock him back.
On his back, Roman notices a container hanging by a crane right above the two warriors, and gets up to fire his cane at its supports. Blake and Skylar leapt behind it, but Sun was not so lucky barely missing when he jumped forward, ending up right below the nozzle of Roman's cane. Just as he was about to fire, his and Sun's attention are drawn to a familiar voice.
"Hey!"
To the groups surprise, Ruby appeared on the rooftop overlooking them, Crescent Rose extended and ready for action.
Roman quickly grinned, turning his attention to the forth huntress to appear tonight "Well, hello, Red! Isn't it past your bedtime?"
Ruby ignored him, but her attention was quickly divided by Penny, who had followed her to the battlefield "Ruby, are these people your friends?" she asked naively
Ruby looked behind her "Penny, get back!" she said. Sadly while her attention was diverted, Roman fired his cane at her, launching the young Huntress-in-training back from the explosion's force and sending her scythe flying away "AAAAAH!" she screamed in pain
Roman let out a professional-level evil laugh at his attack on the young girl. Penny turned her head toward the criminal and gives her first glare realizing what happened was her fault, walking forward while Ruby tries to get back up.
Ruby: "Penny, wait! Stop!" she raised her hand in a futile attempt to stop her, but she was still dazed from the attack
Penny just looked at her friend with a confident smile "Don't worry, Ruby. I'm combat ready!" she said before preparing her attack
Her backpack mechanically opened up, and from its dark depths comes a single sword that extended and multiplied into several blades hovering over Penny's back. Leaping from the rooftop with the weapons acting as wings, she sent three of her swords to knock two White Fang soldiers down before even landing on the ground, where she proceeded to fling the swords at one enemy, impale another to a wall, create a barrier of spinning steel against a running attack, leaping over a goon with her swords in tow, and finally making a wheel that she threw knocking multiple Faunus off their feet.
Three Bullheads proceeded to come from the skies and open fire on the battle, but Penny merely formed a shield and launches two of her swords into the wall behind her, which in turn pulled their wielder back with their strings. When her swords swirl around her again, she commands them to open their points and build up a large glowing ball of green light. With a punching action, several bright lasers crack the pavement when they fire at the transports and slice each one in half, causing several of the White Fang members inside to fall and letting Ruby watch as Bullheads fall in pieces behind her.
Stunned, she turned back to Penny as she aims her swords at the remaining Bullheads holding the crate of Dust and pulls back on their wires, tugging the aircraft with them.
Ruby was in awe at what she was seeing "Whoa... How is she doing that?"
Seeing the Bullhead's flight fall under Penny's control, Roman grimaced and ran towards the last transport.
Penny, after her large green pupils dilate for a second, pulled with all her might on the strings, and the aircraft crashes into a stack of crates, causing an explosion as a result.
Roman now watching from the safety of his escape just held his head in his hands "These kids just keep getting weirder..." he muttered with his observation made, he used his cane to close the doors, and the jet lifts off, flying away from the lost battle
Later, a handful of police cars arrived at the docks, where Ruby, Skylar Blake, Sun, and Penny were sitting on boxes in silence. That is, until Weiss and Yang appeared on the scene. They had been too far to arrive at the short battle in time but they were relieved everyone was ok.
Ruby, surprised by Weiss's appearance, and worried she would still be upset, quickly moved to appease her "Look Weiss, it's not what you think, she explained the whole thing. See, she doesn't actually have a bow, she has kitty ears and they're actually kind of cute..." Weiss ignores her and squared off with Blake, moving passed her leader
Blake just calmly looked her down) "Weiss, I want you to know that I'm no longer associated with the White Fang. Back when I was with the-"
Weiss interrupted her partner "Stop! Do you have any idea of how long we've been searching for you?" she paused "Twelve hours. That means I've had twelve hours to think about this. And in that twelve hours, I've decided..."
Yang Skylar, Sun, and Ruby look on, worried at what Weiss's response would be, but to their surprise, she said something that shocked them all "I don't care."
Blake blinked (surprised) "You don't care?". She was half expecting her to start screaming at her . Weiss just smiled at the amber eyed girl "You said you're not one of them anymore, right?"
Blake nodded vigorously "No, I-I haven't been since I was younger-"
Weiss raised her hand silencing Blake "Ah-bah-bah-bah-bah! I don't want to hear it. All I want to know is that the next time something this big comes up... you'll come to your teammates. And not some...``she peered behind Blake spotting Sun and Skylar, with a slight blush on her face "Someone else."
Blake took a moment to look at Ruby and Yang grinning at her, and she wiped a tear from her eye, nodding "Of course."
Weiss smiled and nodded in response. The moment is serious for a second more until Ruby screamed "Yeah! Team RWBY is back together!"
Skylar couldn't help but smile at RWBY, hoping that his team would be just as understanding about his disappearance as Blakes team was about her
Meanwhile on a rooftop a short distance away, a young woman with starlight colored hair in a white fang mask looked at Skylar. She took off her mask, revealing her eyes, one blue and the other amber, her beautiful features marred by a frown.
"The time has come" she said to herself
