Flopping down on the sofa Kate reached over for her coffee. After the morning she had has she needed a vat. She had given up on the home schooling for the day as like the rest of the week it had been a uphill battle to try and get Grace to actually sit down and do something. She was over excited and extremely clingy towards Kate on account that Kate was back earlier than expected although as soon as Kate had said that lessons were over for the day Grace seemed more interested in playing with her toys,
Kate sighed as her phone buzzed from the table, she just hoped it wouldn't be a notice for sea. Pulling it towards her she smiled as she saw it was a facetime from Nav. Looking over her shoulder she could see grace was happy and content playing with her horses and barbie dolls in the hall.
"Hey" Kate smiled looking at the camera
"my mum is officially driving me around the twist" Nav sighed
"why" Kate grinned "what's she done now" she asked knowing that when It came to her mum nav did sometimes over exaggerate when it came to her mother.
"She has rearraigned my entire wardrobe and chucked out all my comfy daks"
"oh Nik" Kate sniggered
"its not funny Kate. I literally have nothing to wear apart from my uniform. She wants to take me shopping to get all these posh dresses saying I will never attract a decent guy if I am constantly in sweat pants or my uniform"
"clearly she hasn't seen some of the things you go out in when we are on leave" Kate grinned
"funny. This is serious when the hell would I wear a $600 dress"...
Grace looked up from where she was playing. She had grown board of the game she was playing. Jumping up she plodded down the corridor towards the office
"Yes sir. I sent those reports over on Monday..." Mike said talking in to his computer
"DADDYYYYY" Grace called in a sing-song voice pushing the door open. "who's that daddy" she asked walking right up to him
"its daddy and mummy's boss." Mike said trying to hide what was going on to the admiral who he was on a zoom meeting with. "daddy needs to talk to him now" he said quietly trying to shepherd Grace out of the room.
Dodging round her father she jumped in to his chair "what's his name daddy?" she asked "Hallo Mr boss man. Daddy did a really stinky poop in the bathroom. Do you want to hear my song?" she asked taking a deep breath. As Mike watched on in horror
Kate walked in just as Grace launched in to the second verse of her song, this verse was on pee and poop. Cringing as she had no idea where her daughter had picked up her tastes in singing about bodily fluids. Grabbing Grace, she carried her out of the room despite the protests
"i was in the middle of my song mummy!" Grace said crossly
"yes I heard" Kate frowned "and daddy was in the middle of a very important meeting. You know you're not allowed in to the office"
"but mummy"
"but nothing you can go and sit in your room and just hope daddy doesn't get in to trouble"
Sitting back on the sofa she sighed. As an email pinged through on her phone. It was from the school saying that they would be pleased to welcome back Grace and Nicole and Chris was welcome in Kindergarten. It was welcome news she was struggling with home-schooling, trying to get Grace and Nicole to focus on their work and then trying to Keep Chris occupied with something fun and stimulating and keep all three out of Mikes way when he was in meetings. She needed to respond by the end of the week so the school knew how many pupils to expect
She was still reading the email when Mike walked in.
"hey Everything alright" he smiled seeing her face
"yeah. What did the admiral say?" she asked
"he actually found the funny side. He has a granddaughter the same age as Gracie. Although he didn't want to see a repeat of today" he said sitting down next to her "what's up?" he asked sensing something was wrong
"nothing we got an email off the school" she forced a smile "they say the kids can go back from Wednesday"
"that's great isn't it?" Mike smiled
"yeah" she said "its just..."
"Kate they need to be in school they have missed 3 months already"
"i know but what if they get sick or something... and grace won't be able to stay away from her friends and what if they think they have done something wrong..."
Wrapping his arm around her he pulled her towards him. "Kate they will be fine.
"Really" Kate looked up
"yes." he said kissing the top of her head "They need to get back to some normality and to be frank so do we all. That was what the meeting was about. The idea we can go back in to NAVCOM so long as we are all socially distanced"
" but..."
"Kate stop worrying and from the sounds of it they will only be in a few days a week for a while so we will still have havoc around the house" Mike smiled. "now how about I order some take-away and we watch a movie" he smiled
"perfect" Kate smiled
so I think i may pause this fic for a bit. i feel like i have included all i can for now with out repeating myself. so i hope you like this. i am not saying its over as i may add some more later and i am still going to write The story of a heart.
