Serena looked up from the stack papers she was correcting, ready to give whoever it was a warm greeting. But instead her smile just suddenly faded.
"Oh please." Seiya stepped forward with both hands up. "Don't look so excited to see me. Please hold back the excitement." He added with sarcasm
Serena smirked. "Honestly, after what you pulled, excitement is not the word I would use. More like hatred, anger, you know great annoyance."
"Ouch Serena, that really hurt." He put his hand over his heart and made a grimacing face.
Serena just rolled her eyes. "What do you want Mr. Ku?"
Serena calling him by his proper name took him by surprise, cause him to take a step back. "Wow... we are suddenly so formal." He shook his head. "I thought we had deeper relationship than that."
"We don't have any relationship, other than a professional one, and honestly I would barely call it that. You burned our friendship, or whatever we had, when you tried to use getting me this job as leverage." Serena clarified.
Seiya went to open his mouth to contest but was interrupted.
"And honestly Mr. Ku I don't want to get into it with you. It is not worth it. I have plans tonight, so I really need to get this grading stuff done. Sow how can I help you?"
Her tone was harsh and not as warm as he once remembered. She really had no more feeling towards him, not even friendship. Her limited eye contact was cold and he could no longer see the sparkles in her eyes that he had always loved.
"Well, I guess if we are going to be formal... or business professional. Ms-"
"Actually, it is Misses now." Serena interrupted. "Mrs. Shields to be exact." She made sure her hand was on the desk.
She saw as his eye widened, as he noticed the diamond ring on her finger. Then looked away.
"And before you even think about saying anything negative, or asking me any questions, remember it is not your place and he is now my husband and your future king. So I would advise you don't." She folded her hands on her desk. "So again, how can I help you?"
He was still taken back by what he just found out. He was almost at loss for words.
"Mr. Ku how can I help you?" Serena's voice sounded nothing but annoyed. All she was missing was a gigantic sigh at the end.
He looked at his feet as he kicked the air. He never thought the day would come when he could not figure out how to speak to the one person he loved more than anyone.
"Mr. Ku, really if you have nothing to say please leave. Your kicking is distracting me from my grading."
He gulped. "I was just wondering..."He started to whisper as his voice and confidence dropped even lower.
"You need to speak up Mr. Ku, I really can't hear you." She pointed at her ears.
"I was wondering if you can cover me the last Friday of this month?" He shrugged. "I have some things I need to take care of and..." His voice sounded almost desperate, hoping that she would pry and see what is going on.
"Let me check the calendar." She opened her desk and pulled out her phone.
He observed as she scrolled and swiped. Her ring catching the light with every swipe and just glistening. She tilted her head as if she had a schedule conflict, then she swiped again, and then nodded.
"Looks like I am free that day. You still have free period at 6th hour?"
He just nodded. "Thank you." Was all that he could blurt out
"It is no big deal. I will be here anyways. I will just add that to my calendar, do you need anything else?" Serena asked.
"No, I am good." He took a step back.
"Well then have a good night. I have papers to grade." She put her phone away and went back to her papers. She could still feel Seiya staring at her. She thought about looking up but decided not too, at risk that he would try to spark another conversation.
After what felt like forever, Seiya finally accepted defeat, and knew she was not going to make any attempt to know why he needed the day off. So with his head hung down, he turned around to walk out the door. Serena could hear his light steps as the exited the classroom, and finally she was able to release the breath she was holding, and went back to grading in peace until she was finally done.
About two and a half hours later she was finally walking through the door of her home. She vowed to never let her work stack up like that again. She kicked off her heals and undid her low bun. She ran her fingers through her hair and massaged her scalp with huge sigh of relief.
"Well hello Mrs. Shields."
A smile grew across her face as she looked up to her husband.
"I love the way that sound...don't you, Mrs. Shields?"
"How many times did you say that name today?" She took a step towards Darien and placed her hands up to caress his chest. She tilted her head up to meet his kiss half way.
"Ehh, not enough." He shrugged kissing her again. "Did your coworkers die from shock? Did they have a lot to say about the ring?"
"Yeah... some more than others?" She walked past Darien, grabbing his hand leading him towards the kitchen.
Darien rolled his eyes. "Let me guess."
Serena released his hand and walked to the cabinet that held the glasses. "He handled it better than I thought." She pulled a glass out before closing the cabinet shut. She ran her finger across the rim of the glass. "I think he was actually hurt by the announcement. He didn't say anything negative and he didn't yell." She made a questionable look. "But I really didn't give him a chance to talk either. What's done is done and he can't change it."
"Hmmm," Darien grabbed the water jug out of the fridge and handed it to her.
"Thank you. He just looked so... I don't know how to explain it. It was almost sad now that I think about it." She looked up to Darien and saw that his facial expression became straight.
"You aren't second guessing...?"
Serena smiled. "Second guessing what? You or Seiya?" Serena giggled. "You're joking right?"
Darien crossed his arms.
"Darien...I have wanted to marry you since I was a teen."
"Yeah, but doesn't mean you do not second guess that decision."
"Darien, if I didn't want to marry you I wouldn't have." Serena said brushing her hand against his cheek. "I love you and I always will. Even when we were not together, and how much I said I hated you. I still loved you."
He sighed.
"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you and our children." Now her face sank.
Darien grabbed both her hands in his. "We will have our son soon. I know it."
"We haven't heard anything yet."
"Wonderful wife of mine, it has been two days since I filed the paperwork. Give them some time." He kissed her little hands as she rolled her eyes. "And I know this is off subject, but I did a really good job picking out that ring." He smirked.
Serena pulled her hands back and lighting slapped his shoulder. "I still cannot believe you were able to get this without me knowing." She scoffed and went back to fridge. "What are we eating for dinner?"
"I wanted it to be surprise?" He walked over to the pantry to see if they had anything he can make. He threw his hands down in defeat. "We can order take out."
"Honey we have had take out for the last two night..." Serena whined.
"Yes, because we have been very busy. You know getting married...and celebrating our marriage." He turned to catch Serena's side eye.
"But I am so tired of take out." She shut the fridge door.
"Then what do you want to eat? What do we have to cook." Darien just turned to face her.
"I can't decide. Can't you just decide? I am so brain dead and hungry." She groaned.
"Look if you don't decide I am going to just do what I did last time and order everything and cook everything, so unless you want us wasting a bunch of food and money..."
"Ugh you make things so hard!"
"Sere, just pick anything you want, or pick two things and we will get it both."
She sighed. "Fine, let's see what is out there for delivery and what veggies we have at home to make."
