Mei didn't know if she should do this, she really didn't. But she was going to do it anyway. Holding her wrapped box that contained easy-to-chew sweets, she made her way to where a short man with his long hair tied in a ponytail, occasionally biting her lip to stop her from grinning whenever she peeked at the card.
-Teacher-san, she called to Yao. I brought you a present.
-You brought a present to me, aru? Of course, it's Teacher's Day, aru. It was why you called me to your island today, aru.
-Yes, it is. And I want you to read the card before opening the present, but not read the card before the drums are just about to start.
-I'll do that, aru.
True to his word, Yao waited until fifteen seconds before 6am, when the drums would start. Then, and only then, did he read the card:
Dear Yao
Thank you for all the support you've given me in confusing times.
Sincerely,
Mei
PS: I'm sorry this packet was delayed as much as it was; I'd intended it to be given to you on August 8th.
The sound of the drums masked the outraged sounds and sputtering coming from Yao after he'd read the card and seen what was in the box.
Author's notes:
The date mentioned in the card is the Taiwanese Father's Day, and that and the easy-to-chew sweets are a reference to the advanced age of Yao.
I don't own Hetalia
