Prompt: Hi! I am absolutely obsessed with your work and if you're still taking promps I have a imagine in my head that won't leave me alone, the scene in the movie when they see Johanna, Annie and Peeta in 13 after the rescue but Effie gets out with them and Katniss witnesses Hayffie for the first time and Finnick explains to her but also mocks her for only realising then.

The Truest Thing Johanna Mason Ever Said

The only thing Katniss was really aware of what the tight grip of Finnick's hand as the three of them rushed to Thirteen's hospital. Haymitch's breathing was loud and labored because he was jogging alongside them, struggling to keep up…

The open area of the hospital was in chaos.

Johanna Mason was rolled past them, a lot of doctors moving and shouting around the gurney… Finnick froze at the sight of her and Katniss couldn't decide if it was her broken appearance or her shaved head that had shocked him most…

She turned back, ready to look everywhere for Peeta and Gale, but was brought short once again by a desperate cry coming from a nearby bed.

"Haymitch!"

She looked up in time to see a woman – that her brain took a moment to identify as Effie because she wasn't wearing any make-up or wig and her tangled hair was almost brown with the same dirt that covered the rest of her – escaping the nurses' hands to kneel on the hospital bed, almost crawling to its foot to get closer to the victor quicker…

Not that she should have worried because in the moment it had taken Katniss to recognized the bruised and battered escort, Haymitch had crossed the room and embraced her. They clung to each other hard. Haymitch drew back, cupped her cheek and the stare they shared…

Uncomfortable, Katniss looked away.

"You didn't know? What are you? Blind?" Finnick mocked, but the teasing was distracted.

"Finnick!" came a shriek and Finnick's hand was torn from Katniss' grip when a brown-haired woman, wearing the same hospital outfit Effie was, tossed herself at him.

"Annie!" he called back, a shout of relief and joy all in one.

They kissed and hugged and were so lost in their own bubble that Katniss stepped aside, feeling like an intruder. She glanced back at Haymitch but he was still framing Effie's face with so much tenderness she felt like a voyeur watching it.

She ventured on, searching for Peeta…

And when she found him…

She woke up in a hospital room – again – feeling exhausted for more reasons than just the fact she had just been strangled half to death.

She listened to everything everyone had to say: Plutarch and the news about Portia and Peeta's prep team, Haymitch telling her what they had done to Peeta, Prim and her comforting reassurances…

In the end, she preferred to sleep it all away.

When she woke up, Finnick was at her bedside, Annie asleep next to him.

Katniss had the feeling he would never let go of her again, not any time soon at any rate.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, her throat hoarse and raspy.

He handed her a glass of water with a straw and she sipped it gratefully.

"Haymitch didn't want you to be alone but it's curfew and your sister couldn't stay." he explained, low enough not to wake Annie. "And I'm supposed to be in the hospital anyway so…"

She frowned. "Doesn't he have clearance to go where he wants?"

It was how it had been explained to her anyway. Most people had to respect curfew and had to keep away from certain areas but Haymitch and Plutarch had some of the highest clearances in the place. Haymitch had never kept away from her hospital room at night just because it was inconvenient before…

"He's gonna come back." he whispered. "He needs to check on Effie. He was pretty shaken up when Plutarch told him about the stylist and the prep team. They think it's likely she would have been executed too if Boggs hadn't accidentally stumbled upon her."

She had forgotten all about the escort. It was a good thing they had rescued her. She didn't always like Effie but she didn't want her dead.

"I'm going to ask Coin to add her on the list…" she said.

She couldn't see how it would go well for her otherwise. Not with her past as an escort. Not even with the fact she had clearly been hurt for information.

"You should, just in case." He nodded. "But she's already on Haymitch's."

She frowned. "Haymitch has a list?"

That was the first she heard of it.

"We all went in with a list." Finnick told her. "All the victors. People we wanted safe." He glanced down at Annie. "Your family and Peeta's were on his. Hawthorne's too. And Effie. But that was before it all went to shit."

Before she had shot the arrow too soon and derailed all the rebellion's plans.

She licked her lips, feeling a little sluggish. Morphling probably. They always dosed her with morphling when she ended up in the hospital. "What's the deal with that? Effie and Haymitch?"

"If you ever get them to tell you, you're going to have to tell me." He snorted. "Nobody could ever really figure it out. It's obvious though, isn't it? They're in love."

In love?

That was ridiculous. And stupid.

"They hate each other." she countered. "They can't go ten minutes without fighting."

"Yeah, well…" Finnick smiled, resting his head on top of Annie's. "Love is weird."

That, Katniss decided, closing her eyes again, was the truest thing Johanna Mason ever said.
