It was true that ms. Baldwin was the first openly gay politician to be elected to the United States Senate, but Arthur knew that she wasn't the first gay politician to recieve that honour.

And if he were to look completely cynical and critical on the whole matter; then ms. Baldwin wasn't the first openly gay person in the Senate.

Sure, she was the first to be elected, but as he'd been explained by Alfred, Alfred was technically a member of the Senate. And he was openly gay.

Alfred hadn't been appointed membership by election, but by being the Personification of the US. (Arthur hadn't really needed that explanation; it was the same system in his fair country.)

Though that didn't diminish ms. Baldwin's efforts or her achievements.
