One of the few things Matthew had abhorred about his country and his people in modern times, 91 yrs ago, was that it took the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council of Great Britain to conclude what the Supreme Court of Canada should have come to by themselves; that the word "person" in any and all federal and legal documents includes both men and women. Thus, including them in all public offices and by far promoting gender equality.
He was proud, however, of the five women whom instead of being silent and invisible had fought their way to that result.
