When Maryanne was eight months pregnant she began having extreme difficulty walking. Richard got a wheelchair to help her get around and stay off of her feet. Marie had called her daughter to apologize and the Barones were all preparing to fly out to help Robert and Amy move into their new home. Maryanne spent her days either in bed, in her wheelchair, or on the couch with her feet up. Her legs were swollen too and the doctor was closely monitoring her in case she had to be induced.
Everyone was at Cybill's one night when an earthquake hit sometime after ten. Richard got Maryanne to the floor and shielded her in case anything fell. After, he and Robert helped Maryanne back onto the couch before helping the other men check the property. Before he walked away, Richard knelt down in front of his wife, "are you alright?"
"Yeah, but my water broke."
"Okay, let me see what it looks like outside and if we can get out of here." Cybill and Debra helped Maryanne put her feet up. When the men returned, Maryanne gasped. Richard ran over to help his wife get through the contraction. Zoey tried to call the paramedics but the phone lines were down. Richard helped his wife walk around. While walking was incredibly painful, she felt the need to walk because her back was getting sore sitting down. Every time she had a contraction, Richard held on tightly. He had her sit on the couch in the kitchen area and asked Ally to sit with her for a moment. Richard gave everyone tasks to prepare for Maryanne to give birth at the house. It was nearing two in the morning and everyone was exhausted, but Maryanne needed them. Ally was rubbing her aunt's back when Richard walked in. "Thank you, Ally."
"No problem, Uncle Richard."
Richard turned to his wife, "honey, we have a place set up in the living room for you." Richard helped his wife up and helped her walk to the living room.
"What the hell? It looks like you set up a place for a dog," Maryanne yelled in pain when another contraction hit, "on the other hand it looks quite comfortable." Richard, Robert, and Ray helped Maryanne lower to the ground. Cybill stayed in the living room while her family sat closer to the kitchen to stay out of the way, but close in case, they were needed.
"Maryanne, I have to deliver the babies. Robert and Ray are going to sit on either side of you. Cybill and Amy are going to hold your legs up."
"You're not gonna stick your arm up there like you did that cow, are you?"
Everyone looked at Richard grossed out, but he chuckled, "no I'm not. I only have to do that with large animals like horses and cows. Now, I'm gonna need you to push when the next contraction hits." Maryanne did, "good, I can see the head."
"That's it? What the hell did I push so damn hard for? Oh, man, I have to do this twice."
Maryanne pushed with all her might for forty-five minutes before a cry was heard. The baby girl was placed on Maryanne's chest for a moment. Debra took the baby to clean her off while Maryanne prepared to deliver her other daughter. After thirty minutes, another cry was heard and the baby was placed on Maryanne's chest. Debra had cleaned off the first baby with Marie's help before handing the baby to Frank. All of a sudden, Maryanne gasped in pain, "what fresh hell is this?" There was another baby to deliver. Debra took the second baby from Maryanne and with Marie began to clean her up while Maryanne prepared to have another baby. It took an hour for Maryanne to push the third baby out. The baby was a girl and she was placed on her mother's chest just as her sisters had been. Marie was holding the second baby, so Amy helped Debra clean off the third baby. When Maryanne didn't have another contraction, Richard helped her deliver the afterbirth. The power came on and Zoey called for an ambulance. "Richard, something's wrong," Maryanne said weakly.
Robert and Ray moved so that Richard to go to his wife's side, "what?"
"Something doesn't feel right," Maryanne's complexion was ghostly white.
"Richard, she's hemorrhaging," Robert said when he saw the blood.
"Maryanne, hold on. The paramedics are on their way," Richard calmly told his wife.
"Take care of the girls and Justin," Maryanne softly said.
"I can hear the ambulance. They're almost here, honey. Just hold on."
"Promise me," Maryanne whispered.
Richard was trying to hold it together, "I promise," he whispered back.
Everyone watched as the life drained out of Maryanne. Their wife, their sister, their daughter, their mother, their aunt, their friend.
