As the year went by the Potter family read every letter that Hadrian sent and responded back, though year after year, letters became unopened stacked up in the mantle of the family room, slowly did that pile grow till nothing ever came. The Potter family continued with life raising Linfred to the best of their abilities and the family room became deserted as the time went by. They grew with the years and so did Hadrian.
"...Again Harian." His instructor commanded, "Put more emotion...Again. Feel the notes…" Hadrian rolled his eyes as he switched the paper the begin yet again. "You need perfection, this is not Primary class….begin...Pay attention! Do not wander, the notes are to be controlled not let loose." A smack of the baton hit the stand, while Hadrian sent another glare to his instructor. "Music is art boy, practice this week, get out of my sight."
Hadrian picked up his bag, after stuffing his music into the bag, quickly he sped his way across campus. The sun was setting in the summer months, the townspeople all heading in for the night to be with family, even Hadrian, though he was running a bit late. He wished he wasn't grounded again, he could have teleported, in all honesty he did earn the grounding with the last prank but it was worth it.
Finally he made his way to the tallest house in the town, his home for the past nine years, it was large and aged to perfection. It stood tall and proud, the white alabaster pillars with the gold trim. A place for Kings. Which is exactly who lived there. Bustling through the open corridors he paused just a second to gather himself, before opening the grand wooden doors. "Awe there he is…" He heard his mother as he stepped in.
"Evening mum, sorry I was late Master Mauro had me working on the latest piece." Hadrian announced to the room as he gave a small kiss of affection to his all but blood mother before he took his seat next to his all but blood father, sharing a smile.
"Oh I remember him, very sturn. How is the playing going?" Lord Anaxagoras asked his son proud of all that he has accomplished.
"Very good, he has me working on the Violin now and wants me to have the piece done to perfection by the end of summer." Hadrian commented as he placed a napkin on his lap, waiting for the food to be brought out.
"Excellent, Hadrian has been trying to learn every instrument he can. Very talented in that realm of things but many others are as well." Lord Anaxagoras said to their guests from the London Ministry. "we, my wife and I are very proud to have taken him in when he entered the program."
Hadrian shared a smile with his father, but hated it when they praised him. Soon after the dinner was served and the family with their guest enjoyed the fine plate of Greek food. Small talk filled the table all until the dessert came at the end.
"So Mr. Anaxagoras, are you ready for school to return?" One of the guests asked Hardian.
"I am not officially their son, sir, it's Potter." Hadrian said, noticing the guests all stop to look, "I will be going into my ninth year, the higher secondary courses. I plan to get a few masters."
"Potter you said?" One shocked asked, he was the one his father didn't quite like.
"Yes sir, it is I am their eldest" Hadrian said showing the heir rings, of both Black and Potter "though we haven't talked in a few years now."
"I never knew they had an older son." He muttered under his breath, mostly to himself but he was still heard.
A bit uncomfortable now the third one started up "Lord Anaxagoras, in creating a corporation, London and a few other schools have been putting together a tournament. Not like that last version." He added hastily at the end knowing the past version they didn't want any part of it.
"Yes I heard that in passing, what does this tournament pertain?" Lord Anaxagoras asked leaning back in his chair.
"Well there are two parts in it, one would be a dueling tournament and another would be a set of tasks for the champion of the school. Similar to the last style but offer more of a challenge not the death part. Though we understand your school runs differently."
"Indeed that is correct, while the standard of a magical is seven years, we have ten. Starting from 9 to 18. If we do agree to this you will have all eligible students go, there is no selection."
"Right and the others all have agreed with that term, it is only fair."
"Yes, the other part of your letter mentions you wanted protection of something, my people created years ago."
"Correct Lord Anaxagoras, we are using the Goblet of Fire-"
"That old cup" Lady Anaxagoras scuffed
"Yes, its Greek fire has never ended-"
"And it never will. Minister."
"Anyway" Lord Anaxagoras interrupted the conversation "What kind of protection will you want?"
"We are asking for your age line and a barrier, only those willingly and wanting to be put into the tournament. Something we know your warding stones would help out. Instead all relying on one man."
Lord Anaxagoras nodded then looking at his adopted son "Tell me Hadrian what was your last subject in classes for warding."
Hadrian gave his father a pointed look "Ancient runes, Madam Perkins had us working on boundaries and stones. Arithmancy, Professor Louis' class was decoding unseen wards."
Lord Anaxagoras smiled, "Very well, you see minister I am glad to lend resources, the ninth class is capable of doing just that even the Tenth class are capable. Though why is my question."
The minister turned a bit queasy, and didn't offer an answer. It was the Auror that came with the answer "we have reason to believe that our dark lord is finding a way to return. His minions have already attacked once, it is our knowledge this year he will try to return to power." He finished with a look towards Hadrian.
"I see, even though we keep to ourselves we keep informed of what's happening. It is a saddening thought if he returns. So you want protection, I can grant that wish only again no harm comes to any students, you allow entry to any of them wanting to go no matter their blood."
The Lord looked pointedly at the Minister and the guests, the minister only lasted a few seconds under his gaze. "Right yes that can be agreed with, though we do ask you and your family to be present at some of the main events." The Lord nodded "here is a contract."
The minister passed the parchment to the Lord who had his son read it over before he did himself. Silently they talked about each point and making sure it was more beneficial to them. After Hadrian nodded did the Lord look back up. "Very well all looks in order, we will move this to my study to finalize everything else."
The Lord stood first, nodding to his wife and son, leading the Minister to the study. The other two stayed a bit uncomfortable but tried to hide it.
Hadrian looked to the Auror, "your an auror right?" he waited to get a nod "my godfather is one, I could tell the way you sit. Sirius arrives in about a week."
"Sirius" the Auror opened his eyes in shock and fear "Sirius Black is your godfather."
"Ummm ya?" Hadrian said confusingly, holding up his heir rings.
"He is a very powerful person, he trained me. Scary when it comes to trans. and charms."
"Ya I bet, we get into a lot of crazy things when he visits." Hadrian said with a prominent smirk that told of many troubling things for some.
"Mr. Potter," the other guest said with a slight uneasy feel "have you thought anything about what you want to go into as a career?"
"Not really," he said, sending a look to his mum. "I am pretty talented with anything, I haven't found that passion for just anything, not yet at least."
The lady smiled, "I totally understand it, for me it took a while to decide. Being born in England, how do you like being here away from your family?"
Hadrian gave a soft smile, knowing his mother never liked to talk about them, they fell from grace she says. Ignoring one child and to do so carelessly is just wrong. The first year it was great they responded, shared gifts, pictures. When Hadrian came home for the summer they forgot to pick him up. Lin had a playdate, they said. So Hadrian spent the summer with Sirius. After that the letters became fewer and fewer, Lin had special training, they said. Couldn't give one son, their eldest, the time of day. Slowly as the years passed Hadrian stopped coming home for the summer, focused on studying. Though Sirius became a welcomed guest to the family. One year, letter after letter, the communication stopped with his family. He sent many, all unopened with no responses planned. Hadrian stopped hoping his family would care when they didn't show up to the ceremony, graduating from the primary education and going to lower secondary.
It was then after three years Hadrian stopped trying, he had Sirius and the two parents who raised him and supported him in his studies. They were his family.
"It is most definitely a home away from home, my family at home haven't really talked in a few years. And I haven't been back, I focused more on studying," Hadrian responded diplomatically.
Hadrian knew this was a new surprise to the London workers. The Potter family had an eldest son, one the public forgot about. It was not long after that discussion did his father come back with the Minister. Giving their departing greetings the three guests left for the night heading back to their country.
"Well you answered that admirably," his mother said putting her arm around her adopted son, he looked over to her and his mop of black hair danced in the slight breeze, emerald eyes a lit in the night sky. "I am proud of you, you know that right?"
Hadrian ducked his head with a chuckle, "yes mum I know." He said softly as he put his arms around her, giving her a small hug.
"What is this, a family moment I am missing?" his dad jokingly hurt, Hadrian laughed with his mum as his dad joined the bear hug. "Alright who wants some Smores?"
Ever since they went camping many years ago his dad couldn't get rid of the craving of Smores. It now turned into a family summer tradition, to have smores over a burning flame. While sitting around comfortably each with a sandwich already made and more on the way, Hadrian smiled. This is what he missed growing up. After whatever his brother did he lost it. Now though he got it back. "Mum when does Roseamond return?" Hadrian asked about his step sister.
"A week before school, why?" Her sapphire blue eyes shined brightly in the flickering light.
Hadrian only shrugged but his parents knew he loves her to death, he was the big brother always there for her.
The next morning Hadrian found himself standing at the gate, waiting nervously for his godfather to show. It was a standing tradition for him to come the last week in July for his birthday. Though the gate is closing in a half an hour, with their secret the gate only opens during specific hours of the day to negate any travelers that might be by.
Looking down at his watch the one Sirius gave him, he felt himself fill with hope, the seconds ticked down. The bell rang, Sirius didn't make it, for the first time in history. "Sorry your highness we can't keep it open any longer."
Hadrian lifted his head to the guard who spoke, with a smile he responded "it is quite alright, have a good rest of your day." With hurtful tears springing up he turned heading to his home, hearing a happy birthday from the people as he passed. Though he didn't really pay any attention.
Making his way to his home, he ran through not wanting anything to do but to go to his room. It was the heir suite. Hadrian got the chance to pick any in the wing and this was the one. The greens and blues decorated wall and furniture, by the ceiling was what made the decision for him. Above was the depiction of the sky, any time day and night, rain and, sunny, it was the sky. At night he would look up at the stars and planets that were light years away. The calming space, which was why he was so good at Astronomy, so good he tested out of it after three years.
He fell on the bed in a fit of tears, why this again. It was only one time he missed, porbly working or something. He never understood how he could ask for so little and get nothing in return. Once he faced a bogart in second year. It was nothing, but later he realized it was being alone. He fears abandonment. That was a very long talk with his parents telling him he wasn't going to be left alone. Ever.
Sitting up after calming down, Hadrian heard a tap on the window. A delivery Owl was sitting at the perch, with a flick of his hand the window opened. Even though his family doesn't talk to him he still loves them. And even if they don't respond to his letters anymore he decided to buy a paper to at least have an idea what his family was up to.
Landing he gave the owl his pay and some food for the trip, Hadrian unrolled the paper. It was shocking, shameful, horrible in big bold words.
"Top Auror injured in latest Death Eater attack at the Quidditch World Cup."
Auror black was out enjoying a night with his long time friend James Potter and his godson Linfred seeing the yearly Quidditch game when late that night Death Eaters stormed the place. Luckily the death toll was none with the help of the top Auror and Hit Wizard Black and ex-Auror James Potter. By the end of the attack Black was hit with a Dark Curse and the Dark Mark was raised into the air by the Boy-Who-Lived Linfred Potter's Wand. It is unclear at the moment how the wand got into the Death Eaters hand and the Auror department is looking into it. As of now the Potter family are continuously at St. Mungo's, where Auror black is intensive care with the best healers making sure he will see another day. Dear readers send the Potter family all your love for they need it...
Hadrian sat slowly on the edge of the bed not truly noticing he missed and slid to the floor. In all the conflicting emotions Hadrian felt numb, not one he has felt since his ninth birthday. Words filled his head Godson, Injured over and over.
One frightened thought he tried to push out of his mind. He Moved On. The last family member moved on. There is no reason to ever return. Get on with his plan. The Potter and Black house is his no matter what, after being accepted. But Injured. Was he okay, if he was there Sirius wouldn't have gotten hurt. He should be there with Sirius, he should be here to get the best treatment but… what if Sirius moved on…
All the while Hadrian didn't hear his mum calling for him, or that his dad got burned by the flames around him. They even called the guards, all failing to get through. With one particular spell Hadrian collapsed into darkness.
"...I know it was because of this paper he insists on having."
"Darling you know he still thinks of them as family, he needs to know for his own sanity."
"For his own sanity one that just about burned this whole wing."
"I don't know what to say, his power just keeps growing, he may not even be aware of it. When an episode happens, but I know it's his Godfather he is worried about and once he wakes I will take him to him."
"Well it seems that it will be soon look who's waking up."
"Hadrian, come on, open your eyes," his mum softly called to him while feeling her fingers combing his hair. Hadrian's eyes opened albeit slowly as he processed what happened. It was another episode, he hadn't had one since.. "Shh it's alright, don't fight me. No matter how old you get. You still need a hug once in a while." She soothed him while rapping him in a mother's hug.
Hadrian wasn't too sure what to do but cry at that moment, he clung to his only mother he had. After a few silent moments he moved still next to his mum resting his head on her shoulder, her hands still softly playing with his nest of hair. "Κόραξ, no matter what, I can promise you, to the ends of time, we will never leave you. No matter what."
"I-is da-dad okay?" He sheepishly asked seeing the memory of his father getting burned by his magic. He sharply closed his eyes as more tears fell down his face.
"No need to cry Κόραξ he is alright by tonight he will be tramping around the house as good as new. It was an accident he is not mad at you. More like worrying about you like a mamma bear."
"What are you then?"
"Cheeky are we" she smirked at him while they fell into chuckles. "Alright up we get, your father is taking you to your godfather. We will make sure he is in the best hands. You needed not think of those other thoughts." Hadrian nodded while following his mother by getting up, once up he was pulled into another hug by his mum. He complained a little bit but quiet down as she wouldn't let him go when she was in this mood. Wiping off any traces of tears left on his face she smiled. "Now your father is waiting, ever so patiently, for you. Maybe the two of you go shopping heavens knows he needs to get out of the house more often."
Hadrian couldn't help but laugh at his mother's sarcastic way but it was true about his father. The man who had no patients. Together they walked over to the sitting area in the family wing, and she was right, his father was passing back and forth in front of the fireplace. The second he laid his eyes on him he engulfed Hadrian into a bear hug. "Oh I was so worried son, σ'αγαπώ, σ'αγαπώ.."
"Love you to dad." Was his muffled response into his father's chest.
"Alright, we must make sure your godfather is in the best of care." He pushed his son away a bit but still his hands laying on his shoulders. He smiled down at him enjoying the bright emerald green ocean eyes of his sons, he was definitely a proud father.
Fifteen minutes later saw father and son at the gate with a few guards and the family healer, each in pairs they apparate away to their destination. St. Mungo's.
"Hello what room is Sirius Black?" Hadrian as politely as he could, asked the receptionist in the front of the Hospital.
An elder lady with black hair and a lazy eye looked at him through her glasses then by to her desk, "family only may see him."
"I am family." Hadrian says heatedly but calmed down slightly when his dad put a hand on his shoulder "I am his godson."
A hard stare and an annoyed hum she replied "you are not he is currently in his room, good day."
"Tell me where he is now-"
"Is that a threat boy?" The lady stood up from her chair now angry.
"No madame. I am wanting to visit my godfather and have the healer give me the details about his health, as Heir Black and Heir Potter."
Her eyes grew in confusion, "Very well let me look then." She then left into a back room.
While they were waiting Enyo pulled his son to the side, "Hadrian Charlus, what has gotten you all wild up?"
Hadrian looked into his father's worried eyes, "father" he noticed his dad tense at the term, "I am just worried is all. I guess. He is the only thing left from my child, my birth family all but forgot about me. I just don't want to lose him…" Hadrian lowered his head in fear and worried.
Enyo sighed he knew no matter what his son still had abandonment issues even if said boy doesn't admit it. Taking his fingers on his right hand raising his head to look at him, "you are my son no matter what, even if the sky is falling you will be my son. Nothing will take us away from you. I am so very proud of you and Rose she looks up to her big brother, your mother worries about you day in day out. Sirius, yes is your last connection to your birth pace but I know that man he also raised you, you wear his family ring and is his heir. He will never leave you. The bond just won't allow that. Soo breath son no one is leaving you any time soon."
It was then the lady came back with two other people, one was a tall man with salt and pepper hair the other was a young lady looking like an assistance. "Please follow me. I am Healer Pye the Potter's family healer, seeing to Lord Black."
Hadrian was shocked, so his father asked his question as they followed the Healer "Healer Pye how long have you been the Potter's healer?"
"A year after their son was born, young Linfred," the healer answered with a smile "their previous Healer fell into madness about another son they had, but it is not my place to say."
"Right, well we are here about Lord Black, how is he?"
"He was with some kind of dark curse but we can't seem to pin it out in order to find the counter. Though he is stable."
They came up to the room and the healer stepped aside, "his godson was still in the room when I checked on Lord Black, So he might return in a little bit. I will go get the paperwork for his transfer."
"Thank you for all that you did healer, we will keep you updated on his health." Hadrian added at the end getting a nod from the healer before he walked down the hall.
He slowly followed his dad into the room, seeing Sirius on the bed while his family healer tended to his godfather. It was only five minutes of watching them when a young teen came into the room. He stopped and Hadrian deduced that it was his brother, Linfred, well it was always a good time to say hello to his brother. "Who the hell are you and what is going on?"
A/N: afternoon, hope you enjoyed! Sending some wishes to you all and stay safe, from here it will not jump time as much as the first chapter and second. Again I hope enjoyed and thanks for the reads. Let me know if there is something I could add, Keep On Smiling. Elavira Belini
