Seventh day in confinement.

From what L keeps bringing up since his third day of incarceration, the Kira killings stopped. Reasonably, everyone in the task force suspects him now.

'Without a doubt on his mind', as L would nicely put it, as he kisses him passionately that sometimes makes him think that this is turning him on somehow.

Still, from what he could tell during his interactions with Watari, the elder man is starting to notice, as his suspicions are confirmed with every mark carelessly left there by L, and the increasing amount of sweat and unmentionable fluids laying around the cell. Light could tell that he did not approve.

He almost felt sorry for the poor old man who somehow could still not trust anyone to be in charge of 'clean up duty'. But his remorse easily leaves him the moment Watari unceremoniously scrubs his skin in the roughest way he can, giving him the smallest amount of bathroom breaks just enough for it to still be considered humane, and hastily giving him the same change of clothes, which from the still moist feel of the fabric felt like it has been hastily washed and dried then and there.

It could almost pass for torture.

But still he was the only one keeping him alive, and he sometimes gives him the leftover ice cream when he asks nicely, however just the same amount of water intake for the minimal bathroom breaks to be possible.

Despite this, Light completely understands Watari's behaviour towards him, the most logical Kira suspect given the circumstances. It did not help him in the slightest that he was banging the lead investigator almost every night. Does Watari consider L his son? That would really explain if you think about it. Maybe even with this Watari is letting him off easily.

Anyway, it has gone on long enough.

Light is aware of what would happen next, but he still wonders if he was really prepared for it. Like L said, it will be a long, pointless and excruciatingly painful investigation going forward. Especially for him, and for what he was about to do. Can he really make amends with his future self?

Nonetheless, it has to be done sooner or later.

"Raito-kun, it's only been one week, but you're looking worn out, are you okay there?"

L really likes teasing him when he knows people are watching. This is another thing that he would probably miss when he decides to let go.

This may be the hardest decision he has to make ever since he decided to use the death note. But it has to be done.

'Now that I've come this far, I think it's about time', he thought resolutely.

"Yes", he answered. "I know I probably look terrible in here, but I don't need such useless pride. I'll get rid of it."

For a moment L thought that Light was saying something strange, but they have been going on about this for seven days. Maybe he was just trying something new. L dismissed this thought and just made a note about it for when he would visit this disturbed teen later.

But this time it is different. Light knew that the Shinigami heard as well.

"Got it", Ryuuk said. "Goodbye"

'So this starts now huh', Light thought as he feels his consciousness suddenly slipping away.
