Fifteen days has passed.
It has been boring the past few weeks. L was just about ready to give up and conclude that Light is in fact Kira.
L could not exactly point out exactly what happened, or maybe he does but is just as stubborn to admit.
It was a week ago when everything felt like everything was going down the drain.
L could not remember how Light said it exactly, but is still convinced that it was at that point where everything got weird. He first thought that the boy was just experimenting with his words. But then everything went downhill from there. He knew the boy was not exactly teasing him, or if he was, he was doing a good job pulling it off for seven days.
Somehow, Light's entire personality changed in an instant, and immediately threw out the idea that he could be Kira, but that somehow someone was trying to frame him for being Kira. He was rather passionate about it, that he even told L to look at him in the eye. L wondered why Light asked for that. It usually doesn't go well after that, judging from experience.
And, as expected, things didn't go well after that, even when L decided to meet Light again in his cell that night. He was no longer teasing him from what he can tell. He kept insisting to let him out.
L got a bit scared that he did not even attempt to get inside. It felt weird. Something was really off. Honestly it seemed like this new found passion of Light has been a total mood kill.
He did not go back to Light's cell after that.
Rather, he just watched Light at every moment, looking for an explanation at the sudden personality change. He seems submissive most of the time, especially when Watari was trying to clean him up. He just keeps telling him that he is not Kira to anyone who would listen. L thought that it would be so annoying for Watari to deal with a teen like that, but on the contrary it appears that he is giving him some slack, and sometimes giving him more bathroom breaks.
Maybe the absence of the nightly visits were helping Light's case in that regard. Watari seems to be more helpful to even L, and the frequency of treats has increased. Maybe he was in a good mood after all.
But in any case, it has been boring watching the same thing everyday, every waking minute. He was getting sick of hearing Light say his innocence. He was starting to feel frustrated about it all, and it was all Light's fault.
And then some news finally came.
Kira started killing criminals again. Two weeks worth of it.
Matsuda was so quick to point that out. Well, most of the task force could not hide their excitement after that. It meant that Light was not Kira. They can stop doing this confinement.
But L would have none of that. Not with all the weird circumstances happening. He swatted Matsuda's hand and was clearly annoyed when he was about to tell Light the good news.
It is too early for Light to know what he has done.
"Raito-kun, it has been two weeks since the killings stopped. Why don't you just admit that you are Kira"
"I am telling you, Ryuuzaki. I am not Kira. It may seem like I am but I am not. Please take me out of this cell already!"
L was really starting to get annoyed.
Light simply did not back down. Everyone seems convinced that he is not Kira. But L does not want to give Light that satisfaction just yet.
This seems like it is going to be a long battle of wills.
"Let us just wait which of us is going to crack first", L thought as he continued watching Light intently.
…
Fifty days have passed.
The results were not pretty.
Even L thought that this was too much. Everyone's already turned against him. It was only his pride that kept him from calling it off and admitting that he really overdid it this time.
Light for sure will not do that, as miserable looking as he was. He still kept saying he was innocent. Maybe he really thinks he was? Maybe he was not playing games with L this time around.
L could not decide which is which.
One thing is for sure, he could not continue arguing with the task force and expect them to completely believe his conviction with Light.
"It's already been 50 days. There's no reason to be doing this" even Aizawa, who was the most reasonable of the team, has already had enough. "We should be thinking of ways to catch the real Kira"
L had to agree. Looking at the teen, it would seem like he would be closer to death than to admitting anything at this point. Guess a different approach is in order.
He turned the communication to Souichiro.
"Yagami-san. Will you return to task force headquarters?"
