"Make yourself at home, Raito-kun" L said as soon as they entered their own private room. "You need to rest for tomorrow"
It has been an eventful couple of days to say the least. With him finally admitting to himself that confining the suspects longer would not do anyone any good, he quickly came up with a plan that would prove that Light indeed was innocent. At least at this point anyway. Light could still be Kira, but lost his memory somehow.
The plan was a bit cruel for the parties involved, and involved a lot of emotions. Watching from the cameras he could see various emotions running through the two suspects, especially Light. This was the first time for L to see him full of those emotions, to be honest. He was really fearing for his life, and was so desperate to convince his father that he was innocent. Among this, he could feel a hint of betrayal from his father who was supposed to protect him, and how after all he did he was still going to die. Lastly, the look of relief when he realised that his father did not really want to kill him.
It was very interesting, L thought. All of those things seem to happen all at once, like being in a movie. More importantly, he found it so interesting for Light, having just experienced the biggest shock in his life, quickly regain his composure and enthusiasm when he hears that he would now be permitted to join the investigation. Light was truly a master of his own emotions, to the point that only during the possibility of death was there a chance for him to lose it all.
He really wanted to observe him more, and discover more, and so arrangements has been made for him to be with Light 24 hours everyday.
Of course there were objections along the way, but L was still in charge of the investigation. He has to remind everyone that Light's involvement in the investigation is still a privilege, and the suspicion that he might still be Kira has not been lifted.
Still, he had to make these arrangements to make the members of the team as comfortable as possible, or else everyone would be hating their job right now. That includes having a sky rise hastily built at the center of Tokyo, complete with state of the art security features that are not even available to the strictest government facilities.
He dedicated a room to each of the task force members, and Misa Amane, although her room was filled with security cameras to monitor her every move. Of course only Watari has full access to these cameras.
Finally, he gets to share a private floor with Light. This is the only room without any cameras placed on every square meter, as L still wanted his privacy. But he did not inform Light of this, just to be safe. He knew that Light needs his sleep, and unlike him would not be able to function without a reasonable amount of rest. Maybe he can still work when Light is asleep, or maybe he can just observe his primary suspect in silence.
"Will these cuffs stay on even when I take a shower?" Light asked anxiously.
"Yes, they will, Raito-kun", he confirmed. "There is nothing to be embarrassed about, I have seen them before"
Light blushed, but quickly hid it. L pretended not to notice.
"You do recall that we already did it a couple of times during your incarceration?"
"Y-yeah…but it's still awkward."
"You have to deal with it, Raito-kun." L reminded. "If you want to be a part of this investigation."
"Fine" Light resigned. "Do you have a change of clothes somewhere?"
"The closet is there, Raito-kun"
"…uh, Ryuuzaki," Light turned at him as soon as he opened the closet. "Do you only keep the same set of clothes…"
"They are easy and comfortable to wear, Raito-kun" L explained. "But I now see that it is not to your liking. Unfortunately we are short-staffed at the moment. I cannot just ask anyone to shop new clothes for you…"
"It's okay, I'll just ask my Dad to bring me something…"
"Yagami-san is also busy at the moment I am afraid" L quickly added. "But if you are really desperate I can assist you in clothes shopping tomorrow"
Light looked at him in disbelief. Then raised his hands which are currently cuffed.
"I can't be seen with this and not look weird"
"Just for this time I can make an exception. I will take off the cuffs when we are in public"
Light's face brightened.
"But you must hold my hand at all times"
The smile quickly faded.
"You planned this from the start, huh?"
"I did not do such a thing, Raito-kun"
Light scoffed.
"Yeah, right" he considered it for a moment. "But it's been a while since I've seen the outside world. Maybe this can be a nice change of pace"
Light looked at L while deep in thought.
"Alright, let's do it tomorrow"
"It's a date then, Raito-kun"
"It is not!" Light protested.
L was amused at the sudden childish remark.
"…but you will pay for everything, right?"
"Of course, Raito-kun"
L smiled, which made Light a bit uncomfortable.
"Now that we got that out of the way…"
"Yeah, I'm going to take a shower." Light confirmed. "And you also need one, if I am being honest"
"If you insist…"
Light threw an annoyed look at L , who just followed him at the bathroom without saying a word.
