A/N I DON'T OWN INUYASHA OR EVER AFTER
At the palace, people were chatting with each other, some were eating, some were dancing, but the Prince was not a part of it. He was watching the party from above. He was waiting for his father to show up so they could talk.
The king saw his son watching the party. He looked so sad "I understand you wanted to see me" Kouga looked over to his father, but he then turned back to look at the party.
"Yes, father I did"
"Listen, Kouga… perhaps it was unfair of me to put so much pressure on you…with this marriage contract… I just… I just thought it was time that you make changes in your life…. You seemed uninterested in the way you were living…but this whole university thing… it is a great idea… We don't have to announce anything tonight…..."
"I've made my decision" Kouga interrupted his father as he walked away from the King and went down to the party.
Meanwhile Kagome was on her way to the party… At the party Sango was eating food and Ginta had spotted them. He walked over to her because he too was in a horse's mask and thought she was beautiful so they started to talk… Kikyo and Kagura were looking for the Prince, so were other people. Not a moment later they heard trumpets to announce the Prince, King Kagura. Before the King sat down, he had something to announce...
Kagura and Kikyo held hands in hope "This is it; we have got this Kikyo, all your work has not in vein" she whispered
"My good people, my honoured guests… it gives us pleasure on this festive occasion… not only to honour Mr Jinenji who seems to have disappeared…. But also, to tell you all of a long-awaited decision… so without further ado…"
As the King was making this speech Kagome had just arrived. Jinenji had placed beautiful butterfly wings on the back of her dress and she had white makeup covering her eyes with a few white beads on her face. She was at the edge of the party as she heard
"… it is my great privilege to announce the engagement of our son…Prince Henry…to..."
Kouga looks up and sees Kagome and starts to make his way to her and everyone watches him do this... The King stops his talk and wonders what is going on. Kagura sees Kagome "Well, well, well. Look at what we have here" she said in an evil voice...
Once Kouga reached Kagome, they both shared a smile at seeing each other.
"My mother said you were getting married" said Kouga
"She was misinformed, but I must tell you something before another word has been spoken"
"Then you're not engaged?"
"No, I'm not" Kagome said with a smile
"I was about to make the worst mistake of my life, now come I want you to meet my parents"
"Wait.. I have something to tell you
Kouga grabs Kagome to take her to his parents, he looks over his shoulder to talk to Kagome "Whatever it is, my answer is yes"
"Wait please" she said but Kouga was not hearing her as he was so excited to introduce her to his parents. He points over to some people "Oh, look. I invited the Gypsies." As they were walking down the aisle to the King and Queen, Kagura grabbed Kikyo's hand and dragged her to the Prince "What are you doing?" asked Kikyo trying to understand what is going on "Making you a princess", both Kikyo and Kagura come out of the crowd and once Kagura reached Kagome and Kouga, Kagura ripped off one of the wings off Kagome's dress. Kagome lets out a surprised gasp, both Kagome and Kouga turn to Kagura.
"How dare you!" yelled Kagura as she ripped off the wing
"Madame calm down and contain yourself" said Kouga in an angry voice. Kagura looked towards Kagome and then to Kouga "She is an impostor, Sir" said Kagura
Kagome looked towards Kagura and tried to get her to stop what she was saying by pleading with her but Kagura would not stop "Her name is Kagome! She has been my servant for ten years!" she continued.
Everyone including the King and the Queen heard this and were outraged at the news "A servant, Kouga? Really is this a joke?"
Kouga was so shocked he did not know what to say. He looked to Kagura in an angry face "Careful, Baroness you are on dangerous grounds!" he said
Kagura, knowing she had won had a small smile on her face and just shrugged "Ask her yourself!" she said to the Prince. She continued being mean "She's a grasping, devious little pretender… and as her master I needed to expose her as the hoax she is"
"Enough… Rumiko… tell these women who you are… Tell them" Kouga said looking desperately at Kagome. He was trying to see in her eyes that what Kagura said was not true, that Kagome was not lying. Kagome was trying to say something, but nothing was coming out. Kouga looked at her face and said, "It's true…isn't it, Rumiko?" he asked
Kagome tried to stop the tears from coming and summoned enough courage to speak. She knew this would hurt him, but he needed to know the truth "Rumiko Takashi was my mother… I am what she says" she said moving closer to him, a look of realisation came across Kouga's face as he remembered Rumiko or Kagome which is her real name. THERE IS SOMETHING MISSING
"The apple? That was you?"
"I can explain" she said
Kouga looked angry and saddened at this "First, our engagement …and now you're a servant? I have had enough" Kouga starts to walk away so angry, sad and disappointed at what happened. Kagome called out to try to talk to him to explain what happened and why she did what she did.
"Kouga, please!"
The crowd starts whispering about what she had just said, Kouga turned to look at Kagome "Do NOT address me so informally, madam, I am a Prince… and you…. Are just like them" you could almost hear the tires and sadness in Kouga's voice. He then walked away. Kagome watched Kouga for a moment. She then ran away back to her manor. As she runs, Jinenji sees her and calls out to her. Kagome turns and falls down crying and as she cries it starts to rain. Kagome, not caring anymore, gets up and continues to run. Jinenji goes over to where Kagome was and sees one of her mother's shoes on the floor, so he picks it up and goes off to talk to Kouga.
Kouga was sitting in the rain, trying to figure out what had happened and just what was going on. This is how Jinenji found him "What have you done?" he said in an angry voice
"I was born into privilege and with that come specific obligations"
"That is a load of horseshit!"
Kouga got up and into Jinenji face "You are out of line, old man!" he yelled
"No, you are out of line! Do you have any idea what she went through to get here tonight? What will become of her now?"
"She lied to me"
"She came here to tell you the truth and you fed her to the wolves"
"What do you know…what do you know about love?"
Jinenji shakes his head in disappointment at the young Prince "I may be old, I may not know much, but what I do know is a life without love…. Is no life at all"
"And what of trust, how can love if there is no trust"
"She is your match"
"I am but a servant to my crown…and I have made my decision, I will not yield!
A loud thunderclap was heard over the silence that had fallen over them. Jinenji placed Kagome's shoe on a nearby ledge so Kouga could see it. When the rain hit the shoe they could hear a small clang like sound coming from the shoe…
"Then you don't deserve her"
