Chapter 9

Draco

He'd gotten detention twice, in one week. And with the same people! Granger and Snape. He wasn't complaining though. More alone time with Granger was completely welcome in his case. He'd found new hope after she'd dragged him into the broom closet. Perhaps she didn't hate him after all.

"Why weren't you here already?!" demanded Granger when he walked up to Snape's office.

"I'm not late!" he protested.

She sniffed. "You basically are. Our detention was for 8, and it's…" She looked around for a clock. "Well I don't know but you're cutting it much too close!"

Draco rolled his eyes. What did she want him to do? Be here early? That really wasn't his style. The door flung open at what Draco supposed was exactly eight.

"Inside." Snape growled. Both of them hurried inside, Snape seemed to be in a particularly bad mood tonight and neither of them wanted to cross him. He motioned for both of them to sit down at a long table, a stack of papers lay there for each of them.

"You'll be grading them." he snapped. Granger took out her quill and Draco the same, there was one bottle of ink for both of them to share. Within minutes he wanted to throw up. They were grading first years, he was 100% sure he wasn't this stupid as a first year. The barely decipherable scribbles gave him a headache and the grammar made him want to throw the papers in a blazing fire. He would have assumed Granger would feel the same, but she seemed to take great pleasure in slashing through wrong answers. She was done much too quickly.

"I'm done professor." she said.

"Dismissed." he waved his hand for her to go. Well she could've at least helped him. When she'd left Snape immediately began asking about his plans for Dumbledore.

"When do you plan to make a move?" he asked rather angrily. "You've waited much too long."

"I'm not going to do it." said Draco stubbornly staring the professor right in the eye. "I won't."

"Idiot child." the professor grabbed the neck of Draco's robes. "The Dark lord will kill you. You have to at least try."

"No. No. I don't want to."

"You'll be dead the second he finds out."

"Don't you understand!" Draco wrenched himself out of his professor's grasp. "I would rather die than kill someone! Even someone as daft as Albus Dumbledore!"

"I swore to your mother that I would keep you alive! That I would keep you safe!" Snape was shaking with fury.

"I don't care." And with that he stormed out, leaving behind a furious professor and stack of ungraded papers.

Hermione

She saw Draco storm out, truth was she'd been waiting for him, and then she'd followed him. He was… crying. She hadn't heard anything through the door, Snape had probably cast a silencing charm on the door. Had he suspected that she was outside? That was rather horrifying. Gulping, she decided to follow him. It wasn't like they were going to end up kissing again. She felt a blush creep up her cheeks but ignored it as she followed Draco. He went to the boys bathroom. Honestly was this his favorite crying place? He could at least find somewhere a little more private. Not where any male, or female she supposed, could come in and see him. She knocked softly on the wall.

"Hey." she called. "You okay?" Only sniffles answered and she took that as a no. Draco was in the corner head bent to his knees. He was silently shaking.

"What is it?" she asked softly. Slowly she put her arms around him and brushed the hair from his eyes. She was getting major deja vu.

"I-I-" His voice shook. "I can't tell you."

"Well can I… help?" Man she sounded so stupid. Draco looked up at her with his tear filled eyes. A weak smile spread across his face. He put one finger to his lips, tapping it. Oh. OH. He wanted her to kiss him. She certainly couldn't deny a sobbing boy. So she did. She kissed Draco Malfoy. Again. This time however she didn't obliviate him. She ran her fingers through his hair, and let him trace his tongue on her lower lip. She shivered. Why had she wanted to forget this? Because he probably is working for Voldemort. With a little gasp she pulled away. Draco looked confused.

"What is it? Did I-"

"No." she said. "You didn't do anything." And she fled the room leaving a very confused, but no longer crying Draco Malfoy. She hurried to the Gryffindor common room, muttering the password and storming in. She ran up to her dormitory, ignoring all the confused looks people were giving her. She flung her bag down and threw herself onto her bed. Thankfully she'd finished detention rather early and no one was in the room yet. She should probably go monitor Harry and Ginny to make sure they were actually getting stuff done instead of just snogging. She stuck her hand under her pillow to pull out her pajamas but felt a piece of parchment instead. She yanked it out thinking that it was an old assignment she'd attempted to discard. But it was a letter. From her grandma.

Dearest Hermione,

I sure hope you are doing well. I haven't seen you since you were nine years old can you believe it! But we have more important things to talk about right now. Listen, I know you are almost a woman now. So you probably are dating some lovely young man. Draco Malfoy I presume? You have kissed him twice now so I certainly hope you are dating. I'm sure he's lovely. But you should probably tell him about the first kiss so things don't get too messy later on when it comes out. Trust me. EVERYTHING comes out one way or another. Miss you my dear.

Lots of love,

Gran

Gran had written her a letter. The most disturbing part wasn't that her gran knew all of this, it was that her gran was dead. My dead grandma is giving me advice on my love life. This isn't real. It couldn't be. Come on Hermione you're a witch, there is a very high possibility this could be real. She gave out a little shriek and fell onto her pillows. Did she really have to spell everything in all caps?

"I hate my life." she moaned, face first into her pillows.

"Ah, me too." groaned Lavender, walking in a flopping onto her bed.

"What happened to you?" asked Hermione. Anything to take her mind off this, even Lavender's brainless ramblings.

"I saw Ron snogging Pansy today. I was really hoping he would ask me out." she sighed. "Oh well. Guess it's not meant to be."

"That sucks." Hermione said, nodding.

"What about you?" Lavender asked.

"Oh, well. Uh. Boy trouble too I suppose."

"Oooooh!" Lavender squealed. "Whose the guy? Or guys."

Hermione blushed. "You know Draco?" She could feel the blush creeping to her ears and all the way down to her toes. The back of her scalp prickled in embarrassment. Lavender screamed, actually screamed.

"Draco Malfoy!" She giggled. "That is… wow."

Hermione scratched the back of her neck. "Uh huh."

"Did you guys kiss?"

She should've just stayed quiet. She didn't say anything and Lavender screamed again.

"You did! Hermione Granger you are… incredible."

"Thanks?" she said.

Ginny

She'd had to have brushed her teeth ten times already. She'd accidentally eaten some garlic at dinner. And in case they kissed, she did not want to have garlic breath. She had waited in the common room for Harry, checking her breath every few seconds.

"Ready?" he asked, coming down from his dormitory.

"Yeah." she said. She may or may not kiss Harry Potter tonight.

"Let's go then." he said, holding up the book. They left the common room and she did her best to not look too happy. They almost had made it up to the astronomy tower when they ran into Luna.

"Hello." said Luna, looking back and forth between the two of them. Of Luna please don't say anything weird. She silently begged.

"Are you two on a date of sorts?" she asked, smiling a little. Ginny and Harry looked at each other, neither saying a thing. Luna clapped her hands together and rocked back on her heels.

"I'll just leave you two!" She said, skipping off. Probably to go look for pudding in the kitchen.

"Er- shall we?" Harry asked, turning slightly red.

"Uh huh." said Ginny. She really hoped she didn't burst into nervous giggles. They went into Myrtle's bathroom, checking to make sure no one was there. Just Myrtle.
"Harry." Myrtle sniffed. "Where have you been? I haven't seen you since-since last year!" She practically screamed.

"Sorry?" said Harry, looking uneasy.

"You have the letter?" Ginny asked, ignoring Myrtle's cries. He pulled it out of his pocket waving it around. They sat down together and flipped open the book.

"Where is it." Harry murmured. His mouth was really close to her ear and she could feel his warm breath blowing onto her neck. She fought back shivers of delight. He stopped flipping the pages of the book.

"Is that it?" she whispered. She didn't know why she was whispering. It was all to quiet all of a sudden. Myrtle was gone and it seemed the fountains had even stopped their gurgling. There was no sound except for their breathing. Their heads were bent over the page but neither of them were reading a thing. She listened to the sound of him breathing in and out. She looked over at him to examine the shape of his lips, the curve of his nose, the tousled hair. She wasn't really thinking anymore. Who cared about the spell anyway? It was probably best that Hermione was here when they did it. So… Ginny leaned her head a little closer to Harry and their noses brushed, her lips parted, and she was about to close the space between them when,

"GUYS I JUST GOT A LETTER FROM MY DEAD GRANDMA!"
