Chapter 10

Ginny

She and Harry sprang apart and Ginny was too startled by what Hermione had said to be mad. Well, sorta. She had been this close to kissing Harry!

"Wait what?!" Harry got to his feet.

"My dead grandma sent me a letter!" Hermione shrieked.

"What did she want?" Ginny asked, unable to help herself.

"Oh!" Hermione came over to them brushing her bushy hair from her face.

"Don't be mad. And uh- here. Just read it!" She thrust the letter at her and Harry. Together they read the contents. Ginny had to hold back laughter.

"You obliviated Draco because you kissed!" She did her best not to look like this was drop dead hilarious.

"Okay okay I know! I may have overreacted." Hermione's voice was shrill as she took the letter back. Harry ran a hand through his hair and said,

"This is weird. Because my mum sent a letter to Snape. And she's dead."

"Do you think the two are connected?" Ginny asked.

"They have to be!" Hermione looked feverishly between the two of them.

"Did you two get started yet?" she asked.

Ginny and Harry looked at each other, smiling a little. Hermione groaned,

"Guys. This is important. Here we'll just start now."

"Isn't it a little late?" Ginny was ready to go dream about nearly kissing Harry.

"No, we'll be fine. Just keep your voices down." Hermione said.

"What about Malfoy?" Harry asked.

"He'll live." Hermione sniffed and held out her hand for the book, Harry handed it to her and she flipped to a different page.

"Oh. So we were on the wrong page." Ginny muttered.

"I didn't care about pages." she heard him murmur. Her brain seemed to have gone into full on mush mode. She shook herself, focus. Hermione motioned for them to come closer as she said the incantation for Harry's letter.

"Reflectorus."

Ginny screamed when a redhead that wasn't her, suddenly appeared.

"Shhh." Hermione hissed. Ginny watched the scene before her eyes. The lady who must have been Lily was crying at some sort of bar over a mug. A very young looking Snape noticed her and walked over.

"Lily?" he asked softly. Lily sniffled and said,

"Sev?" Turning to look at him. Snape sat down next to her.

"What is it? Why aren't you-"

"With James? Because we had this awful fight Severus! It was horrible! And I ran out of the house and he must hate me now!" Lily sobbed.

"I'm sure he doesn't hate you." Ginny could tell that he didn't really believe that.

"You didn't hear all the things we said to each other!" she sniffled.

"Uh, yeah. I guess I didn't." Snape said uneasily. Very slowly he stuck out his hand for Lily to hold. Oh my God this is so awkward. Ginny thought. Lily grabbed his hand and suddenly buried her face in his shoulder. Snape patted her back carefully as she cried. He was literally the worst comforter ever. Ginny looked to see how Harry was doing, he looked confused and a little terrified.

"Severus." Lily whispered into his ear. "Can we go to your place?"

"Lily…" he trailed off.

"Please." she begged. He nodded.

"Okay." Everyone disappeared in a puff of smoke. Harry looked sick.

"You alright?" she asked. He shrugged.

"Er- that was, I don't know. It's weird seeing Snape not mad I guess."

"But these couldn't have come from the people themselves." Hermione muttered under her breath.

"I guess not, but who's sending them?" Ginny was getting more and more confused by the second.

"That's the question isn't it?" Hermione was beginning to get that crazed look in her eyes.

"It's too late to go to the library Hermione." Ginny groaned.

"It's never too late to go to the library!" Hermione insisted.

"I'm sure we can carry this on tomorrow." Harry said.

"Yeah definitely." Ginny said. "Right Hermione? And maybe you should go look for Draco while you're at it."

"Oh shut up." Hermione looked thoughtful. "Fine. I guess we can wait until tomorrow."

"Goodnight guys." Harry waved to the both of them and left the bathroom.

"So did you guys…" Hermione raised an eyebrow at Ginny.

"No! But we were about to! This close Hermione! This close!" Ginny sighed and shook her head.

"Come on let's go."

Draco

He kept touching his lips, trying to remember what it felt like to have Granger kiss him. Like a dove fluttering against his lips- Granger had inspired him to write poetry. God what was happening to him. He fell back against his pillows and tried to bury his screams in them. His life was a mess. Everything was falling apart and there was nothing he could do to stop it. He just had to sit here and wait for the Dark lord to find out that he intended to do nothing and then kill him. He wasn't ready to die. Not yet. He'd kissed Granger sure, but… now. He couldn't just die.

After a night of no sleep he hurried downstairs looking for Granger. She better not cold shoulder him, especially since she had been the one to kiss him.

"Malfoy!" It was Harry hurrying to catch up to him.

"Potter?" he asked.

"Hermione got a letter from her dead grandma and we think it's connected to the one that Snape got from my mum." Draco stopped in his tracks.

"She got a letter from her dead grandma! What did it say?" Harry rubbed the back of his neck and motioned for them to keep walking.

"She may have mentioned her relationship with you."

Great. "Granger's dead grandma knows about… us? Or whatever we are?"

"Uh yeah. Seems so. And listen, she said something else but I'm pretty sure Hermione will want to tell you herself." They entered the Great Hall.

"Is it good?" He coughed. "Whatever she's going to tell me?"

Harry cocked his head, "Well…" He stopped, noticing something. "She's right there, go ask to see the letter." He hurried to sit next to Ginny. Big help Potter. He ignored the glares from the Slytherin table as he walked over and sat next to Granger.

"Can I see the letter?" he asked. He had wanted to say something smooth but at the moment his brain was drawing up blanks. Hermione sputtered out some of the cereal she'd been eating.

"Please?" he tried.

"Alright. Fine." she said in a rather small voice. She handed him the letter from her dead grandma and Draco began to read. We've already kissed. She kissed me! Without me asking! And then she'd obliviated me but that was really besides the point.

"So… Are we?" Are we dating?! Hermione flushed,

"Listen. I like you okay? But… I don't know you." she said.

"You can get to know me before you decide anything!" he insisted. Was he too pushy?

She said nothing for a couple seconds and Draco began to worry before she finally said,

"Okay." And left. Okay! But I can't get to know you if you aren't here! He supposed he should go back to the Slytherin table now, sighing he got up and left Potter and Weasley.

Harry

It was disturbing really, seeing Snape without a sneer on his face. It was even weirder seeing him look at someone with affection. Harry shuddered. He had a parent now, just what he'd always wanted. Too bad Snape hated his guts, the feeling was mutual however. It seemed Snape had no intention of ever telling Harry so it would all come to nothing. Snape didn't want a son and although Harry wanted a dad he certainly didn't want it to be Severus Snape. It was so stressful going into potions, hoping that Snape would just ignore him like always. And it was even more stressful knowing that dead people were sending letters! Oh and he'd nearly forgotten! He was the bloody chosen one who had to defeat Voldemort!

"Mate!" It was Ron, looking rather pasty as he hurried to join Harry on his way to transfiguration.

"Yeah?" Harry slowed down so that Ron could catch up.

"I just got a letter from my dead Uncle Charlie! And he says that I should talk to you because you have something to tell me. And that Pansy and I should come out about our relationship!"

For a second Harry was stupid enough to think that Uncle Charlie was talking about him and Ginny almost kissing, but then he realized it was probably about Snape being his...dad.

"Listen, tonight we're going to be in Myrtle's bathroom doing… uh something about the letters. So just be there by eight alright?"

Ron nodded, then looked confused, "Letters? Like I'm not the only one who got one?"

Harry clapped Ron on the back. "That's right! Wait till you hear what Snape's said."

"What did it say?"

"You'll just have to wait and see."

"Harry you can't do that to me! Just leave me hanging!"

Harry grinned and shrugged.

"Come on. Let's go see Mcgonallgal."

Later that day Harry and Ginny hurried to Myrtle's bathroom. For the first time Harry wondered if Ron would approve of him and Ginny. He really hoped so as he fully intended to ask her to Hogsmeade later that week.

"We can never have a normal year at Hogwarts can we?" Ginny groaned as they entered Myrtle's bathroom.

"Then it wouldn't be Hogwarts." Harry had hoped sure, but hadn't truly expected it. Dead people sending letters? Could be worse.

"Finally!" Hermione yanked Harry and Ginny inside and shut the door.

"We have to make a plan to get Snape's blood!" Hermione looked stressed, her hair even bushier than usual and her voice a pitch.

"I wouldn't say that too loud if I was you." Ginny said, looking around nervously. The door creaked open and the three whirled around to see who it was. Ron.

"Hey. Er- Harry told me to come. Because I got a letter too."

"Oh my God." Hermione breathed. "We need to find out who is sending these letters."

"You mean its not-"

"Of course it's not the actual person Ron! Someone is just messing with us." It sounded to him like she was just trying to convince herself. Personally he didn't think that it was impossible.

"But first we have to figure out how we are going to get Snape's blood." Hermione said.

"Why the bloody hell do we need Snape's blood!" Ron looked horrified. They quickly proceeded to fill him in.

"Weaselbee?" Draco came in.

"You're late." Hermione gave him a cold look.

"Snape cornered me." He looked annoyed. "What are we doing?"

"Getting Snape's blood." Ginny said simply. Draco nodded,

"Right. And why is Weasley here?"

"He got a letter too." Harry said. Draco looked aghast.

"Another one?" He dragged a hand down his face and sighed. "We're going to be very busy aren't we?"

"Why do we need Snape's blood?" asked Ron.

"Because we need to make sure he and Harry are actually related!" Hermione shrieked.

"Okay, okay. I have an idea." Ginny said before Ron and Hermione could really get into it.

"What is it?" Harry asked.

"We have to brew a potion in class that will knock everyone out, including Snape. And then one of us who isn't in the class, like me for example, will come in and get some of his blood." Ginny said.

"So we brew it in class instead of doing whatever we were supposed to?" Harry asked. Ginny nodded, "And then I'll come in and take some of Snape's blood."

"Where are we going to get the ingredients for the knockout potion?" Draco asked.

"You can do it." said Ginny.

"Why me?"

"You're with him all the time aren't you? We'll cause a distraction when you're with him and then you get the stuff while he's dealing with us."

"Brilliant." Harry murmured. Ginny grinned a little.

"You guys brew it during potions and bing bang boom. Perfect." Ginny's smile grew.

"But first we need to brew the paternity potion." Hermione said.

"It's really easy, I can do it tomorrow, I'll just smuggle the ingredients out of class." The potion was rather simple, Harry just hoped Snape wouldn't get suspicious.

"Okay." Hermione sighed. "At least we have a plan."

"I can't believe we're going to get a teacher's blood." Draco muttered darkly.

"Never know what you'll have to do at Hogwarts." Harry sighed.

Snape

The bloody boy was going to die before his 17th birthday. Because he wouldn't even pretend to try. Snape buried his head in his hands. Everything was getting more and more complicated by the second. The letter was still missing, he hadn't made the paternity potion yet, and Draco was going to die and then he was going to die because he had made the unbreakable vow. Great. This was way too complicated for its own good.

"Why am I even in this mess?" he wondered aloud. "Why?"

"Mess Severus?" Snape fell out of the chair he was reclining in but tried to recover quickly. It was Albus, the old bat sneaking up on him again.

"Nothing that concerns you." he said quickly.

"Ah. Alright then. I was simply wondering how Draco was doing." Albus peered at Snape over his half moon glasses.

"Not very well." Snape said testily.

"I was afraid this would happen. You should consider telling the boy Severus."

"Telling him?"

"Yes. And now I shall take my leave." Albus waved and within moments he was gone.

"Wait! But-" Why did he always have to leave so suddenly without answering the questions? He just had Snape even more confused now.
