Chapter 11
Hermione
She was nervous to say the least. Today they were going to knock out a teacher and take his blood. She would never have thought in all her years that she would do something like this willingly.
"You okay?" Draco asked her as they entered potions. Hermione gave what she hoped was a convincing nod. Her stomach was in knots of intense worry and she felt like she was going to throw up her breakfast. Harry had brewed the paternity potion yesterday and the ingredients for the knockout potion felt heavy in her pockets. Yesterday had been well… a bit of a disaster to be perfectly honest.
"He's right there Draco! Go, hurry!" Ginny hissed pushing him towards Snape. Draco awkwardly asked Snape something that none of them could hear and they went into his office together.
"Wait what's the plan again?" Ron had asked.
"Oh honestly Ron, could you be any more stupid!" Hermione said. Ron opened his mouth to fire back a response but Harry said,
"We're going to flood the corridor with milk and you are going to get carried away on the milk and we are going to try and rescue you very loudly."
"This is so stupid." muttered Ginny.
"I think its an excellent idea!" Hermione said hotly.
"We need to hurry!" Harry insisted.
"Right." Hermione pointed her wand around the corner and murmured the incantation. Milk spurted out of her wand and ran along the corridor.
"That's not enough." Harry said.
"Well then help me!" Hermione said irritably. Harry pointed his wand along with hers and slowly the corridor filled with milk. Milk trickled down to where they were standing and pretty soon their socks were soaked.
"I always hated milk." Ginny looked annoyed.
"Ron go!" Harry pushed Ron out into the stream of milk and he laid down just like they had planned. Ron floated away in a rather awkward position and Ginny whispered loudly,
"Thrash around you dumbo!" Ron began to thrash in the stream of milk and sputtered loudly.
"Oh no! Ron!" Hermione said. Even she realized she sounded like an idiot.
"Ron!" Harry yelled, sounding more normal. The three of them did their best to wade their way towards a panicked Ron.
"Help!" he said. "I'm drowning in milk!" If this had been any other situation Hermione would have laughed.
"Splash more!" Harry said when no one left Snape's office. They began to do a sort of jump towards Ron, making as much noise as humanly possible. Finally Snape's door swung open with a "Bloody hell" and the milk swirled into his office. Snape looked livid but when he saw the four of them his anger turned to exasperation. What was absolutely not part of the plan was for him to slip into the milk along with Ron.
"Get the stuff." Harry mouthed at Draco. Draco looked a bit horrified but did as he was told. Ginny looked disgusted at the milk soaking her up to her waist. Snape emerged, sputtering and stood up, soaking wet. The three of them didn't move, waiting to see what he would do.
"Is nobody gonna help me!" Came Ron's voice. She'd forgotten about him. Snape performed a vanishing charm on the milk but nothing happened. Ginny had charmed it so that the milk would only vanish for Harry. Snape looked confused,
"What the-" Hermione tensed, there was something touching her ankle. A hand. She screamed as the hand pulled her down into the stream of flowing milk, Harry went along with her. The last thing Hermione saw was Ginny's horrified face as she and Harry went down. She struggled against the hand but it kept a firm grip and dragged her and Harry out into the milk free corridor. She, Harry, and Draco emerged gasping for air.
"That wasn't part of the plan you moron." Harry coughed.
"Sorry, I have a feeling he's gonna be there for a while." Draco had the grace to look ashamed.
"You scared me half to death." Hermione muttered.
"Sorry." he repeated.
"Ginny still there?" Harry asked. Hermione nodded.
"Worried Potter?" Draco asked, raising an eyebrow.
"She can take care of herself." Harry said. "Ron on the other hand…"
"Did you get the stuff?" Hermione asked Draco. He nodded.
"I put a charm to keep it dry while I… swam." Harry snorted.
"Let's go!" Hermione told them.
"Should we check on…" Harry trailed off as they heard Snape cursing and what sounded like Ginny laughing.
"You guys are gonna be down at least 50 points." Draco said.
"Oh shut it." Harry said.
"I think it's best we don't." said Hermione as "Shut your mouth you insolent girl and help me!" and Ginny's laughter got louder.
Hermione jolted at the memory and did her best to not think about Snape floating down the milk river. Snape was in a very foul mood and he kept shooting their table nasty looks. Ron was in the infirmary from flooded lungs or something or other. And Harry was doing his best to not look at Snape.
"Do it now." Hermione said in a very soft voice as she nodded at Draco. Harry gave a small nod as he slipped the ingredients in the current potion she was brewing. Hermione braced herself for the smoke that began to flood the room as Harry stirred clockwise three times. Snape looked up from his desk as he noticed the smoke, but within seconds he slumped, knocked out.
Ginny
She could feel her heartbeat in her ears as she ditched transfiguration in favor of stealing Snape's blood. She waited for a couple minutes before entering the potions classroom. Everyone was knocked out, including Harry, Draco, and Hermione. She was pretty sure Snape loathed her now, as yesterday she had laughed as he floated down the milk river and tried to save Ron from drowning. She'd mainly tried to distract him from the fact that Draco had not so stealthily grabbed Harry and Hermione and took them down the milk river. Milk river? God what was happening to her.
With a deep breath she pushed open the door to the potions classroom. Everyone was sleeping soundly, in all sorts of odd positions. Quickly, she shut the door behind her and went over to where Snape was slumped at his desk and she reminded herself that he wouldn't wake for a while. Hopefully. Praying that no one woke up, she took out a little knife, clean of course, and took it to Snape's arm. Taking a deep breath she pressed until a little blood was drawn. She grabbed the small vial from her robes and let the blood drop in. She murmured a simple healing charm on his arm and closed the vial. Ginny knew that she could probably get expelled for this, but if it helped Harry… Taking one last look at all the sleeping students she fled the room. That night she nervously waited in the common room for everyone. Where were they? They were at least half an hour late. The portrait opened and thankfully Harry and Hermione entered.
"What took you so long?" she hissed, yanking them over to a table in the corner.
"I think I made it a little too strong." Harry said, rubbing his eyes.
"No kidding." Hermione muttered. "Did you get the ingredients?" She looked at Ginny.
"Yeah. Where's Ron? I thought he'd been released from the infirmary."
"With Pansy." said Hermione rolling her eyes.
"Again? God."
"I think I'm going to go to bed." Harry said sleepily. He was so adorable, his glasses a little lopsided and his hair ruffled.
Hermione nodded. "Goodnight."
"Night." Harry waved to them and went to his dormitory. Ginny couldn't stop the little sigh that escaped her. Hermione laughed.
"What?" Ginny asked hotly.
"Have you guys kissed yet?" she asked.
"No." Ginny said a little sadly.
"Glad you took my advice." Hermione said smugly.
"Come off it." Ginny muttered, smiling to herself.
Harry
He was going to be traumatized for life almost certainly. First he had had to watch Snape get washed away on a milk river, which was something no one should ever have to watch in his opinion. And now he was stirring this paternity potion to make sure he and Snape were actually related. It wasn't like it changed anything though.
"Harry, make sure you stir it two more times." Hermione said, looking up from her potions book. They were currently in Myrtle's bathroom, it brought back memories of second year and polyjuice potion.
Harry nodded and tried to ignore the twisting in his stomach. He really wished that he had never found out why Snape was acting so weird.
"Potter." Draco nodded at him as he entered the bathroom. Harry nodded back as the twisting got worse.
"You look like hell." Draco said, looking at him. Harry rolled his eyes.
"You would too if Snape was your dad." He shuddered. He still couldn't believe it.
"Snape is my godfather." Draco shrugged. "He's not that bad."
"Well he doesn't hate you." Harry snapped.
"Guess not." Draco said.
"I have detention for a month!" Ginny yelled as she stormed into the bathroom.
"Snape?" Hermione asked.
"Who else? And all because I was being immature the other day or whatever." She rolled her eyes. "He's so unfair."
"How many points did he take from you guys?" Draco asked.
"He took 30 from me." said Ginny.
"20 from me." Harry said.
"10." Hermione said.
"I was right!" Draco said delightedly.
"About what?" Ginny asked as she set down her bag and walked over to Harry.
"He thought we were going to get at least 50 points taken from us." Hermione looked annoyed.
"Well duh. He hates us twice as much now. Oh sorry Harry." Ginny said.
"It's fine. I hate him too." Harry said.
"The potion should be ready now. You have the blood Ginny?" Hermione asked. Ginny took out the little vial proudly. Hermione handed Harry a knife. He held his hand over the cauldron and pressed the knife to his palm. The blood dripped out and into the potion and Ginny took his hand gently to heal it. Ginny then gave Hermione the vial with Snape's blood and she poured it in. They all held their breath in anticipation, even though they already knew what color it was going to be. Pink meant you were related, blue meant not. Harry thought he may have fainted in relief if it turned blue. But it didn't, within seconds the potion turned pink and Harry resisted the urge to flip over the cauldron.
"Well I guess that confirms it." Hermione said, she looked at him, waiting to see how he would react.
"Guess it does." he muttered. Sometimes he bloody hated his life.
"It's not so bad." Draco said quietly. "We're like brothers now. Or something or other. Cousins?" Harry laughed a little. "Yeah."
Snape
He really needed to tell the boy before he found out. If there was one thing he'd learned about Harry Potter over the years it was that he never left a mystery unsolved. And the mystery about the greasy dungeon bat turning soft would sure be a big one. He also suspected that Albus knew about… the Potter thing. He had said
"You should consider telling the boy Severus." Which was true he supposed. He still needed to make the paternity potion, and figure out where the damn letter had gone. And where it had come from in the first place.
"Lily why must you always come back to haunt me?" He groaned to himself.
