A/N Oh my gosh guys guess what! We're almost at 10,000 views! AHHHHHHHH. I never dreamed so many people would want to read my stuff. So I changed the summary. Again. I know I know. XD. But I think if I change it up every few weeks more people will read it. Or not. I don't really know. Anywayyyyy. This chapter was pretty fun to write. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And we haven't heard from Ginny in a while but we definitely will in the next chapter.
Onward.
Oh and I almost forgot to mention. Thanks for reading and please review!
Chapter 15
Harry
He was doing his best to get some sleep, on the top bunk, while music from a nearby car was being blasted outside. If Harry had to guess he would say they were somewhere in Muggle London. Why in the world Snape owned a dusty old flat in Muggle London was a mystery to him.
"Bloody hell what is that horrific noise! And where the hell are we anyway!" Draco leaped out of the bottom bunk and went over to the window.
"It's called music." Harry crossed his arms and continued to stare at the ceiling. He could not believe he was stuck in a flat with Draco and Snape for two weeks. Honestly they would all be lucky to make it back to Hogwarts alive.
"That is not music." Draco said in disgust. "And are we...In MUGGLE LONDON!" His voice rose dramatically and Harry shushed him. "I swear, are you trying to wake up Snape?"
"Oh please, he'll sleep through anything. Even that." he said, referencing the music coming from the car outside.
"I think it's nice." Harry said, just because he knew that it would annoy Draco further.
"Nice. Nice. Of course you think it's nice. I can't believe we're in Muggle London."
"Wait a second… You've never been to Muggle London have you?" Well at least he wouldn't miss the opportunity to see Draco embarrass himself in the muggle world. That was if they were allowed to go outside into the muggle world…
"Course not Potter!" Draco threw himself back onto the bottom bunk.
"I'm never going to be able to go to sleep. He didn't even have the decency to cast a silencio." Draco muttered.
Harry just sighed and mentally begged Draco to shut up.
"Are you still awake?" Draco asked. Harry said nothing, maybe he could pretend he was still asleep.
"I know you're awake." Harry remained silent. Draco tapped on the bottom of his bunk to try and wake Harry up.
"Oh my God, what do you want?" Harry demanded.
"I knew you were awake."
"What do you want?"
"Well I shouldn't have to be the only one to suffer through this music." Draco drawled.
"You're such a git."
"I know."
The next morning both boys stumbled out of their room, bleary eyed. They had finally gotten to sleep some two hours later when the car had driven away. Harry hadn't particularly wanted to leave his room but Draco had dragged him out with him. He still couldn't believe he was stuck with Snape and Draco for TWO WEEKS. What on earth was Dumbledore thinking. Snape was already at the table in the small kitchen and Harry swallowed thickly.
"Morning." Draco said to him and sat down. Harry followed suit. He pushed his glasses up his nose a little and studied the table and all of its little cracks.
"Where are we, sir?" Draco asked curiously.
"Muggle London." Snape said flatly.
"Oh...is there anything to eat?" Snape shot Draco a dirty look.
"What do you think?" he snapped.
"So that would be a no." Draco sighed dramatically. And Harry held back a grin.
"We're going to the market in a few minutes." Snape said.
"The market! Like the muggle market! And we!" Draco looked a mix of horrified and excited.
"Yes. And I'm certainly not going to leave you two alone here. Go get dressed." He glared at them and Harry shot up. Draco got up slowly.
"I can't believe we're going to a muggle market." Draco said, slipping into his robes.
"What are you doing?" Harry demanded.
"Getting dressed? You certainly didn't think I was going to go naked?"
"You can't wear robes to a muggle market!" Harry rolled his eyes.
"Oh yeah…" Harry threw on his Weasley sweater and a pair of Dudley's old jeans. He hurriedly stuffed his feet into his trainers.
"What are those!" Draco pointed at his shoes.
"Shoes, you know what those are right?"
"Shut it Potter. Why do they look like that?" He bent to examine his shoes and Harry resisted the desire to kick him in the nose.
"Look like what? They're just normal shoes."
"What did you do to them? What did they ever do to deserve such treatment?" Now Harry was getting annoyed.
"They're in perfectly good condition." he snapped.
"They have holes!"
"Well at least they're clean! Come on." he muttered, opening the door.
"Don't your feet get cold?" Draco followed him out.
"No! That's what socks are for!"
"That is not-" Draco broke off abruptly when Snape entered the room. He raised an eyebrow at them.
"You two will wait outside the market for me." Snape said.
"Yes sir." Both of them said. They walked behind Snape as they left the flat and went out into the streets. Harry had only been to London a few times but at least he wasn't gawking like Draco. They weren't even in the nicer parts of London either. Once they were outside the market Snape told them to wait outside once more, and Harry and Draco were left there.
"The purpose of socks isn't to keep your feet warm from the holes in your shoes." Draco said after a moment. He was still hung up on this?
"Why do you care? And yes it is." He crossed his arms.
"I don't, it's just... why don't you buy new shoes?" He shrugged and looked around. He spotted a box a few feet away and went over to it. He peeked inside.
"What are you doing?" Draco came over to see what he was looking at. Inside, was a little puppy, with big black and brown spots and huge black eyes. Draco gasped as Harry picked it up gently.
"What are you doing with that little beast?" he demanded.
"Relax, it's just a puppy. Hi little guy, you lost?" He checked for a collar. Nothing. It was shivering and gave a soft whining sound. Harry pulled it closer to him. Draco was looking at him curiously.
"What?"
"Nothing, but uh, you know we can't keep it or anything."
"I know." The puppy licked his face and he grinned.
"Don't do that!" Draco's eyes widened.
"I'm not doing anything!" He insisted.
"Now it likes you and in a few minutes we're gonna leave it right here. In the box."
The puppy was warm against his chest and a comforting sort of warmth he had never experienced was spreading through him.
"It's alright, at least we get to spend a few minutes together. You wanna pet it?" he asked as the puppy snuggled closer. Draco edged closer cautiously and stuck his hand out stiffly.
"That's not how you pet a dog."
"Well I've never pet one."
"How could you have never pet a dog?"
"I dunno, so how do I pet one?"
"Just touch it, you know." Sometimes Draco could be so clueless. Just then Snape appeared and shoved a bag of dog food into Draco's arms.
Snape
He hadn't meant to see that. He hadn't wanted to see that. He was standing in line, glaring at anyone who so much as looked at him, when he saw Harry through the window. Arms crossed, moodily staring in the other direction. Snape watched as he walked a little ways and bent down. Moments later he straightened with a little puppy in his arms. The puppy was shivering and he pulled it closer. He looked so much like Lily in that moment that it physically hurt. Draco went over too and was saying something. Probably that he shouldn't get attached or something or other. Cursing himself he got out of line and bought a bag of dog food. He was too soft for his own damn good. Or not soft enough, Lily huffed in his head.
Harry
His eyes widened in shock as Snape shoved a bag of dog food into Draco's arms and motioned for them to follow him. Draco's mouth had fallen comically open and Harry gave him a smug look. Bagel, that's what he had decided to call him, licked his face joyously. His grinned widened and he pulled Bagel in a little tighter. He didn't care why Snape had decided to let him keep the dog, he was just glad he didn't have to leave him in that box.
After they'd gotten back to Snape's flat, he told Harry to go take the dog for a walk and Draco to go with him to make sure he didn't die. Still grinning he took a leash from Snape and left with Bagel on the leash.
"I can't believe...how?!" Draco demanded as they walked outside to let Bagel use the bathroom.
"I didn't even do anything." Harry said.
"I guess this is proof." Draco said, looking away as Bagel lifted his leg.
"Of what?"
"He doesn't hate you."
His throat constricted momentarily. "Yeah... guess not."
"So what are you going to call it?" Draco asked, leading the way back to the flat.
"Bagel."
"BAGEL? Like the food?" Draco looked at him incredulously.
"Mhmmm. Bagel the beagle."
Draco burst out laughing. "Hi Bagel." He looked down as he ran around Draco's ankles.
"I like it." he said finally. When they got back inside, there were muffins littering the counter. Bagel licked his ankle and he held back a laugh. He'd always wanted a dog.
Snape
He could not believe he had let Harry keep the dog. And of course the boy named it Bagel.
"What are you going to name it?" Snape asked while they were eating breakfast. Harry looked up from his muffin abruptly, surprised at being addressed.
"Bagel." he said after a moment.
"The Beagle." Draco said after him. Snape had to resist the urge to groan. Bagel the Beagle? So he settled for a nod of approval. After breakfast he said,
"I have some things I need to attend to. Lupin will be coming to watch you two."
Harry looked annoyed, but he nodded.
"Watch us?" Draco said with wide eyes. "We're not five." Snape glared at him.
"Yes sir." Draco rolled his eyes.
"Make sure it doesn't pee in the house." He told Harry. The boy nodded and looked down at the dog, who wagged its tail.
"You hear that Bagel?" he said softly. Snape pretended not to hear. He was too much like Lily. A couple minutes later the wolf arrived, looking uneasy.
"Severus." he said with a nod.
"Lupin. I'll be back in a couple hours." he looked back at the two boys, both crouched on the floor with the dog. Sighing he left, shutting the door behind him.
Draco
"Hello boys." Lupin said.
"Hi." Harry said.
"Hey." Draco looked back at Bagel, chasing his tail playfully.
"Who's that?" Lupin asked crouching down beside them.
""Bagel." Draco said.
"Ah." Were they really going to have to endure hours of this? And what the hell were they supposed to do for two weeks in a muggle flat? They didn't have any homework, and the flat looked like it hadn't been lived in in ages. Lupin went to go sit at the table and Draco and Harry looked at each other. What exactly were they supposed to do? Soon Bagel got tired and plopped down on the ground. Sighing Draco examined his nails. This was terribly boring. A ring went through the house and everyone shot to their feet. Lupin drew his wand and Harry rolled his eyes.
"It's just the phone. Didn't know Snape had one."
"A phone?" Lupin asked.
"Yeah, you know where you-nevermind. Want me to answer it?" Harry waited for an answer.
"What will happen if you do?" Lupin looked worried.
"Ugh, nothing? I'll get to hear whoever is calling."
Lupin nodded after a moment and Harry left the room.
"Hello? Oh hey Hermione." Draco's ears perked up and he moved to the room that Harry was in. His ear was pressed to some banana shaped device.
"How'd you get this number?"
"Oh, right."
"Yeah Draco's safe. Wanna talk to him? Alright, alright." Harry was laughing.
"Can I talk to her?" Draco asked.
"Draco wants to talk to you. You have to go? Are you sure? Well call again later okay? Bye." He put the phone down.
"She had to go." Harry explained.
"Oh."
"But she's going to call again later." He shrugged, then handed Draco a slip of paper with a line of numbers.
"What's this?"
"Her number. You just dial it and then she'll pick up or you leave a message."
"If I push these numbers I'll hear her voice?"
"Ugh, probably."
"Wow." Harry rolled his eyes.
"What?" Draco snapped.
"Nothing."
"You just-"
A song started playing from the other room and both boys jumped.
"What is that!" Draco demanded.
"Music." Harry grinned as Bagel came into the room and jumped on him.
"I found this muggle thing! I think it's a radio." Came Lupin's voice. They went back to the kitchen to find Lupin fiddling with a box with circles.
Hey Jude don't let me down
"Who's Jude?" Draco asked, staring at the box the "music" was coming from.
"It's just a song." Harry said as he picked up Bagel.
That didn't answer his question. "But who's Jude?"
"The person in the song." BUT WHO WAS JUDE?
Then you can start to make it better. Muggle music was so weird.
"I think Severus would appreciate it if we cleaned up a little." Lupin said.
"Ugh, I guess." Harry shrugged and looked at Draco. He had never cleaned anything in his life unless it was with magic but how hard could it be?
"Sure." It wasn't like they had anything else to do anyway. And he'd be damned if he was reduced to reading his textbooks. Lupin turned the music up louder and Bagel ran in joyous circles. Lupin threw Harry a broom that he caught.
"What are you going to do with that?" How was flying going to get cleaning done?
"Sweep." Harry brushed Draco's foot playfully.
"Hey!" he leaped back laughing. For the next hour Harry taught Draco how to sweep. Which was actually quite fun, he didn't understand why wizards didn't clean more often.
Hermione
She had arrived home to an empty house. Stumbling out of the fireplace she called out,
"Mum! Dad!" Silence answered her. She sighed. They were probably still at work. She still couldn't quite believe that the castle had been moments away from being attacked. By death eaters they had said. She dragged her trunk up to her room and looked at her clock. Her parents should be home soon. Flinging herself into her bed she stared at the ceiling. Had Draco and Harry gotten out okay?
"I can't believe he had seven cavities!"
"Mum dad I'm home!" She ran down the stairs. Her mum screamed when she saw her, then put a hand to her chest.
"Hermione, darling. What are you doing here? Why aren't you at school?" Her mother asked concernedly.
"Oh, uh." Should she lie? Probably. "Repairs." Repairs? She really was a terrible liar.
"Repairs? Hello Hermione." Her dad said. He was over at the counter opening some mail.
"Uh huh."
"Well we should go out to dinner than to celebrate!" Her mum smiled at her.
To celebrate what? "Sure." She tried to smile.
A few minutes later they were in the car and she stared out the window, trying to ignore the twisting in her gut.
"Hermione?"
"Oh, sorry what did you say?"
"How long are you going to be home?" Her dad asked, glancing back at her.
"Two weeks."
"Want me to start teaching you how to drive? Since we never got around to it this summer."
It wasn't like she had anything else to do.
"Okay, that sounds good."
"I bet you'll be a natural." Her mum said.
Mmmm she wouldn't bet on that.
The next morning her mum dragged her to the market to buy biscuit ingredients. Shivering in the fall air she pulled her jacket around her. Her parents were certainly taking advantage of the time that she was at home. Sighing, she followed her mum around the market. Then she spotted him. Professor Snape. Sucking in her breath she made up an excuse about needing tampons to her mum and then followed him. He stood in line, arms full of groceries, watching something, no someone, out the window. She stood on tiptoe, trying to see who it was he was watching. She gasped and several people turned to look at her. Thank goodness Snape ignored her. Harry was out the window holding a little Beagle puppy. Was he with Snape? She resisted the urge to gasp very loudly again. Draco was now in the window view too. Were both of them with Professor Snape?
That must mean they were in London too...Was their phone number in the phone book? Did they even have a phone? Her mind was racing furiously and she had barely moved in time when the professor turned around furiously. For a second she was sure he was going to go outside and yell at the two boys, but instead he went down another aisle. Deciding she was in too deep to back out now, she crept behind him. Watching. He grabbed a bag of dog food and a leash. Putting a hand to her mouth she realized he was going to let Harry keep the stray dog. Tears came to her eyes and she blinked rapidly. This was certainly an act of unexpected kindness, perhaps the professor wasn't as hard hearted as they all thought.
"Hermione? Did you get your tampons?" Her mother asked from behind her.
"What? Oh yeah." She seized a box from the shelf next to her.
"Ready?"
"Yep." Putting her head down she silently prayed Harry, Draco, or Snape wouldn't see her. Wait. Why didn't she want them to see her? She should go say hi. Agh. Perhaps for now it was best to just leave the three guys alone for now.
Her parents were both at work and she was sitting in the living room with the phone book on her lap. Snape's phone number was in it. She bit her lip, should she call the number? She was being ridiculous. She grabbed the phone from the coffee table and dialed the number. It rang four times before someone picked up.
"Hello?"
"Harry?"
"Oh hey Hermione. How'd you get this number?"
"The phone book Harry."
"Oh, right." She should ask about Draco. Taking a deep breath she said,
"Is Draco okay?"
"Yeah he's safe. Wanna talk to him?" Yes.
"No, no, no. It's fine. Really fine. Just glad he's safe. Yep." Oh God, why was she such an idiot?
"Alright, alright." Harry was laughing. Hermione rolled her eyes.
"Draco wants to talk to you." he said after a moment.
"I have to go." she said abruptly. She should just talk to him, but one of the last times she had seen him was when they were in that toilet stall… How could she just act like everything was normal after that?
"...Bye." She realized that she hadn't been paying attention to a word that Harry was saying. She set the phone down with a click. Well that hadn't gone as planned at all.
Snape
That night, he was sitting at the kitchen table when Harry came out of his room and sat down. His eyes focused on his lap he began to speak,
"I uh. I just wanted to say thanks. For you know, letting me keep Bagel." The boy glanced up uneasily, waiting for his reaction.
"Of course." When he spoke his voice was unexpectedly hoarse. Harry gave him a little smile and left. Perhaps things wouldn't turn out so bad after all.
A/N It's me again. I just wanted to address some stuff that happened in this chapter. Like BAGEL THE BEAGLE! Hehehe. I'm sorry I just love dogs so much. Bagel was based off this stuffed animal I had as a kid that I recently got rid of. In case you wanted to know. Some stuff in this chapter probably seems really random, like the shoes thing and the driving lessons. But it's not. I swear. Will be addressed in next chapter! Oh and I'm sorry if I gave you wip lash with all the times I changed POVs. Whoops. And I think that was all. I probably forgot something but I'm sure I'll remember it next week. Thanks for reading!
