Chap 2: Through His Eyes

Jacob was in the sitting room miserably looking out of the window when he heard his pack panicking outside. He sat up and stuck his head out of the window and saw them off to the side back in the trees.

"What's wrong?"-he called and they all stopped to look at him then each other. "Well!"-he demanded impatiently. The weight of his imprint kept him from even going outside to talk to his freaking pack. He wanted to rip the wall out of the way and stomp over to them but he couldn't. He'd be glad when he got used to being imprinted and wouldn't be as much of a slave to Nessie. He was an alpha but he couldn't even go outside to lead his pack.

Quil, Seth and Embry talked amongst each other before Seth ran over from where they were by the tree line. At his panicked face, Jacob swallowed and looked around quickly, realizing Leah was missing. Dread filled him.

"It's Leah Jacob she's gone!"-Seth shouted with tears in his eyes. Jacob growled and his muscles tensed. His mind started turning and he figured she'd just left and gone back to Sam's pack. That thought made him growl. It was highly unlikely but the thought infuriated him. Leah would never go back to Sam's pack. She barely tolerated Jacob's.

It was rough dealing with Leah at times but eventually she softened having gotten away from Sam and Emily shoving their life in her face or being stuck in Sam's head. It was when Leah terrified a human Bella for messing with him that finally forced those two to talk. Jacob wasn't mad at her when Edward complained to him about it. If anything, he was shocked and flattered that she defended him and was so angry. Everyone thought he was gullible or a homewrecker, so no one had ever stuck up for him when it came to Bella. Not even his father. Before Jacob had phased, Billy told him to leave her alone and that he wasn't allowed to be with her. He was a future chief and looked foolish being as thirsty as he was running behind the pale girl who already had a boyfriend.

He and Leah had a brief conversation that day, but it was the first time she talked about how she felt instead of yelling at everyone.

"Leah did you cuss at Bella and scare her?"-Jacob asked, coming to stand over her as she sat under a tree. She shrugged uncaring, not even bothering to look at him. He stood there with his arms crossed.

"Am I supposed to be scared almighty alpha?"-she sassed. He rolled his eyes.

"You can't just barge into a house full of leeches like that. They could've killed you."-he said thoughtfully, looking to the sky. He knew Leah hated them even more than he did and that the feeling was mutual except for Jasper, Carlisle and Esme. So if pushed, he worried they wouldn't hesitate to kill or seriously injure her.

"So."-she shrugged and his head snapped in her direction.

"What do you mean so?"-he asked incredulously. His heart started pounding in his chest and his throat went dry.

"I don't care if I die. It'd be better than living like this."-she said, waving her hand over her body and around the Cullen grounds.

"Don't say that!"-Jacob breathed, shaking his head. He didn't want her to feel that way. They might have their differences, but he didn't want Leah to die. Saving her from the newborn vampire proved that. His heart skipped a beat and he started to panic.

"But it's true. It's how I feel. What do I have to live for? Other than my family who would even care if I die?"-she exclaimed. She wasn't bitter she was just being honest with how she felt.

"I would! Leah-"-he started to shout but she kept going.

"Bella throwing Edward in your face and being selfish by still begging you to stay in her life and now expecting you to protect her is..." she shook her head and laughed humorlessly. "I tell her how she's hurting you and she cries to Edward to get you to let me have it. She doesn't listen to what I say or even apologize to you. The first thing she does is run to Edward. Edward couldn't care less about how this whole thing is making you feel as long as his precious Bella gets what she wants. They're your Emily and Sam." he started to protest but she put her hand up. "I see it Jacob, even if you don't. I just wish somebody would've seen how much I was hurting, am hurting and stand up for me for a change instead of always telling me I'm a bitch or to get over it." Jacob frowned and sat next to her. "Don't worry I'm not trying to kill myself but the fact is the only escape I have from Sam, Emily and being a wolf and stuck going nowhere is death."-she said angrily, wiping away tears.

Jacob didn't know what to say. He never thought of his situation like that but he also didn't agree…to an extent. But what worried him most was that Leah was sort of right about his entanglement but more shockingly, hers. No one ever looked at her situation from her point of view. Now he is.

"You escaped Sam when you joined my pack."-he said with a small smile. Leah wiped away more tears and chuckled.

"Yeah and look at what I've gained."-she said, throwing her hands out around her. Jacob laughed.

"Thanks Leah."-Jacob said sincerely, still not knowing what to say in response to Leah's death wish. She nodded without looking at him.

"Jacob you're not going to like what I'm about to say."-she started and he frowned with a weary expression.

"Ok…"-he said cautiously. She licked her lips and turned to him.

"Jacob, unlike me you have a choice and you're choosing wrong. You need to let Sam's pack kill that thing inside Bella and banish the Cullens."-She said.

"What no! I won't let Sam-" -he started angrily.

"It's not about Sam, it's about you. If you don't end this and sever all ties with Bella you'll regret it. Do something that I should've done months ago. Let the love of your life go. If you don't you'll turn into me."-she said before getting up, phasing and running off into the woods.

Ever since that conversation Leah was more respectful of Jacob's position and his pack while Jacob was more compassionate and considerate of her feelings. It's the reason why he never has Leah patrol unless she wants to and let's her go off when she feels like it. But, she always has to let him know first, she can't leave the woods surrounding the Cullens and she has to check in periodically.

Unbeknownst to Leah, when Jacob wasn't phased he would follow her, making sure she was ok and wasn't going to do anything stupid. After he imprinted he made sure that one of the other guys trailed her since he couldn't. That's how Quil met up with her earlier. He'd seen her drifting. Jacob never told them why he was worried about her but they could all see he was worried and concerned for Leah which made them concerned as well. Jacob felt responsible for Leah and vice versa. He was sensitive when it came to her and she him. Neither of them realized it but they'd formed a bond over the last five months and it's that very bond that will change things forever.

So, Leah being gone worried Jacob greatly. He started breathing heavily as his mind began to whirl with possibilities. Leah has been better, seemed better, but that didn't mean she felt better or had a better grasp on life. She'd told Jacob she wasn't suicidal but he wasn't taking any chances. He knew she wasn't going to rejoin Sam's pack so in his mind that meant she was off doing something deadly or she was running.

"Seth, go check the northern part of the woods by the creek. Tell Embry to-"-Seth cut him off as he called out instructions.

"You don't understand she's not missing. Her scent went to the border. She went over the border Jake!"-Seth panicked.

Jacob's eyes widened and he burst through the small window.

"What do you mean her scent went over the border?"-he growled menacingly, slowing standing up with glass falling off him as he did.

Edward and Bella were off hunting, leaving Jacob to babysit Nessie. The Cullens filed onto the porch to be a part of the conversation or offer assistance if the wolves needed it. Jasper could taste Jacob's anger and worry it was so thick. Nessie ran off the steps over to a heaving, pissed off Jacob much to Jasper's dismay. She was scared and she wanted to be with him and get him to stop acting like he was. She'd never seen him like this but she knew he wouldn't hurt her so she had no fear in approaching him. Rosalie called her back but she kept going. With her small hand she grabbed Jacob's, showing him how he looked to her and asked him to come back into the house.

Jacob snatched his hand away and turned around growling menacingly at her. She slowly backed away as Jacob stalked towards her. For the first time ever she was unsure but most importantly afraid of Jacob.

"Keep your hands off me. I would've been out here with my pack, with Leah, if it wasn't for you in the first place."-he said in a terrifyingly deep voice. His body began to shake.

Rosalie jumped off the porch and swooped Nessie into her arms, hissing at Jacob. Emmett jumped in front of Jacob who couldn't care less about his presence.

"Jake!"-Embry called. At that Jacob turned back around to face his pack and rushed over to them.

"When did she go missing?"-he growled. The pack backed away and averted their eyes from the pissed alpha.

"Last time I saw her was around three hours ago."-Quil said. Jacob just stood there looking at the pack for a brief moment, chest heaving at what Sam and his pack could be doing to Leah right now.

"Let's go."-he growled and the pack took off after Jacob and Seth who had phased and were bolting towards the border.

L+L=L+L=L+L=L+L+L

Leah and Sam had talked for hours, catching up, reminiscing, careful to avoid intimate moments they shared not long ago. They were laughing before it settled into a thoughtful silence.

"So, what's going to happen now?"-Leah asked. She was talking about the divide amongst the wolves, the Cullens and the spawn. He sighed.

"I don't know. The Cullens can't stay here and that half mini leech can hide in plain sight during the day but eat humans at night. She's dangerous. The Cullens broke the treaty so we have every right to kill them but we can't kill or harm imprints. The only solution is to ban them from all of Washington. America!"-he'd thought about this over and over and this was the only solution. If Jacob wasn't imprinted, they would've just killed all the Cullens after Bella was turned. Kill them like their ancestors should've done centuries ago and they wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

Leah nodded.

"But if they go Jake goes."-she reminded him.

"Yeah I know. That's why both packs and the council need to talk and come to an agreement. I don't want him to leave and I don't want a war. Not with you."-Sam said solemnly. Safe to say the last few months were stressful for all. Nobody agreed with Jacob's actions while some didn't agree with Sam's, but others were apprehensive in going to war while others were itching for a fight. It was indeed a messy situation that became impossible once Jacob imprinted.

"Jacob is really the only one who can end this. He's the only one who can make a final decision."-Leah said worriedly. Seeing Jacob with his imprint, she knew he'd never choose La Push and its people or any of the packs over Nessie. The Cullens can't stay, Nessie can't be harmed, and Jacob won't leave.

"I know."-Sam said sympathetically. He felt bad for Jacob having no choice in imprinting on a halfling vampire of his wish-she-was-but-never-wanted-him-in-the-first-place ex.

"It's the Kobayashi Maru."-Leah sighed. Sam smiled, remembering Leah being a Star Trek geek. Even with something so serious she can't help herself.

"Then we'll just have to figure out a way to cheat."-Sam winked, nudging her before they both laughed.

"I better get back before he starts wondering where I am and get all bent out of shape thinking I'm either missing or plotting against his leech."-Leah grumbled, stretching as she stood. Sam stood with a soft smile on his face. He wanted to hug her but wasn't sure where they stood now. So, he extended his hand.

"It was great talking to you Leah. And it was really good seeing you again."-he offered. Leah rolled her eyes and slapped his hand away before giving him a hug. Sam closed his eyes and squeezed her tightly.

"Sure sure. You too Sam."-she gave him a squeeze before stepping back.

"Oh goodness you've got his scent all over you and now you're starting to talk like Jacob too."-Sam grumbled.

"Don't remind me."-Leah laughed as she walked backward. With one final wave to each other, she turned around and headed back for the border.

Sam watched as she walked, a weight lifted off his shoulders. He couldn't help the tears that fell from his eyes. He wiped them away only for more to fall. With a sigh, he sat back down on the bench and remembered back to when he first phased, the moment he imprinted and the moment he had to break up with Leah.

"Call me when you get in."-Leah mumbled with a smile against his lips.

"I always do."-he smiled back before continuing their kissing. The doorbell kept ringing before he realized Leah was pressed against it. Sue yanked the door open.

"Mom!"-Leah gasped. She was embarrassed from being caught and being interrupted by her mother.

"Goodbye Samuel."-Sue said pointing at the driveway.

"Mom."-Leah whined. Sue yanked her into the house.

"Yes Mrs. Clearwater. Goodnight Mrs. Clearwater. Mr. Clearwater."-Sam said through clenched teeth. Harry was sitting in his armchair glaring at him. Sam turned around and moved quickly up the driveway, anger building in him for no reason at all. They had a right to tell him to leave but it didn't matter he was pissed.

"Bye Sam. Don't forget to call!"-Leah yelled over her mother's shoulder. Sam ignored her and kept walking.

It was four hours later and Sam hadn't called Leah and she was worried.

"What do you think could have happened to him?"-she'd asked for the tenth time that hour.

"Leah I'm sure he's fine he probably just went off like he's been doing these last few weeks. He'll be home soon."-Sue grumbled. Leah was getting on her nerves. Leah plopped back down on the couch with her head on the armrest, staring intently at the phone.

Eventually Leah had to go to bed as ordered by her parents. Sam had been acting strange, nothing like his usual aggregable, respectful self. Sue wanted them to break up but Harry warned her that Leah would probably sneak around with him. This way they could keep an eye on him. Maybe it was just a phase.

It was when Linda and Joshua Uley at two in the morning called asking about Sam's whereabouts did the Clearwaters begin to worry.

Six weeks later and still no sign of Sam.

The night he left the Clearwaters Sam became so angry he began to shake uncontrollably and growl low in his chest. He was pissed off more than he'd ever been in his entire life and it was freaking him out. He started running as fast as he could, trying to outrun his anger. Something called to him, pulling him towards the woods so he took off straight for it. He ran for hours and when he finally stopped, he was even angrier.

"What's happening to me?"-he began to cry. He wrapped his arms around himself to try and keep still but it didn't work. He hugged his knees and rolled into a ball in the grass but that didn't work. He was shaking more, losing breath despite not running anymore and getting angrier.

"Please, please Taha Aki help me. Please."-he prayed, sobbing. He was all alone in the dark woods somewhere far away from La Push and Forks. His growls grew deadlier and his body began to ache and burn.

"Somebody help me."-he wheezed as his lungs seemed to not be able to take in air. He grabbed a tree to stabilize himself as he tried to run towards civilization for help but before he knew it, bones began to snap and shift.

"AHhhhhhh!"-he screamed at the top of his lungs. He was on his knees with his head thrown back and body arched as his bones quickly changed form.

"Ahhhhaooooo."-and before he knew it his screams became a howl.

Suddenly the pain, the shaking the snapping all stopped. He breathed quickly trying to regain himself and when he did…

"Oh my God what am I?"-He thought as he looked at what should've been a hand but was a giant paw.

He spun in a circle trying to see the rest of himself but he couldn't.

"No, nononononononono. What is happening to me."-he whined.

He ran around trying to find someone, anyone who could help him and make sense of what was happening, but he was in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night. He was all alone. He took off running for hours, trying to get away from himself again or to find help and while doing so he came upon a stream. He was thirsty, tired and terrified. On instinct he trotted over and began to lap it up.

When he stopped drinking the ripples in the water slowed and slowly his reflection began to form.

He was a huge black wolf.

He was exhausted and all he could do was whine at his reflection. He reached out to touch it but yanked it back when he saw his paw. He collapsed, curled into a ball, exhausted, and got some restless sleep.

For six weeks he was a wolf. His fear and ignorance prevented him from being able to or even knowing that he could change back. A couple of times he smelled the nastiest, sweetest aroma in his life. He'd growled and tracked it down wanting to kill whatever it was attached to. One day he finally caught up with a pale, pale woman with red eyes who had that smell. He growled at her and wanted to kill her but he ran away in horror at the thought of it. It happened at least three more times and each time he ran away. Once because they tried to kill him.

He made his way back to La Push woods a week ago and could see all the men out looking for him. He would whine wanting nothing more than to tell them he was right there but he literally couldn't. He tried to stay hidden but he was huge but he also missed Leah and was worried about what she would think if she could see him now. Every night he'd go up to her yard's edge that lined the woods and lie on his belly listening to her cry over him.

It was one night when Old Quil was in the Clearwater backyard waiting to go look for him again that things began to click. Old Quil was talking to Harry who'd just run in to go to the bathroom when he heard a noise, Sam coming to his spot to listen to Leah. When he shined his flashlight into the woods he screamed to high hell when he saw a huge black wolf.

Sam whirled around trying to figure out what was going on but saw nothing. He turned back around when Old Quil shined the light right at his face. They both stood still, looking at the other. Sam whined and lowered his head and took a step towards the yard. Old Quil squinted as a look of curiosity came upon his face.

When Harry burst outside with his shotgun Sam ran off. Old Quil ran over to lower the gun when he quickly realized why Sam had disappeared. He took Harry to Billy's and there he explained what he saw.

"Sam."-he concluded. Harry, Joshua and Billy were shocked and pissed off because that meant there were vampires.

"Cullens."-Billy ground out with a balled fist as he walked over to a wall and punched it.

"What's going on?"-a worried Jacob asked as he came downstairs.

"Nothing go back to bed."-Harry nodded. Jacob knew they were lying but went back anyway. Looking back at the other two men Billy gasped in horror when it hit him.

"Jacob is going to phase."-it dawned on him.

"Oh no Seth."-Harry gasped.

"Quil!"-Old Quil cried.

"Who knows how many boys are going to phase? The only thing I know is that as a Black, Jacob has no choice. We'll have to worry about this later. Right now we got to find Sam and help him any way possible."-Billy said to calm their fears. He put a comforting hand on a distraught Joshua's shoulder.

They left the house in search of Sam and didn't find him until three days later.

Thankfully Sam grew up on the legends, so they didn't have to go into every detail to explain to him what happened. Five hours later and Sam was finally able to phase back.

Eventually they let him back around people and Sam and Leah pretty much picked up where they left off but with Sam more on edge and having less time for her now that he had to learn all on his own, with only the book of legends to help, how to kill vampires and patrol the entire area. Once more boys started phasing Sam felt so much better. He wasn't alone anymore.

With more wolves he had more time for Leah so he went with her to meet up with her cousin so they could shop for outfits for a relative's vowel renewal.

"Over here Em!"-Leah called in the mall lobby. Sam looked up to see who she was talking to and it happened.

Imprinting.

He watched with a pounding heart as this woman walked towards them. He mumbled an excuse when he saw Leah's worried expression as she looked from a gawking Sam to a confused Emily. For what felt like years he waited to see her again and felt like he had no control over his life once again. Eventually he went to Harry and asked him about it. Harry hung his head as he explained imprinting.

"So I have to marry her?"-Sam squeaked, jumping up. "I love Leah Mr. Clearwater I don't want her cousin."-he cried, shaking. The council, who were there, scrambled away from him.

"Sam calm down you don't have to marry her. Not unless she wants you to."-Billy reassured him, and Sam stopped shaking.

"I don't?"-he breathed.

"It's completely up to the imprint what the wolf becomes to her. I'll go and explain everything to her. She's Leah's cousin so I highly doubt you'll have to worry about her making you her soulmate or anything like that."-Harry smiled.

"Thank you Mr. Clearwater."-Sam gushed as he scooped Harry into a tight hug.

"Uh Sam.."-Harry wheezed.

"Oh sorry."-Sam smiled apologetically. They laughed and Sam felt relieved.

Once Emily found out she promised Uncle Harry she would only be his friend, a cousin. Things were going good for a month or two until Emily started requesting more of Sam's time. He had to start lying to Leah about why he wasn't around, where he was going etc. Leah had caught them more than one time being too friendly. Harry had another stern conversation with Emily and she backed off completely, treating Sam like a cousin.

On the day of the vowel renewal, Sam escorted Leah and he looked devilishly handsome in his tux with his stature and well-defined muscles peeking through. More than once Emily was inappropriate with Sam much to Harry's disappointment. At the reception she monopolized all his time with dances and conversations, leaving Leah by herself since most everyone else was dancing.

"I wonder what our wedding will be like."-Emily mused absentmindedly while they danced.

"Emily..."-he warned, stiffening. He darted his eyes around to see if anyone heard.

"I mean if I had chosen you as a husband instead. You know just for fun."-she smiled. Having had enough, Leah marched up to them and pushed in to dance with him. Sam was glad she had but couldn't help the longing he felt for Emily as she pouted away to her table. She loved her cousin but she couldn't help but feel like Sam was cheating on her with Leah. If they were meant to be together he would've imprinted on her instead.

At the end of the night when everyone was leaving Emily pulled Sam aside.

"Sam, I know I said I just wanted to be friends, cousins since you're with Leah, but I can't help it. We can't just be friends we're meant to be more. Much more."-she said holding his hands.

"Emily no please. You promised."-Sam said with wide eyes. His heart was pounding and his wolf inside him was already beginning to bow to what was happening. Emily took a deep breath and looked him directly in the eyes.

"Samuel, I want you to love me and want to be with me." She held his gaze for a long moment before swallowing. "Our imprint will be one of marriage. I love you and I wouldn't be saying this if I didn't think deep down you didn't love me too."-she said before kissing him. Sam, thanks to the imprint, melted into the kiss and kissed her back, giving himself over. But Sam, the man not the wolf, began to cry while kissing Emily. He no longer had a right to love Leah. He was no longer hers. This was his now and forever.

Emily pulled back smiling at him.

"I'll let you say goodbye and break up with Leah tonight when we get back. I'll sneak into your room and wait for you when you get home."-she smiled, kissed him once more and ran back to her family as they gathered their things.

Sam was bound and lost by the imprint but wanted to fight it. The council told him adamantly that no one can break an imprint and to not even try. He was giddy about Emily and furious over the loss of Leah.

"I'm getting a ride from an old friend. I'll meet you all at your house to say goodnight."-he mumbled without looking up, kissed Leah on the lips hard as possible hoping it would break the imprint. With his head hung Sam quickly moved to get out of there and head for wherever the woods were in that area.

Harry watched Sam's body shaking and knew he was angry and about to phase. Upon hearing Emily's laughter he looked at her, at Sam's retreating form then back at a giddy Emily and knew what just happened. It took everything in Harry not to slap the taste out of her mouth, but he knew he could do nothing and the power and decision solely lied with the imprint.

Harry sat downstairs waiting for Sam to get to the house. He knew he would show up. It was two hours later when he finally arrived dirty, defeated and his face stained with dry tears.

"She's upstairs."-Harry said quietly before giving Sam a hug. "You have to stop fighting it. It will do more harm than good. I'm so sorry."-he mumbled, and Sam started crying. Harry held onto Sam as he cried. Sam's entire life had been flipped upside down and there was nothing anyone could do to help him. And now his daughter would be caught in the cross fire.

Harry knew this was killing him and would kill his daughter who loved that boy more than he could ever know. He'd seen her when Sam was missing. They stepped back from each other and with slumped shoulders Sam walked up the steps to Leah's room. Normally Harry wouldn't allow Sam at the house this late or in Leah's room but what would be the point in that now?

Sam slid in bed behind Leah and wrapped his arms around her, savoring the last time he'd be able to hold her. After a while she rolled over and gasped when she saw him in her bed.

"What are you doing here? Mom and dad are going to kill you."-she whisper yelled. Sam pulled her to him and hugged her tightly.

"I came to say goodbye."-he whispered somberly with a tight throat. Leah tried to push him off but he wouldn't let her. He had to hold her as long as possible and he couldn't bear to look at her face as he broke her heart…and his own.

"Sam what are you saying? What's going on?"-Leah began to panic.

"I can't be with you anymore Leah. I have to say goodbye."-he croaked, still holding her.

"What did I do? Why are you breaking up with me?"-she cried. He pressed his face into her neck as his sobs overtook him.

"It's not you it's me. It really is me Leah. I wish I could tell you but it's me. I'm so sorry Lee Lee."-he cried.

"You don't love me anymore?"-she cried and Sam pulled back to look her in the eye.

"I love you more than you could imagine. I have always loved you and I always will. Please remember that."-he said sternly.

"Then why? Why are you breaking up with me?"-Leah hiccupped. Sam pulled her back in for a tight hug, mindful of his strength.

"Please don't hate me."-he whispered into her hair.

And with that Sam raced out of Leah's room, down the stairs and out the door. Leaving Leah behind.

"Sam! Sam come back!"-Leah cried as she ran downstairs after him. Harry grabbed when she got to the door.

"I'm sorry pumpkin."-he cried as he held her tightly while she tried in vain to get away before slumping into his chest sobbing. Sue hurried downstairs and Harry just shook his head and mouthed they broke up.

"I'm sorry Leah."-Sue said with teary eyes at her daughter's distress. She was glad they had finally broken up but it didn't mean she was happy her daughter was upset. Leah wrenched out of Harry's hold and ran to her room slamming the door.

In the distance a howl broke out and Harry said a prayer for Leah and Sam. He called Joshua to let him know Emily changed the imprint.

Sam could feel Emily as he got closer to his house. The imprint was tugging furiously. When he got into his room, she ran over to him, wrapping her arms around him.

"We can finally be together."-she smiled and he laughed darkly. She pulled away frowning.

"Finally? As if we've been kept apart?"-he asked incredulously, grabbing his chest when the imprint pinged at him getting smart with his imprint about them being together.

"We have been kept apart."-she said.

"By who my girlfriend or your cousin? Oh wait they're the same person."-he sassed.

"Yes! By Leah. I love Leah too and I don't want to hurt her. I'm not doing this to hurt her but I was chosen not Leah. The spirits put us together."-she said pointing between them. He took a step toward her. He noticed the angrier he got the less the imprint hurt. Oh, it was pinging, but it wasn't as painful.

"The imprints didn't always choose to be together. It's not mandatory!"-he exclaimed.

Joshua had called Billy after he got off the phone with Harry, worried about Sam's state of mind. This was new to everyone so no one quite knew what would happen or how to handle things. Sam was like a first child: you make all the mistakes with them but get it right with the rest. Billy, who lived up the road, came over to talk. They heard Sam's voice rising and so was his temper. Both men cautiously went upstairs towards Sam's room.

"I wasn't trying to change the imprint it just happened. They all eventually became a couple and got married. It's inevitable. All you'd be doing is wasting your time, Leah's time and my time if we waited to be together any longer. Face it we're meant to be together and there's nothing either of us can do about it. You can't break an imprint."-she said with a stern chin.

Sam felt those ripples peel up his spine and the room began to shake. His eyes changed from their usual brown to dark brown with a golden ring around them. The wolf was coming.

"Sam."-Emily said backing away. He felt the pain in his chest but he ignored it as one by one the cables felt like they were snapping.

He started growling. He no longer had any say in his life. His couldn't go back to college anymore. He couldn't up and travel if he wanted to, bound to La Push to protect it. He couldn't wear jackets anymore. He couldn't just be a human anymore. And now he couldn't choose who he married. He'd had enough of being a wolf and being told about fate and the spirits.

The imprint was straining under his emotions and Sam felt like he would explode. And he did. Just as Billy yanked the door open Sam phased. In one moment he accidentally sliced Billy's spine as he turned to run out the door and mauled Emily.

"Oh my God Emily!"-he screamed, phasing back immediately. She was covered in blood and grabbing her now mutilated face. He grabbed shards of his torn shirt to press against her wounds.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."-Sam cried over and over again.

"I called 911 hang in there Billy."-Sam heard his father say. He turned his head to see Billy bleeding profusely, covered in blood as he lay on his stomach screaming while grabbing at his back.

"Oh no Billy. I'm sorry."-Sam cried. He felt like he'd been saying that since he phased.

He went to go over to him but Emily cried out in pain so he knelt back down to her. He didn't know what to do. He couldn't even leave Emily to check on Billy thanks to the imprint.

"Sam get out. Go!."-Joshua shouted at him.

"But-"-Sam started.

"No. Get out you might phase again."-Joshua said with fear in his eyes. Sam knew he was right and so did the imprint. With one anguished look between Emily and Billy, he jumped out of his closed window, shattering glass everywhere and took off for the woods. His imprint allowed him to run so Emily would be safer away from him until he calmed down.

Jared was on patrol when Sam had phased and howled for the pack as he raced to Sam's. The pack carefully moved Emily and Billy into the yard by the tree line. When the paramedics asked what happened they told them it was a wolf attack. Since Sam was spotted all those months ago and became a legend himself, the EMTs immediately believed them and rushed them to the hospital. Technically they weren't lying.

All of La Push knew within the hour and Leah and her family raced to the hospital. Jacob, Sarah and Rachel were huddled in Billy's room with half of the reservation trying to squeeze in to see the chief or pray over him. The Clearwaters went in to say their quick respects first since Emily was just being wheeled to her room from recovery.

"He's paralyzed from the waist down."-Sarah told Sue. Jacob was in the corner looking out the window with his fist balled. Seth went over to him.

"Jake I'm sorry man."-he said quietly. What could he say? What can anyone say in a situation like this? Jacob took deep, angry breaths.

"I'm going to find that wolf and skin it alive."-he growled. Literally growled. Seth jumped. He didn't even turn from the window just kept his eyes glued, looking in the distance to the trees. Seth slowly backed away sensing danger.

Although Billy was heavily medicated he saw and heard the exchange between his son and Seth. He drowsily looked over at Harry with worried eyes. Harry looked back at him with the same eyes.

Jacob was next.

Emily's family had gone back to Makah after the renewal and were still rushing to La Push, so only the Uleys were in her room. When the Clearwaters finally made it to Emily's room there was Sam kissing Emily's bandaged face mumbling I'm sorry and I love you. Leah, Seth and Sue gasped. Sam's head snapped up and his eyes widened when he saw Leah standing there.

"Leah it's not what you think."-was all he could think to say as he rushed towards her. She backed away.

"So this is why you broke up with me?"-Leah heaved.

"No it's not li-"-Sam tried.

"I should've known. I should've known."-she cried to herself. Sam went to grab her but she hit him, breaking her hand. She cried out in pain, cradling her hand to her chest. The Clearwater's rushed over to her and Jacob ran in having heard from up the long hall and around the corner. Harry looked at him wearily.

"I hate you. I hate you both so much. I hope you die from the wolf attack and I hope it comes and gets you next. I hate you Sam."-she sobbed as Harry and Jacob escorted her to a nearby doctor. Seth and Sue were torn between going with Leah, chewing Sam out or checking on Emily.

Sam wanted to scream, phase, shout anything to make this nightmare end. He wanted to run after Leah to make sure she was ok but the imprint wouldn't let him. He paralyzed Billy, mutilated Emily and broke Leah's hand and her heart all in one night. He gave up and completely gave in. All he could do was fall to his knees as his parents rushed over to him. His father with his head hung. The council was right. You can't fight fate. You can't fight an imprint. You can't break an imprint so don't even try. And this was all thanks to the Cullens.

So many times Sam had tried to show Leah what he went through, how he really felt but she wouldn't see it. She'd refused. He couldn't blame her not even he wanted to see it and he was now happy with Emily for about a little over a year now. At least that's what the imprint tells him. He was still hopelessly in love Leah when Emily wasn't around or in danger. No, when your imprint is there or just near you or she's in trouble there is nothing that will stand in a wolf's way to be with her or get to her. Nothing will make him compromise. You can't break an imprint. But when she's not there or not in danger you feel everything as if you never even imprinted. Imprinting wasn't fair.

Leah's form was finally out of view when Sam heard arguing and recognized Paul and Jared's voices.

"Uh oh."-he said to himself before getting up to run and see what was going on.

Before he even left his yard he slid to a stop when he saw a heaving and furious, and naked, Jacob beating a war path straight for him. Paul and Jared were trying to push him back and calm him down but nothing was working. Jacob's pack was rushing to catch up and Collin and Brady were terrified of the alpha wolf who looked fit to kill. Sam swallowed finding himself worried and quite frankly a little scared. He met Jacob at the back of the yard.

What now?

AN: Hope you like! Just an FYI minus the Jacob part in this chapter, the story ended after Sam had his flashback and had hope for he and Leah becoming friends in the future. Out of nowhere an idea popped into my head and this story went in a whole different direction. It's only one chapter left I think. Another FYI: if my story isn't in anyone's point of view it's probably a short story. That seems to be the theme when I read some of my other stories and looking at this one. *shrugs* I don't know why I just do *shrugs again*. Thanks for all the faves, reviews follows, and likes they are much loved.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…so I need you to read then I need you to review…or I'll push your kitty out a window. I kid I kid. I had a horrible dream that I was in an apartment and for some reason there was no fourth wall but there was a big cloak over it. My fur nephew, sister's cat, was walking around wanting to play but we started shooing him away and tried to grab him so he wouldn't fall but he galloped away playfully and walked right over the edged under the tarmac thing. My fur nephew fell to his death! I woke up crying and I can't tell you how happy I was when I realized I was dreaming. I squeezed him in a tight hug when I saw him and I've been smothering him with kisses since. It was like three days ago and I'm still upset
