Lily's POV
I was sitting with Gaius as he taught me how to make a healing potion when Merlin looking battered and bruised walked through door.
"So how was your first day as Arthur's servant?" I ask jokingly. He looked at me and hit his head.
"Can you hear clanging?" He says shuffling across the room. I stand and let him sit down. "Well, I best be off, I will see you later, Merlin, Gaius" I say walking out of his chambers.
I walked out with Morgana and Gwen and sat on the left hand side of my father's chair. "We've got some good knights this year and I hear the winner will be your future husband" Morgana says to me as we take our seats. I nod with a grim expression and begin fiddling with the material of my dress. Morgana notices this and grabs my hands, "Don't worry, as much as I hate saying this, Arthur is a great fighter and won't allow you to be married off" I nod and sit up a bit straighter as father walked out.
"Knights of the realm, it's a great honour to welcome you to a tournament at Camelot. Over the next three days, you will come to put your bravery to the test, your skills as warriors, and of course, to challenge the reigning champion, my son, Prince Arthur." He paused for a minute as the crowds cheered, I clapped and smiled at Arthur. "Only one can have the honour of being crowned champion, and he will receive a prize of 1,000 gold pieces. Also, the winner will have the honour of taking my daughter's hand in marriage, may our kingdoms be forever united" he looked around and gave a warning glare at both me and my brother, his way of saying that we shouldn't argue. "It is in combat that we learn a knight's true nature, whether he is indeed a warrior or a coward. The tournament begins!" Father announced and sat down next to me but not before whispering something to Arthur.
Arthur walks into the arena and faced his opponent, they went at each other and their swords collided with a crash. The tournament has officially begun.
Throughout the day, Arthur managed to beat a lot of knights, working his way up but another knight caught my father's attention. He was dressed in yellow robes with a crest of three snakes intertwining, he was really good and I would meet him later on tonight.
"Knight Valiant of the Western Isles, My Lord." Says the knight in yellow as he walks up to father. We were in the throne room and all the knights were lined up waiting to meet the king and me, their possible future bride.
"I saw you fighting today. You have a very aggressive style." Says father
"Well, as My Lord said, "To lose is to be disgraced." He replies as though trying to impress my father.
"I couldn't agree more. Knight Valiant, may I present the Princess Lillian, my daughter and the Lady Morgana, my ward" he says placing his hand on my lower back and pushing me forward slightly.
"Princess" he bows slightly and presses a kiss to my hand. "I saw you competing today" I say taking my hand back, fighting back the urge to wipe my wand on my dress, it didn't feel right.
"I saw you watching. I understand the tournament champion has the honour of escorting my lady to the feast"
I nod and Morgana cuts in "That is correct"
"Then I will give everything to win the tournament" he kisses me on my hand again and nods to Morgana then walks over to the other knights. As Morgana looks away I rub my wand furiously on my dress and greet Arthur as he walks up to me. "Why are you making your hand red, Lily?" He says, grabbing my hand. "Oh Knight Valiant is rather disgusting and a creep, try and win, I don't want to be with him for the rest of my life." He smiles and pulls me into a hug. "Then I shall win just for you" he then goes and talks to Morgana and I greet more knights for the rest of the evening.
I sit at my table with a sketchbook when Christine walks in with my freshly washed nightgown. I take it off her and go behind the screen. "My lady this is an unusual sketch" I lean around the screen and see Christine holding my sketchbook. "Yes, I keep having dreams about that sword, there is a lake and an arm rises out of the lake and presents it to a figure that I'm unable to see." I sigh, walk out and begin to unpin my hair before Christine takes over. "What do you think it means?"
"Honestly, Christine I don't know" I stood up after she had finished with my hair and laid down in my bed. "Goodnight Christine, I will you see you in the morning"
I quickly got changed into my nightgown and made my way down to Arthur's room to congratulate him. The day had been full of men beating the seven bells out of each other and in the end Knight Valiant and Arthur were fighting in the final. There was something odd though it was Knight Ewan he seemed to have been poisoned according to Gaius but as far as I know there were no lethal snakes anywhere near Camelot walls, let alone the arena.
I never got to his chambers though. Halfway down the hall I noticed a poison green snake slither across the floor, I followed it as I had never seen such a snake in Camelot. I almost got to it when I was whacked across the back of the head, I fell and my cheek met the cold stone floor, I glimpsed at a yellow cloak before I was consumed by darkness.
I awoke shivering badly, all I could see was darkness so I concluded I was in some sort of tunnel. I shakily got my feet and made my way to the right, feeling my way along the wall until I reached a deep cave that only let a little light in. I squinted and realised I'd been here before but in a dream or at least I think it was a dream. I whip around when I heard a clank of mental above me.
"Who's there?" I shout into the darkness. I stumble back onto the rock floor as a dragon appears from nowhere and perches on a large rock in front of me. "I wondered when I would you see here, young telepath" he says, I recognise his voice from that of the voice calling Merlin from below the castle. "Your the great dragon?" I say, still shocked as I slowly get up and walk forward. "I'm sorry you have to be locked up down here" I look down, now getting over my shock and only feeling guilt.
"Do not worry, telepath, in due time I will be freed but for now you must listen." I nod and he continued. "Arthur Pendragon is destined to become the once and future of King who will unite the lands of Albion, the destiny of the kingdom resides in his most loyal friend and subject." I tilt my head in confusion "what about me?"
"You will help them make the right decisions and guide them down the correct path. Without your help, they will fail; without you there will be no Albion." He says very seriously, I nod but then frown. "May I know who this loyal subject is?"
He stretches his wings and gets ready to fly when he leaves with some lasting words. "Trust in yourself, young telepath, or we will all be doomed.
After those cryptic words, I followed the wall all the way back up to the surface. I realised I was still in my nightgown so I nicked a spare Knight's cloak and ran to the arena. I skidded to a halt and saw Knight Valiant on the floor with Arthur standing over him. I cheer and Arthur turns around catching my eye, he grins but doesn't come over cause of my inappropriate dress, I smile then run back up to the castle to get changed for the feast.
I slam the door then slide down onto the floor, the dragon's words only now sinking in. I was a telepath and I had to help my brother and this extremely loyal subject not mess up. I sigh and run my hand through my hair, what am I going to do?
Is everything alright Lily
I jump at the sound of Elissa in my head, I smile and stand up. Yes Elissa, I think everything will turn out fine in the end.
