Making an Attempt
A/N: Classes ended, I got tired and submitted my final early. So, more updates until Christmas because I will be hosting a d&d session with my family and opening gifts.
Sandy shifted in bed, blushing as she looked down at what she wore. Ugh, maybe this was a bad idea after all. There's no way Shadow would—the door opened, making Sandy lose her train of thought.
"How'd shopping go with your cousin?" Shadow asked, wiping away stray droplets of water on his face.
"Went well, I think," she said, pulling the cover over herself. "For the most part."
Shadow got into bed, kissing Sandy briefly. "What do you," he paused, swallowing as he looked at what she wore. He pressed a shaking hand to her thigh, fully grabbing it. "You. . .wore this for me?" he asked, earning a nod in response.
Sandy's blush deepened as she looked away from him for a moment. She looked back as Shadow took in a breath and let it out.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked, sitting up fully and taking his hand away.
Sandy blinked before looking down and covering her chest with her arms. She shrugged after a moment, looking at him with teary eyes. "I jus'," she breathed, shifting as Shadow put an arm around her.
"Hey, we don't have to do anything if you don't want to," he assured her, voice low. "I know it's been tough because of—"
"I jus' wish it didn't ruin everythin', y'know?" she asked. "I thought. . .after all these years I'd finally be over it but, I want this. I want this with you," she said, grabbing his hand.
"I know," Shadow said, kissing her palm. "But we agreed we'd wait until you were comfortable, and you clearly aren't."
Sandy nodded, wondering if she should just let this happen in it's own time instead of rushing. Maybe she—
Are you going to let this like last time?
You know better.
Sandy blinked at her train of thought, taking her hand away from her fiancé and getting out of bed and grabbing a robe. "I, uh, I'm gonna go get some water." She said at Shadow's look of confusion.
He nodded, getting underneath the cover and turning the light out as Sandy left. Some part of her felt bad, but he said it was okay to wait.
Wasn't like he meant it. I saw how he looked at me.
With hunger, some kind of primal look that made her insides warm in either anticipation or fear, she wasn't sure.
"Sandy?"
Sandy turned at the voice, her glass of water cupped between two hands. It was just SpongeBob.
"Is something wrong?" he continued, sitting at the kitchen table as Sandy sat down as well.
"No, I mean, yes, but. . .you wouldn't understand."
"Try me." The sponge boasted, giving one of his ever-present smiles.
Sandy smiled back at him, taking a sip of water and shaking her head. "I'll be fine, lil square dude. I jus' need to quit bein' so stuffy."
"Stuffy? Sandy, you're the least stuffy person I know. That title goes to Squidward."
She chuckled at his joke, feeling a bit lighter as she finished her glass. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if her and Shadow took their physical relationship a bit further.
