"What's this?" Nenji asked, looking at the paper in the hallway next to the cafeteria.
"Don't laugh and we pay you based on your lack of reaction for each video you see. Get to the end and you win a prize of your choice; all visitors welcome." Nanaka read, adjusting her glasses.
Hmm, maybe I'll see what it's about just to see her laughing face. Nenji thought, grinning.
"I'll go; just to see what the hype is all about, though I tell you it's utter nonsense." Nanaka supposed.
"I'll join you, if you don't mind my company." Nenji said.
"I could use a bodyguard in case something happens." Nanaka said.
"Yes, ma'am; understood." Nenji replied.
"Good, shall we get going then?"
"Yes, after you."
They went inside the cafeteria for the challenge and a few giggles were heard, then some groans of embarrassment. Nanaka and Nenji sat down at an empty booth waiting for the videos. Fart noises were heard in the first video. Nanaka had a disgusted look on her face while Nenji could barely hold his laugh back until the second video played. Burping was next and Nanaka wouldn't budge or smile even a little; meanwhile Nenji took some deep breaths to combat the noises.
"You're doing good considering the circumstances, well done." Nanaka noted.
"N-no problem, this is nothing." Nenji uttered.
There's only one more video to go. Hang in there, Nenji. Nanaka thought.
I can do this! Nenji thought.
The third video they saw was a laughing baby and the last two seconds was a snippet of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.
Okay, now please be over! Nenji thought.
Nanaka was surprised; Nenji not laughing for three videos.
"All right, you guys win a prize of your choosing for making it to the end. Congratulations!" One of their classmates said. Both Nanaka and Nenji received 3,000 Yen each.
Nenji breathed a sigh of relief. "Whew, that was rough; eh, Nanaka? Nanaka?" Nenji was worried about his friend.
The girl was shaking and then keeled over in laughter, holding her stomach.
"I knew you'd laugh sometime." Nenji teased.
"Your face was so funny!" Nanaka laughed until she could laugh no more.
"Okay, okay; it wasn't that funny. I could barely keep it together the whole time just to get you this." He held out a black gift bag with a question mark on it.
"Don't worry, there's nothing weird in there, I double checked." Nenji said, blushing.
"Thank you, Nenji. This is yours." She gave the bag in her left hand to him.
"Thank you, Nanaka." He politely said. "Anyway, I had fun. See you later!"
They both went their separate ways home, happy for the events that they shared together.
The End
