Whispers

As she stretched out on the plush lounge chair in her room her thoughts once again strayed to him. He was spiraling away from her again. Unable to overcome the walls he had built between himself and the world he was reaching out to the only comfort he knew. And it wasn't her.

She had thought she was reaching him. They talked, they laughed...they kissed.

Yes they kissed, gentle at first then the kiss became deeper until they were lost in each other. She still remembered the way his lips moved against hers and she closed her eyes at the memory.

Then abruptly he broke the kiss, stood to his feet breathing deeply and without meeting her eyes said he had to leave. Then he was gone.

"Oh John..." she said on a sigh.

Johns hand with the tumbler of whisky in it stopped halfway to his lips. He could have sworn he heard someone whisper his name softly in his ear. He could have sworn he heard her whisper his name. Of course that was impossible she was nowhere near him. He hadn't spoken to Joss in over a week. Not since he left her so abruptly. He placed the glass on the bar in front of him as his mind was flooded with memories of that night.

It wasn't just the kiss, which he recalled in vivid detail how unbelievably soft her lips were and how sweet she tasted. It was how much he had enjoyed just being with her, talking and laughing. He hadn't done that in such a long time. Then he had run. Like a scared child, he ran and most likely missed out on the chance of a lifetime. He had thought about calling her but again he was afraid she would reject him.

But...what about the whisper he just heard. He knew he wasn't imagining it. And he certainly wasn't drunk he hadn't even finished his first drink.

Frowning slightly he dug in his pocket for his phone. He stared at it for a moment.

Was there a chance?

Scrolling down his contacts he reached Joss's name.

His thumb held over her number, he took a deep breath...
