Oliver's POV
Ra's sat behind him stitching his shoulder where the bullet graze him. It surprised the omega when the alpha insisted on stitching his injury. There wasnt much pain from it now and he could barely feel the tugging at the skin.
The return only took half an hour to return to the safe house. They took back and less traveled roads. They had to be more paranoid than usual. If they weren't there could be a second attack.
Ra's rumbled drawing the younger's attention, "You were reckless this afternoon. It hasn't been that long since you joined us. Yet you risked your life to save mine."
Oliver replied with a small smile, "I did what has to be done. Out of everyone initiates and full members, you are the most important. There were only a handful that care what would happen to me. There are hundreds that would care if you were killed. The entire League would be in an uproar."
"Mr. Queen..."
"Don't get me wrong," he interrupted, "I don't plan on dying anytime soon and if I did there would be several who would try to stop me. However, if I can keep you alive then I will. For as long as I am here I will do everything in my power to protect you."
Oliver turned to look the man in the eyes. There was a surprise in the grey eyes that searched his. His own grey-blue eyes held steadfast onto the other's.
Ra's sighed as he began to bandaging Oliver's shoulder, "It shouldn't be a surprise to me. You have a strong sense of loyalty that is rare. You don't give that loyalty lightly instead you carefully choose. Though you should talk to that doctor of yours. It will keep your mind from splitting any further than it already has."
Oliver rubbed his eyes with his good arm as he said, "Trusting doctors isn't really my specialty. I don't even trust you very much. It will take time and psychiatrists are low on my list of people to trust. I speak to him because I have to. Out of all the doctors, he was the only one who didn't write me off immediately. But this is as far as that goodwill goes. He has to earn the rest just like everyone else."
The alpha shook his head but didnt say anything else. There was the briefest flash of something in his grey eyes. If Oliver didnt know any better he would have said it was fondness. There was no way that Ra's could be feeling fondness for him. Right?
Al Owal was watching him from a corner as he stood. One of the assassins brought him a new clean shirt. It was black short-sleeved and he easily put it on. There wound didnt ache and he would be back to training tomorrow. Hazel eyes followed him as he walked towards the corner.
The alpha questioned as Oliver leaned against the wall next to him, "How's your shoulder?"
Shrugging he replied honestly, "Can barely feel it. It's not the first time I've been shot. I highly doubt it will be the last."
"Optimist much?"
The two shared a small smile at that. Things were changing between him and the League. Trust was building particularly between him and Al Owal. Even though the two would never admit it.
Eden had made jokes that they would make a good mated pair. While neither of them were particularly against the thought it was against the code. League code stated that as long as they were initiate and mentor they couldn't court.
Oliver currently wasnt interested in being courted. He would rather get his six months with the League over with. Things would be happening back in Starling and he did not want to be out of the loop.
The trip back to Nanda Parbat was quick. Many of the members no longer treated him like an outsider. There was respect in their eyes when they looked at him.
When he was checked over by a healer he was given the all-clear to keep training. The stitches wouldn't interfere with his training. Not that he would have listened if they told him to take it easy. He was here to control the madness within his mind. Not sit out and wait for things to happen.
It was three days after their return that he had a meeting with Panov. He met with him in the man's room. The room was in the healing hall away from the training rooms. Walking there allowed members to cool off before seeing a healer.
The room held several chairs in all different positions. Oliver chose the back corner to sit in. Panov followed him with his own chair.
Panov asked once they had settled into their chairs, "How have you been healing? From what I've seen the wound doesn't affect your training."
Oliver replied, "It's healing just fine doctor. Training is going as well as can be expected."
Panov smiled gently as he said, "Good. Ra's Al Ghul seems to be more interested in your training than normal."
The younger omega sighed. He had noticed the man's attention. Always watching him during the trainings. Group and one on one trainings the alpha was always there.
Oliver asked curious to see what the doctor thought, "What do you think he wants? He's been acting strange since the exercise."
Panov laid his cheek on an open palm considering him. Thinking through his next words.
Then he pointed out, "Ra's Al Ghul has been interested in you since you arrived. I'm positive it started because of your past within Medusa. Curiosity about the man that had run the most dangerous team. In a short time, you were able to prove why you had that title. Pushing him out of the way of a bullet made that curiosity swell. I think he's trying to decide if he wants to court you."
Court him? That wasnt something he was interested in. Oliver had never been interested in having a mate. With his mind as broken as it was there was too much of a danger. Even members of the League would have a hard time keeping Delta in control.
Oliver shook his head as he denied, "No. He doesn't want a mate any more than I do. Even if he did it would be too dangerous. Delta is too dangerous to let near people like that."
"Shouldn't you let him decide that? There is nothing wrong with getting close to someone Oliver."
That's where Panov was wrong. Getting close to someone could only bring pain. It was better to keep everyone at arms distance rather than allow them close. Oliver would not make the same mistake as before.
